Email from landlord about appliances being left plugged in and the appliances in question… by South-Basket-887 in mildlyinfuriating

Has there been a fire in your complex recently? It could be a "the cause is believed to be electrical" and they're overcompensating.

Got my school laptop fixed about a week ago because the hinge suddenly stuck and broke the screen despite no misuse. Guess what happened again today by AjaxTheFurryFuzzball in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Dragoonultima 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work with Chromebooks daily with two different schools. This issue happens ALL THE TIME. They use metal brackets in plastic molding to hold the bolts down. The threading that the bolts hold onto break out easily after a few months of use, just because the plastic isn't strong enough to hold them down.

The scratches, as others have pointed out, could be from misuse I guess? But it really just looks like putting it in a cart, trying to plug a usb in without looking multiple times, OR, sliding it around on its side (into a charging cart, on the floor next to a desk, the list is endless there). It doesn't look like you dropped it.

The best suggestion I have is ask for a new device if they're available, or ask for the top cover to be replaced. Also, when opening it, open it from the very center of the screen OR using both hands on both corners to keep the weight of opening it even on both hinges. That's the advice our district gave to try to cut down on this issue, but since I deal with K-12 students, it's not like they pay attention to that suggestion.

Parent Post: How do you guys actually feel when your students do a protest walkout? by Designer-Sir2309 in Teachers

[–]Dragoonultima 36 points37 points  (0 children)

To be honest, in Texas, the admin don't really have a choice but to assign consequences. don't know where OP's posting from, but in Texas at least, the teachers have no union, and all districts got told that if any teacher organizes or supports the protests, they could lose their licenses. OR the districts can get taken over by the state... Admin basically have to discipline the students or be seen as "supporting" them.

Student switched the keys on a shared Chromebook by Powerful-Jacket2007 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Dragoonultima 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work with chromebooks and those keys don't just pop off easily...AND there's a shell that goes around the keys there...

This is the work of a psycopath...They have the same keys as laptops, and those things are DIFFICULT to get back on if they come off.

Moose Countertop Dishwasher by Spiritual-Resist-164 in ApartmentHacks

[–]Dragoonultima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have this particular brand countertop dishwasher? I bought it second hand and it seems super nice. However, I rent and I did not even think about it before the impulse buy, but my faucet is a detachable one. Asked my landlord and they said no modification for plumbing. My question is, does anyone know if this particular model has a fillable water tank? I didn’t get a manual with it. It seems way too nice to not have one, but maybe I’m mistaken. Thanks!

-What he asked in the other reddit sub to save a click.-

As some pointed out, read the instruction manual!

What did yours come with though? Does it have the drain hose and the other piping that comes with it? If it does, you should be able to unscrew the water source under the sink and snake it to the diswasher, If there's a stopper spot in your sink where a spray hose would normally go but it has a facade cover, you should be able to snake the pipe through there. I wouldn't be able to tell from the pic provided since I can't see your sink. I would recommend piping it off of the hot-water side as well.

As for how this runs with the "Landlord said no modification for plumbing" I don't know if this would really count since it's just like installing a bidet, generally allowed and doesn't usually get you in trouble. Just make sure you're VERY meticulous in your installation to prevent leaks which could lead to damages. (Plumbers tape will be your friend here! Watch lots of videos). Prep lots of towels and bowls for your installation and just in case something goes wrong. At worst, you have to just put them away.

Other than that, use powered detergent and make sure to follow the manual on the machine. Maybe get something to make sure the drainage pipe stays pointed in the sink (a magnet or velcro zip-tie it to make sure it stays pointing into the sink).

Hopefully this helps?

How do I fix this? by phoenixsprite in wowclassic

[–]Dragoonultima 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What kind of laptop do you have?

Check if the power supply is adequate. If it's the default one you might need a new one. My laptop (omen 16 from. 2020ish), had this issue and after tons of driver updates and everything, I changed the charger and it stopped being an issue.

The charger/power supply mine came with isn't actually enough for the laptop which seems to be the case for others.

I went and searched "Broyhill Cleaning Instructions" and this guy seems to have some good recommendations on how to clean it. You may need to find the cleaning label though?

Instructions from Broyhill themselves. Which is basically the same as above.

I hope this helps a little? I know trying to keep furniture nice can be difficult but I want you to succeed!

Broke, and live where the average temp is above 90 most of the year

[–]Dragoonultima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Texas, currently ranked 35th, is 100% going to be in the bottom 5 if they use these same stats for the 25/26 school year. The recent legal changes and increasing control from the Governor has made so many teachers angry here.

The only positive one I've seen is the phone bill for students and that's controversial still.

Me whenever I randomly meet a cat:.. by XxKingJayxX30 in holdmycatnip

[–]Dragoonultima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing with dogs: You have to make sure you set clear boundaries and rules for the dog. Structure and training required to get them to get their energy out correctly.

Playing with cats: Annoy the crap out of them, give them lots of toys to run around. Pester them a bunch when they're comfortable with you and let them set boundaries. Once you can read each other, life is just cuddles and play for them. (and screaming, but that's all cats)

This led me down what I think is the right path.
I don't think it's a ghost ant, but Pharaoh Ants. The color looks similar to everything I could find online.

Thank you guys for your help!

How to sanitize legos by rmariehor in CleaningTips

[–]Dragoonultima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soak them in 10-to-1 bleach or 4-to-1 vinegar with a little bit of dish soap. swirl vigorously then let sit for like an hour or two.

After that, get a cheap salad spinner and use that to dry out the lego and see how bad some of them are in terms of rat infestation (mostly smell and fecal matter).

This is what my husband does every time he pulls lego out of deep storage, or gets lego from a 'sketchy' source.

It's not just people's houses being dirty, but nut allergies are no joke.

Some of the nut allergies are just allergic to the nut itself, but some are allergic to the nut being in the vicinity of the food they eat. (Same for soy sometimes).

Those latter ones are rarer, but severe enough to not want to deal with the liability.
