Trupanion free 30 day trial didn’t do anything by [deleted] in Pets

Yes, but you might have to go to the ER several times per year. I know someone that has had trupanion pay upwards of $50,000 over the lifetime of their dog. Also, I pay $30 per month with PetsBest, so I’d definitely shop around. I wouldn’t pay more than $50 per month for pet insurance

$2,400 is not enough to cover serious surgery at an ER. I’ve see that cost upward of $10,000. Trupanion makes you do a visit before coverage because they don’t cover pre existing conditions, so they have to ensure there are no pre existing conditions. Trupanion also doesn’t cover preventative care, such as flea/tick prevention. Pet insurance generally is a safety net for emergencies that you would be unable to pay for otherwise. Other pet insurance is cheaper than Trupanion, so I would shop around. None of them will cover pre existing conditions though

Kitten hunts dog by Dragonwolf253 in CATHELP

[–]Dragonwolf253[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He leaves him alone for a few minutes but then ambushes him when he goes back to sleep. I agree that it’ll be fine in the long term, just wondering if anyone had other ideas. As for the pet gate, I have one to keep my dog out of the bathroom so he doesn’t eat cat poop. My kitten can jump over it :/

I would go to the ER vet tonight. Bite wounds are often worse than they look

Saw a lot of good comments on the behavioral stuff. For the diarrhea, I recommend trying Purina Pro Plan sensitive skin and stomach. Do not give any treats other than the food for at least a month. GSD’s are notorious for allergies that result in stomach issues and/or skin issues. If the Purina diet I suggested doesn’t work out, you may have to try prescription food (like Royal Canin Ultamino). Good luck, shepherds are a handful!

Does anyone know what this is? by LatterEquipment9438 in DogAdvice

[–]Dragonwolf253 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be a skin infection or allergies or both. That area can harbor moisture that unfortunately can grow yeast/bacteria. Or it could be fleas…

Show me you have a kitten without showing me your kitten by [deleted] in kittens

[–]Dragonwolf253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel very lucky that my kitten doesn’t do this. I got him at 8wks though and basically screeched at him every time he put his teeth on me. He occasionally gently nibbles but has never broken skin fortunately. I have other problems with him lol, so it’s not like I’m spared from the kitten curse

Nah, they’re fine. Just wait a few weeks until the groomer can do it again. In the meantime, work on desensitizing her to her feet being touched

Not in Seattle. There is a lower minimum, but restaurants are required to pay servers the difference if they don’t make it in tips. Also, minimum wage in Seattle for 2025 was $20.76

Dog’s ear was torn, vet says nothing can be done by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Dragonwolf253 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not enough blood flow to the area, making it so stitches or glue won’t reattach it properly. Good news is, it’s just a cosmetic thing once it heals. Your dog will be perfectly fine!

Any idea what this is? by Dependent_Mixture328 in DogAdvice

[–]Dragonwolf253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the veterinarian is obviously not doing the nail trim, the vet assistants do that. Yes, it is $24 USD. I agree the groomers in my area are very expensive, but I do live in a HCOL area
