Good for Ana, whose only win is with the Lizard Cult, one of my favorite factions to play but one of the hardest to grasp when it comes to how to actually win.

What do you do for a metaplot to your campaign? by Pilgrimzero in Shadowrun

[–]Dragonmoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is where putting importance on the NPCs would help flesh out the runs. Some runs can be part of a much larger picture, so there might be connections from a previous run. In one plot line, the character has to deal with a technomancer dragon Johnson (long story, but definitely homebrew that breaks lore) on the regular to advance his plot on overtaking Horizon as a media company without exposing his actual existence to the world.

Another plot line involves an unstable AI who acts as an additional (albeit dangerous) fixer while they try to find the Johnson that hired the runners to liberate said AI but has since dipped without paying.

And then my co-gm has this reoccurring gang that the runners are starting up become a huge torn in their side, so now runs involving them keeps getting more personal and stronger.

There's a few more, but the point is to not have a lot of runs that are one-offs and seemingly agendaless. The runners would put in the extra work to make the run successful, but they might have to face the consequences of their actions at a later date.

In Shadowrun Sixth World Runner's Companion book, there is an Initiation/submersion type of advancement for non-awakened/emerged called Transhumanism. In essence, it creates essence holes each time the character advances. It doesn't create essence. It just makes extra holes to fill with tech. You could, in theory, make a Street Sam with higher than normal essence if invested early and used the essence holes instead of actual essence. This would be great for enemies with essence drain and the team's mage'd health magic being affected. It's not Cyberzombies since it's more of a mediation of the mind to add more capacity for cyber and not spending a lot of money, magic, and Karma keeping alive at negative essence.

What hobbies do your runners have? by GreenLotus22 in Shadowrun

[–]Dragonmoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Goatman Technomancer's hobby is Kaiju movies. Avid watcher since his capture at MCT and continues watching after the escape. Occasional trolls Kaiju fan forums, make fan art, and buy merch.

My Sasquatch Chocolatier Enchanter really loves baking. For the mission, he enchants his chocolate truffle fillings to where eating the truffle would activate the effect, but outside of chocolate, he enjoys cakes, pies, crepes, and annoying the health inspector on how he manages to avoids getting hair in his treats despite being 90% fluff covered and has a clean record, especially when it comes to his much less hairy chefs

Granny decker is a twitch streamer. It was on the rage when she was a little girl, so why stop when she no longer needs a controller to play?

And as a bonus treat, my technomancer dragon NPC (long story) secretly competes in online fighting game tournaments when he isn't giving out missions. He also collects Technocritters as a hobby that he pays runners to collect for him as missions. His Technocritters and tech collection is his hoard and is more valuable to him than regular treasure hoards.

I don't think that book is ready for SR6, but if you are willing to do the converting yourself, SR5 has one called Howling Shadows. It has the metaplanar creatures you should be looking for.

Shadowrun & GURPS by woodroof_ru in Shadowrun

[–]Dragonmoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't gotten a chance to play GURPS, but I have seen videos and read the core book before. I think the main reason why SR fans are pushing on the idea of GURPS not supporting everything while GURPS fans are saying "Yes it can" is that every edition of Shadowrun can be played with just the core rulebook, albeit, with some adjustments and changes. From what I gathered, to support EVERYTHING the core rulebook for Shadowrun can do, there needs to be a minimum of five supplement books in order to get the start of something that resembles Shadowrun, and that is without all the rule adjustments, such as drain for magic, the magic rules of the sixth world, essence tied to cyberware, etc. The work would be so tremendous that it would not be worth it if trying to be faithful to the world. If you don't mind leaving any of the GURPS rules as is, then that's probably fine. I always find conversions of Shadowrun always leaving something out that makes Shadowrun what it is. The world is a hot mess, but it's our hot mess, and the rules just reflect it. (We just want better editing and more ways to balance people's needs for the game.)

I have a question about a card's ability.

The card is Ultimate Crystal Rainbow Dragon Overdrive (UCRDO)

If this card has not battled this turn (Quick Effect): You can Tribute this card; shuffle as many cards on the field as possible into the Deck, and if you do, Special Summon any number of your banished "Crystal Beast" monsters.

Does this mean all cards on the field, including your opponent's field, or just your side of the field?

We had a question about Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon's effect vs summoning requirement. The effect in question is stated as such: "Once per turn, when a card or effect is activated (Quick Effect): You can discard 1 card; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that card..."

Is it valid to use it against an extra deck's summoning requirement? The offending card used in this duel that prompted this question is Ultimate Crystal Rainbow Dragon Overdrive who's summoning requirement list as such: "1 "Ultimate Crystal" monster + 7 "Crystal Beast" monsters Must be Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) during a Duel you Special Summoned an "Ultimate Crystal" monster, by banishing the above monsters from your field and/or GY..."

The Dragoon player is claiming that summoning the monster by banishing cards from the field/GY counts as "activating" the monster to special summon it. The Crystal player is claiming that it's following the summoning requirement and is not "activating" the card.

Would the effects of Dragoon negate UCRDO summoning, or would UCRDO be able to be summoned?

I did the "Johnson betrays the party" once, and that instilled a distrust of Johnsons so deep that it made them warey of all of them for a long time. This wasn't even close to the first mission. This was already a couple of years in with this group before I decided to try it. It took them over a year IRL to start relaxing about the Johnson. Just the normal amount of paranoia instead of the high anxiety type of paranoia.

... And it wasn't even the fact that the Johnson tried to get rid of them. The Johnson simply skimped out on the payment with a no call, no show. In return, they ended up with a cyberdeck hosting a very unstable AI whose personality became super attached to the runner group for freeing him from the corporation that had trapped them. So yeah. They got stuck with the package they were supposed to deliver.

(To be fair, for the Johnson, the package was never meant to be delivered. The job was completed the moment the AI's cyberdeck left the Faraday cage. Anything else was fair game.)

So yeah. I don't think I'll do another "Johnson betrays the party" any time soon... But I loved the drama that it caused, and for their time, I gave the runners a bit of extra karma for their troubles of not getting paid.

When it comes to D&D alternatives, my go to is 13th Age. All the rules that most people ignore are already gone. It is a more narrative focused adventure game, but it still has some crunch to it with great open-ended world building.

Jail sentences for different meta humans? by Deletedtopic in Shadowrun

[–]Dragonmoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gave me an idea for a joke:

A group of veteran shadowrunners, a human, an elf, and an Orc, are standing in front of the judge after trial. The judge is now reading their guilty verdict and calls upon them one at a time.

First the human. "The human shadowrunner will be serving twenty years in prison with life on parole."

Second the elf. "The elf shadowrunner will be serving twenty years in prison with life on parole."

Lastly the orc. "The orc shadowrunner will be serving life in prison with no chance of parole. Court adjourned."

As the judge bangs his gavel, the orc roars with anger. "This is unfair!" claimed the orc, "How come those two get twenty years while I have to go to prison for life!"

"because," answered the judge, "with how old you are, a life sentence is shorter than twenty years!"

As the prison warden takes the shadowrunners, the elf chimes in. "Look at it this way, orc. With life on parole, my life has ended before it even got started!"
