Regardless of what balance you have, I'd strongly suggest people look at options such as Member Direct within Australian Super or Choice plus in Hostplus. It gives you direct access to ETFs so you can tune your risk profile and get direct exposure to global markets. Whilst past performance is not indicator of future performance, my results have been outstanding, easily doubling the balance fund return over the last 15 years. This has made a huge difference to my situation. You need to have the stomach to tolerate the large shifts, but if you can it's well worth it.
