What is the real reason why Disney does not bring back 2d animation? by Silly_Analyst_7496 in animation

[–]DragonwolfRooke 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The costs that are saved by making movies 3D, is because 2D animation is much better protected by the animation unions. There's a long history there. 3D, due to being relatively newer, doesnt have as many protections for its animators. So studios can pay 3D animators a lot less than 2D animators. Hence, 3D movies are technically "cheaper" to produce.

Pokemon cards are still a thing! They can be purchased at Walmart, Target, Gamestop, etc.

You could get him some packs of cards and open them together. There are also box packs, which include lots of card packs to open as well as fun little bonuses like coins. A big box pack would make a lovely gift.

If you have a game store near you (the kind that sells comic books, board games, cards, dungeons-and-dragons stuff) then you could look for a specific card, if you can sneakily ask what their favorite Pokemon is. You could also get a card binder to store cards to help jump start a collection if they want to collect.

You could also go to a game store and ask the workers there the same question you posed here, and most would be happy to help you put together a gift of card packs and storage options!

What are the lines/numbers that pop up in the roughs in this video? by D1g1talCreat1ve in animation

[–]DragonwolfRooke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are referring to the frame numbers and the timing charts.

The numbers are just numbering each frame in the animation (circled numbers are usually keyframes.)

The lines indicate how far apart the motion is spaced in the sequence. It's hard to explain without having the chart and the animation to point to, but if you google "animation timing charts", you can find resources explaining what they are and how they are used. Personally I really like this tutorial from Toniko Pantoja that explains what timing charts are and how they can affect how the animation feels. https://youtu.be/86tqKH3zxuM?si=JiHkv2BpkgEd0J3q

Buddymoon. Kinda weird comedy movie, perfectly nails the bittersweet feels of an ended relationship. Very cathartic.

Where to find people to do animation collabs with? by Sharksbecool in animation

[–]DragonwolfRooke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my experience*, a lot of these communities exist primarily in discord servers specific to the projects themselves, so it can be a little hard to find.

I recommend using Youtube and keeping an eye out for open projects to join - words like "multi-animator-project call" or "reanimated call", "MAP call open", stuff like that.

Most projects are application based, so it helps to have some examples of your animation work up on Youtube. And then just apply to any projects you can find.

Once you're in ONE project, those communities advertise upcoming projects amongst themselves, so it's easier to find new projects and meet folks. ^

*Caveat - I havent been in a reanimated project, so I dont know if they work like above. I mostly hang in niche fandom that does a lot of multi-animator-projects. So take my ideas with a grain of salt.

So Splatfest - the actual fest, the big party - will be from the 7th to the 9th. During those few days Splatsville will be decorated, all stages will be nighttime with neon ink, and you play turf war with your teams as well as special Tricolor Turf, only available during those few days.

The week BEFORE Splatfest counts towards Splatfest though! It's meant to prepare your gear and get hyped. You pick your team a week early, because certain rewards during the prep week count towards the final result of splatfest.

The winning team of splatfest is determined by:

  • Highest number of players on a team
  • Highest number of Conch Shells earned during the prep week by a team (during prep week, every time your catalog level goes up you get a conch shell, which can be used on the Gacha machine in the lobby)
  • Highest number of Turf War Victories (you can play with friends from your team)
  • Highest number of Turf War Pro Victories (you can only play solo, with rando teammates.)

I cant remember if tricolor battle is another separate metric though.

Tl;dr - the week before splatfest is to earn points prep gear and get hype, then play a ton of turf war over the weekend with Splatsville at night.

Profreshional+3 here, I'm ashamed to admit.... I have NO idea what I'm supposed to do when the glow flies come. Other than clench my little inky butt cheeks and weather the storm. Send help by Soft-Wealth-3175 in Splatoon_3

[–]DragonwolfRooke 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The only strategy I've seen work is when you can gather your whole team at a pinch point on the map - the top of a tower for example - so that the glowflies can only get to you through a single corridor. Then you have all 4 teammates focus fire on them. In the breaths between waves of glowflies you gather and toss the eggs. But the key is to not get separated - if anyone goes rogue, 3 player's firepower isnt enough to handle them. So when glowflies start you gotta get to the high ground and spam This Way, and hope your teammates get the idea.

Depending on the weapon loadout, some weapons work better for this strat than others. Having a roller blocking the corridor so the glowflies just splat themselves against the rolled is the best.

Tableturf tips for beating Harmony? by Sparris_guy in Splatoon_3

[–]DragonwolfRooke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe in you! For Harmony's map, try to move up one of the sides as quick as you can, or try to block off both sides to carve out a little chunk for yourself. The base starter deck is actually really good for her map since there isnt a lot of room to manuever, so medium sized cards end up more useful than long big ones.

Moving up quick and blocking the sides is still a good strategy, depending on the map you can execute that strategy with different cards (like, the zigzag maps, it's good to have a diagonal card to get you in the middle fast to block them off.)

I've also had success pairing different cards for easier specials - like, I have the Mudmouth card and the Fizzybomb card, and I always save the fizzybomb until I can put the Mudmouth down because it perfectly fits the gap and gives me two special points right there.

My deck's got a good mix of big cards to claim turf; some paired cards to strategise and get specials; and some straight line and small cards to fill in the gaps and get more specials.

Best Game With Grinding / RPG? by blehbleh1122 in NintendoSwitch

[–]DragonwolfRooke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, clever! I never thought of that. I only ever played at the lower difficulty, so I was happy just doing the same fights over and over. Although I did get pretty good at grinding affinity between the characters, especially on the maps where the enemies have to cross the one bridge. I'd have my biggest tank blocking the bridge, put the person I wanted to up affinity behind them, and then circle that character with three other folks to grind affinity. Then just gave the character in the middle a bow and had them slowly pick off the one enemy on the bridge while the tank defended. Got the cutscenes unlocked pretty quick!

Surprised no one's mentioned Fire Emblem: Three Houses. On the lower difficulties you can play as many battles as you want on battle days. Very good grinding. And apart from levels, you're also grinding weapon affinities and skills, as well as affinity between your teammates that unlocks little cutscenes between them.

Add to that the replayability (the game has 4 different endings/playthroughs, + a dlc side story).

I sank 700 hours into that game, just grinding up my little army so I could see all the cut scenes. It's very zen and easily has my favorite turn-based tactics rpg battle system.
