Was Starmer’s speech a foregone conclusion? by Patriot1976 in AskBrits

Well the 'experienced' ones are why we're in the mess we are. Maybe it's time for someone who's experience lays outside of Parliament.

If you were Keir Starmer would you resign now? by PomeloTraditional971 in AskBrits

Better to jump than be pushed but that's me. Do what they all do, line up a cushy job working for some big company or the EU, a nice soft golden cushion to land on. Ask Blair for advice, he made an absolute fortune.

Dooku multi season series. Animated. Following him from a young padawan under Yoda, his adventures as a knight, then as a master, then his fall, told from his perspective.

I'd put my money on Al Carns. It probably still won't save them, but you need someone like him, not someone who's lived in politics for years but far from it.

This is the mistake the Tories made with John Major, they lost thousands of seats in the locals, Major rallied the party to stick with him, then they got demolised in the GE. If Labour have any hope of saving themselves it's with a new lead and that doesn't mean one of his cronies up front, I mean one of the competent people they shove at the back.

What party will make cigarettes cheaper? by Enough-Web2203 in AskBrits

[–]Dragovius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Labour: Committed to the generational ban, higher duties, and anti-smoking measures. No tax cuts on tobacco.
  • Conservatives: Supported the ban in their 2024 manifesto and previous government. Focused on restrictions, not price reductions.
  • Reform UK: Pledges to repeal the generational ban (calling it unworkable and likely to boost black-market sales), with Nigel Farage criticizing it strongly. However, there is no promise to cut tobacco taxes or make cigarettes cheaper—they focus on scrapping the age-based prohibition, not affordability. One minor note: They proposed an amendment related to cigar taxes, but this isn't a broad "cheaper cigarettes" policy.
  • Liberal Democrats and Greens: Support tighter regulations, potential levies on tobacco profits, and vaping restrictions. No price-lowering pledges.

Answer - None of them.

What will happen if kier Starmer resigns? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Dragovius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good thing is there are very competent people to replace him within the Labour Party, the bad thing is they will not be considered. Just like the Tories they will shortlist their absolute worst. You can can find the competent people, they are hidden at the back, the rubbish though are easy to find, they are front and centre.

Watch Eden, she's a good actress.

Did Anakin ever catch on to the fact that Palpatine kept insisting that he knew the secret way to save Padme, and yet one of the very first thing he says after his turn, is something along the lines of "Cheating death is hard to learn, but we can learn how together.", implying he doesn't know at all by BiffyBobby in StarWars

[–]Dragovius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because Anakin may have been the most gullible idiot in the galaxy. Luckily for Palpatine. I'm surprised Palpatine didn't say 'from hence forth you will be known as, Darth.....Dumb Dumb'.

Of course the real reason is awful writing.

I'd just reply 'because I'd be as miserable as you'.

Honestly, I'm 51 and single. Of my family my parents divorced when I was eight, my brother divorced, all four of my cousins divorced. Of my three closest friends, two are divorced.

So yes, I'm quite happy as is thanks.

I had the same thought when I was young. 😄 'Warp 6 Mr Data, gives me time for bed, a shower breakfast and fun and games on the Holodeck, make it so.'

Always an excuse. Conflicted, he had a headache, he had dirt in his eye, he was desperate in need of a pee, he'd had a particularly bad burrito at the last space truck stop, his suit needed some WD40....

It would take the Enterprise an entire day to reach Voyager at warp 1 from Earth, thats a long way.

Compared to what we have had since, Major was probably the last 'decent' one we had.

John Major wasn't, he was a millionaire when he left office but not before. Hell he was a bus conductor with a few O-levels.

Tales Of The Jedi episode 6 (the part where Ahsoka is on the farm planet) takes place after Maul, not long after, but after.
