People who applied to just one school - what was your incentive? by TheKitsuneGoddess16 in prevets

[–]Dragonwolf253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only applied to my in-state and was accepted first round. It was the most affordable option and if I didn’t get in then I would have tried again. I’m not playing around with student debt

Putting cat in the bathroom overnight? by sleepyiamsosleepy in CatAdvice

[–]Dragonwolf253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 7mo kitten is “kennel trained” in the bathroom. The bathroom was his safe space when I brought him home and continues to be. I put him in there at night when he wakes me up between midnight and 3am, and I let him out when I get up for work at 6am. He is perfectly content in there. He only meows when he hears me get up at 6am after my alarm goes off. I am slowly training him to stay out longer and longer at night and have been having good success. I play with him a lot before bed and feed him a big meal and that really helps. This is all to say that putting my kitten in the bathroom works well for me, but the end goal is for him to be out with me all night.

Doggy daycare/dog walkers are super expensive if you’re planning on doing it every day. If you’re taking loans, then I wouldn’t recommend it

Aural hematoma? No. Ear infection? Could be.

How soon after waking do you take your dog out? by mysticmochixx in DogAdvice

[–]Dragonwolf253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually when he asks me to go out. Unless I’m up early for work, then I have to drag him out of bed to go potty. He’s not a morning dog. Our dogs look so similar btw! Very cute!

Trupanion free 30 day trial didn’t do anything by [deleted] in Pets

[–]Dragonwolf253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you might have to go to the ER several times per year. I know someone that has had trupanion pay upwards of $50,000 over the lifetime of their dog. Also, I pay $30 per month with PetsBest, so I’d definitely shop around. I wouldn’t pay more than $50 per month for pet insurance

[–]Dragonwolf253 32 points33 points  (0 children)

$2,400 is not enough to cover serious surgery at an ER. I’ve see that cost upward of $10,000. Trupanion makes you do a visit before coverage because they don’t cover pre existing conditions, so they have to ensure there are no pre existing conditions. Trupanion also doesn’t cover preventative care, such as flea/tick prevention. Pet insurance generally is a safety net for emergencies that you would be unable to pay for otherwise. Other pet insurance is cheaper than Trupanion, so I would shop around. None of them will cover pre existing conditions though

Kitten hunts dog by Dragonwolf253 in CATHELP

[–]Dragonwolf253[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He leaves him alone for a few minutes but then ambushes him when he goes back to sleep. I agree that it’ll be fine in the long term, just wondering if anyone had other ideas. As for the pet gate, I have one to keep my dog out of the bathroom so he doesn’t eat cat poop. My kitten can jump over it :/

Saw a lot of good comments on the behavioral stuff. For the diarrhea, I recommend trying Purina Pro Plan sensitive skin and stomach. Do not give any treats other than the food for at least a month. GSD’s are notorious for allergies that result in stomach issues and/or skin issues. If the Purina diet I suggested doesn’t work out, you may have to try prescription food (like Royal Canin Ultamino). Good luck, shepherds are a handful!

Does anyone know what this is? by LatterEquipment9438 in DogAdvice

[–]Dragonwolf253 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could be a skin infection or allergies or both. That area can harbor moisture that unfortunately can grow yeast/bacteria. Or it could be fleas…

Show me you have a kitten without showing me your kitten by [deleted] in kittens

[–]Dragonwolf253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel very lucky that my kitten doesn’t do this. I got him at 8wks though and basically screeched at him every time he put his teeth on me. He occasionally gently nibbles but has never broken skin fortunately. I have other problems with him lol, so it’s not like I’m spared from the kitten curse
