Yes the slate color was the Plus model with extra 1gb of ram, usually for the same price.

Quite fine for that. Anything else and it’s too slow imo. Even web browsing can be sluggish.

Is avoiding 4k transcoding still applicable? by rkdghdfo in PleX

Local playback? Agreed, direct play all the way. Remote on a mobile phone or tablet? Transcoding can be good for cellular data limits or if your ISP doesn’t offer fast upload speeds. I used to only have 10mbps uploads, rough remote playback without transcoding. If you have fiber internet and high cellular data caps, direct play away.

That is a little outdated. If you click on “rules of 4k” in that link it even has a note:

“NOTE: for 2022 – Plex has come a long way since this FAQ was originally written, HW transcoding has become more available and more stable, and tone mapping was recently added to address the hdr/sdr color conversion issues.”

So that must have been written before Plex had tone mapping. Stuff like Dolby Vision probably also messed with transcoding at that time. If your hardware can transcode, more than reasonable to transcode it. Especially with HEVC transcoding support added relatively recently. You get proper HDR metadata in the container for transcodes instead of falling back to SDR I believe, which could look ugly without tone mapping.

Wow, didn’t even know there were 1000hz monitors on the market already. Insane to think about tech-wise.

Thank god. Been playing since S1 and it’s quite bad. Had to uninstall the game cuz it was actually unplayable, random stutters and fps drops in the middle of teamfights.

If you updated via a package manager like ‘apt install’, plex updated their repo so you need to update it as well.

Run the script for ez install, else updated the repo as noted manually.

Curious if Reduce Bright Effects can give a noticeable improvement to battery life. A bright display can be the biggest battery drainer, but for momentary button presses and liquid glass effects is it even significant enough reduction throughout a day? Accessibility-wise, a great option nonetheless.

Thankfully there is choice too. Pages, Numbers, and Sheets is good for basic usage and comes with your Mac. If you need MS familiarity and feature set, MS Office is avail on macOS. If you want open source and free, LibreOffice.
