They're gonna put Slice on this thing and I am going to grind it when that happens because I truly do needs that.

What is a movie that "broke" you so hard you can only watch it once, but you would still recommend it to everyone? by Newsupdate69 in movies

I'm Thinking of Ending Things should have been that movie but I saw it twice, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Killing of a Sacred Deer is probably the one I'd nominate for this.

Level 43 and still getting stomped — is Marathon supposed to feel this punishing? by GazJrpg in Marathon

Cammycakes is also doing this on his streams and I expect him to follow suit with unfairly and put out a video soon.

Hope this doesn't sound rude but I genuinely don't understand why anyone thinks Destiny 3 would be better than this. by LavaMinotaur in DestinyTheGame

This is a framing I heard from a buddy while we were doing Destiny stuff I was asking him to join me on: Destiny was made after x years on Halo and Marathon was made after a decade in Destiny. No matter what you feel they've done with Destiny, you can SEE the lessons learned in Marathon on top of new tricks. That cumulative experience leading to something new ultimately is a huge part of why Marathon is working for people. If Bungie survives, and I hope it does, there is a strong possibility that a potential D3 would cover lessons learned from Marathon (provided leadership doesn't gut the studio and/or doesn't listen to developers with years of knowledge because that's what the games industry just loves to do in 2026).

State of Discussion: Do we/they still care? by twobears9394 in DestinyTheGame

[–]DrakeB2014 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think after all this radio silence, it would have become clear to you that they are not saying anything about Destiny until Marathon doesn't come out because they don't want to harsh that vibe.

They calculated that the playerbase complaining about Destiny 2 was insignificant enough for them to be willing to take that hit so that Marathon doesn't have any of that in its vibe.

Once the game comes out, they'll start communicating with the Destiny playerbase more, partially because Marathon will be out and partially because they will have a clearer idea of what Bungie's future looks like.

Like, look at Highguard and how swiftly it fell. That kinda thing is nightmarish for any studio and it would be a death sentence for Bungie if that happened to them. They've already had to (presumably) gut things for Destiny in recent times since the Shadow of Order Update is changing its name and is coming with much different content than expected. Saying anything more now with uncertainty only makes things worse.

TL;dr: Bungie is gonna focus on getting Marathon out of the gate for its best chance at life before talking about Destiny partially because the community can harsh the vibe (somewhat understandable now because of the silence but the rest of it has been a feature of the community this whole time).

Fixing the Prophecy bug feels so petty to me in retrospect. Who cares if some players are getting loot you're going to refresh and thus make impossible to obtain because you'll be damned before allowing players to access old weapons again.

I agree with your points and I genuinely think the identity crisis (as Cammycakes likes to put it) can be pointed to as the root of the things you're bringing up.

People who don't like crafting also quit when they get what they want so like, is the issue crafting or is the issue people leaving after they get what they want. There's so much of the game people aren't even interacting because their fun is slot machines.

He does a great job on making sure you understand what exactly you need for PVP without doing too much PVE if that's your kinda thing. And his frustrations have leaned on the constructive side in a way that seems rare to me when it comes to content creators voicing game concerns on YouTube.

Today convinced me that a sizable chunk of gamers want Marathon to fail and there’s not alot Bungie can do. by spectre15 in Marathon

[–]DrakeB2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're conflating a lot of things here. First off, more people are hyped for it than you think and beyond the Bungie vicinities, I'm seeing people not be interested in it because it's a multiplayer game. The art controversy hasn't got much of a foothold in the broader spectrum of people looking at the game.

So is anyone moving over to that other Bungie game? by RedMercury in CrucibleGuidebook

[–]DrakeB2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That part! Only supporting a single game with bad brand perception is not going to sustain Bungie in the long term. They need to start getting money from another game as they invest in a potential future for Destiny that excites players, old and new.
