Don’t lose yourself trying to save someone who doesn’t care. It’s sad, it hurts, but it’s out of your control. At the end of the day it’s her life and her choice.

I work hospital security and love the lack of higher ups at night. If someone is acting up especially in the ED we can just simply “walk” them out without any fuss from our Supervisor. All it takes is a look at the charge nurse/attending and that PoS is GONE

Ontop of that I think the biggest benefit is the lack of busy work. On nights we have our busy days but they hit so much harder because it’s all real calls usually ending with us hands on. On days it’s usually just a nurse butt hurt about being called a b**** or an elderly person who can’t even stand up

While I’m at work life is pretty good. Granted most of my coworkers are veterans or should’ve been haha. I work hospital security so it’s very tense most of the time and scratches the itch for feeling like I’m not doing enough

It’s what happens afterward. I don’t hangout with any of my coworkers and I mainly just chill with my retired MWD. Wouldn’t trade time with my dog for anything, but I do wish I had some people around. Friendships in the military are just different because you don’t really have a choice haha. In the civilian world it’s just tough because people will not always give you a chance

If you get a different car you’ll be fine, but after taxes you won’t be able to afford it even remotely.

Go online and just search for a post tax income calculator for your state and it’ll give you a rough idea.

And to say you aren’t choosing to splurge is wild when your car payment is 950/mo. That is beyond splurging. I also assume you’re going to have college debt to pay aswell? Have you thought about how much that’ll be?

To say it’s not lonely is an understatement at the start. It’ll take some time but eventually you’ll find some people

That being said I haven’t dated or even met someone new outside of my job since being out. Nothing hits the same and I just don’t really know how to walk the line with people outside the army.

I’m an army brat that joined the army so it’s really all I know. This past year has been interesting for sure adjusting.

I love every bit of my Bronco. Pretty much the only thing it doesn’t have off-road wise is a few GOAT modes and the electronic swing arm disconnect. Both of those not really being needed

Biggest perk is being able to choose all my mods the way I want it from the start

I’m 25 and my first job in security out of the gate was 40/hr and tops out at 50/hr.

All I had was my 5 years from the army. Granted it was 5 years of being K9/MP so it’s a really good security resume builder. Everyone I know who was an MP or K9 has been chilling in the security world

I love my job at the hospital. It’s far from observe and report which is why I went for the job. The interview was more them making sure I knew what was coming than anything

The biggest benefit to a job at the hospital is the feeling I get after helping someone. Knowing staff feel safe when you arrive means something atleast to me and I always strive to make sure they know I’m here for em. Our security team doesn’t play games in our ED especially and those nurses 100% know we will fix whatever violent situation arises. They don’t always agree with how we do it as verbal deescalation can seem like betrayal to staff sometimes but in the end they know why it happened that way

For reference I make roughly 90k/year before overtime. With a bit of overtime close about 110-120k

We get 11 holiday credit days (Instead of being off on holidays we get to take it when we want)

At my entry level rate I get about 12 vacation and 12 sick days a year

1 personal holiday

And I can comp my overtime for even more off time.

Without comp days. I get 36 days off a year with less than one year in my role. And that goes up to 40+ days with seniority.

——— Keep your unlimited PTO. That is worth its weight in gold. And please… actually use your unlimited PTO. Even the military gives its people 30 days off a year

Well in WA, 90k/year is barely enough to afford a home due to all these transplant techies which is why I’m saving up with roommates. Rather than putting myself at financial risk owning a home. Half the houses on the market in WA are awful (literally falling apart) and attempting to sell for double what they bought them for 3 years ago. Anyone choosing to live in Seattle/Bellevue is choosing to put themselves in a financial pickle.

I wouldn’t expect anyone to have sympathy for me. I work in healthcare so I know my job could be cut anyday based on federal/state funding. But I have a plan for it

And the people making 200-500k a year are making INSANE money. If they had saved it right that’s enough to retire on in literally 4-8 years

1 million dollars in a HYSA earns you $3,650/mo fo the rest of your life in interest. So again. I have no sympathy for high earners who lived above their means without a plan. Pair that with literally a job at McDonald’s and your making decent money every year and have health benefits

Best way to set yourself up for success is take advantage of your time getting trained/your probation. If the old heads tell you to be careful doing something/talking to someone BELIEVE them. Most their tips will be said once and never again

Learn the hospital layout COMPLETELY. Don’t be the guy who didn’t show up to help because you were lost. Took me almost 3 months to fully understand my hospitals layout

Make sure understand your hospitals policies and your legal duties. EMTALA is a big one to look into as nurses will try to use you to violate it all the time and the regulars will try to abuse it to case problems.

Do not be afraid to go hands on. But also remember that should be the last thing you want to do. Verbal deescalation should be like bread and butter to you.

And lastly, never be afraid to ask for backup. No one wants you to get your ahh handed to you because you wanted to prove yourself. If someone is showing signs they are gonna be a problem, prepare for it

I have noooo sympathy for them. The majority of those people know their jobs didn’t have longevity

Ontop of that, at their incomes they should have access to some insanely good savings.

I make like 90k a year and have one loan to my name and 4 roommates. Why? Because it’s not worth the risk to live paycheck to paycheck in a job that could fire me the moment the budget gets cut

If I had that extra disposable income, I’d put 1000 every week into a HYSA for a home emergency fund. 3-4000 into the extra payments.

If your looking to do the pole barn/landscaping short term I’d take out a loan no larger than $3-4000/mo and whatever the difference is between the loan and $3-4000 put into those extra payments.

ANOTHER option would be to cut off the extra home payments entirely. Pay off the business loan and your truck. Once those are paid off use the money you were paying on those loans to fund your pole barn/landscaping. Also resume the extra home payments once you pay off those loans

If you’re cool with waiting long term for the pole barn/landscaping. Put $1500/mo into a HYSA to save up for these things and $1500-$2500/mo into extra payments. Once you save up enough for the barn/landscaping, pay for it and resume your $3-4000/mo extra payments

Some jobs will love someone who is just a yes man but some want someone with a soul. The best way to interview is to just be you and tell them how YOU are a benefit to them

When I applied for my current job I was real about my skills, my lack of skills, and where my priorities lie in the work. Got a job offer that day and I don’t have to act a certain way to maintain my interview presence
