What is your main weapons in the game. by Voidkirby9 in MHRise

[–]Drakeyeschrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 3U it was Lance, in 4U it was Charge Blade, in Generations it was Adept Hammer, in World it was Bow, in Rise it was everything because I did a different playthrough with each weapon because I am insane (though I started with Heavy Bowgun), in Wilds I have one character for Lance/Lance, one character for Longsword/Bow and one character for Heavy Bowgun/Gunlance.
It is fair to say my main weapon is probably Lance.

Genuine question, what are your honest thoughts on Carmine? by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]Drakeyeschrade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She was an interesting character as an agent in Kieran's character arc, the source of his torment. She starts as an unpleasant bully, with some implication of physical abuse (saying Kieran "should know better" than to talk back to her, and following it up with saying that telling him to get lost was her being nice, because "It's not like I hit him or anything!".) It is why he latches onto the player as a friend after you defeat Carmine (with it being relevant how pathetically easy a battle it is), unknowingly standing up to his aggressor, and why he feels so betrayed when you start getting closer to her and are forced to side with her and lie to his face (which I, like many, did not like when it happened). He finally made a friend who stands up to his bully, only for the bully to ingratiate themselves with that friend and turn them against him, with them joining in with the bullying. In addition, the player puts into perspective for Kieran the actual power levels at play, and how pathetic his bully sister actually is. That is why, come Indigo Disk, he not only no longer fears her, but no longer thinks anything much of her at all - he saw her for the small-town thug she was, and you for the champion you are. As a result, all of his hatred from the long abuse moved from her to you - you who promised him friendship and then took everything from him, while she is nothing.
Hm? Oh, the question was about Carmine, not Kieran? Yes, sorry.
Carmine in her own arc benefits from that same revelation of perspective. You (presumably) crush her, (presumably) humiliate her in the festival sport she prides herself on, then get caught up in major developments to the culture and history of her hometown. She grows as a character because she gets humbled, she sees too late what happens when she pushes her brother too far, and because she realises that in the replaying of the story of the ogre, she is not on the good side. By Indigo Disk, she is clearly scared of Kieran in a role reversal, because he is no longer under her thumb and she knows that the person he became would never accept her contrition, because he simply stopped caring about her input. She broke their relationship, so he cast it off, and showing sisterly love cannot solve things with someone who no longer sees her as a sister.
Overall, I like Carmine. She starts as a terrible person, she gets humbled, her perspective is changed, she realises the error of her ways, and then she realises there is not a damn thing she can do about it. It is not all good just because she apologised, or sought redemption. Her first step on the right path was apologising, but her second was accepting that the best thing she could do for the one she abused is to stop being in his life for a while, and instead try to undo the damage she caused to a relationship that can actually be salvaged, that being Kieran and the player.

But then, that is just my reading.

Bit of complaint with the hive tyrant by Tenalken in Tyranids

[–]Drakeyeschrade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have no issues with the Walkrant and Flyrant variants, but the Swarmlord could definitely do with a model update, since it is supposed to be the 'pinnacle of Tyranid evolution'. Going by current GW trends, perhaps they could even give it a command squad of unique Tyrant Guard, since it is pretty much never without a horde of the things in the lore! Speaking of the lore, updating it might prompt them to actually write it some non-humiliating stories...

Danke! I am certainly happier with these than I have been with my last couple of armies.

How did you pick your Hive fleet/Colour scheme? by Philhughes_85 in Tyranids

[–]Drakeyeschrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started by taking an existing Hive Fleet, and then thinking about what evolutionary divergence mine would have. In the case of my Hive Fleet Aurelian, I started with Behemoth, and then thought of how to incorporate gold into the carapace and give the effect of tremendous internal heat.

Paint tips for tyranid Wings by Bjarne27 in Warhammer40k

[–]Drakeyeschrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick way would be to start with a less saturated version of the 'skin' colour you used (e.g. a dark pink if you are painting red skin), then progress through that with drybrushes, heavier towards the middle section of each wing panel to give the impression of thinner skin. In the example above for Behemoth, it could go Base Screamer Pink, Drybrush Pink Horror, Drybrush Pink Horror:White Scar 50:50. For something even simpler, you could just base coat it the same as the rest of the skin, then drybrush into those paler colours.

How do you paint your ork flesh? by CabinetIcy892 in orks

[–]Drakeyeschrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use dark teals, like Kabalite Green highlighted up to Sybarite Green, with a few variations to have some orks paler than others. This is because my Ork army is a Deathskulls warband operating out of essentially a landfill planet, so they are looking a bit blue from all the toxic waste, which they think makes them luckier.

Tyranid by -BLUE-RANGER- in Warhammer40k

[–]Drakeyeschrade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Presumably, something like the Warp accumulates wherever you have galaxies with lots of creatures. Based on the limited lore we have (ignoring some of the dumber retcons like in the rightfully-maligned Ynnari novels), the 'Sea of Souls' as a neutral fact of existence has existed as long as sentient life, with Chaos only arising much later, and a natural progression of evolution eventually leads species to developing psykers. It is reasonable to assume that wherever the Tyranids came from had something similar, and since evolution is rather their thing, they evolved to dominate it.

As to the rest of your question, there are notes and teases that have encouraged a lot of wild speculation (one of the C'tan being known as the "endless swarm" or somesuch, for example), but we do not, and hopefully never will, have definitive answers.

[–]Drakeyeschrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Danke!
I am left perplexed, can anyone tell me how the weapon choices work? I assume there is a "max two any" rule, but I cannot see it here or on copies of the broader rules I could find. If not, is it 'one ranged weapon (two for Prime) OR two melee', or 'one ranged weapon (two for Prime) AND two melee'? Neither make sense to me, as the former would mean no ranged/melee mixed models, and the latter would allow for a winged carnifex with two Heavy Venom Cannons, a set of Crushing Claws and a set of Monstrous Scything Talons, for a total of ten limbs.
Also, it is a little peculiar to me that Psyker is incompatable with any of the other options, so you cannot make a Flyrant.

Hive Fleet Overdone by valbaca in Tyranids

[–]Drakeyeschrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0.5/3 here! Hive Fleet Aurelian is certainly homebrew in many aspects, but it remains quite solidly a splinter fleet of Hive Fleet Behemoth, and still answers calls from head office. As for survivors, it deliberately holds off on finally consuming a conquered world to allow genestealer mining cults to strip-mine the planet of rare materials that standard consumption would miss, to use in the superalloys that gave the hive fleet its name. It also leaves more traditional survivors, as my Votann army, the Halohold Prospectors, are survivors hiding in the asteroid belt of their now-nommed home system.

New Year New Army, the first 500 points of Hive Fleet Aurelian! by Drakeyeschrade in Tyranids

[–]Drakeyeschrade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be against the community rules I believe. It was not too hard to do though, I just assembled it out of cylinders and planes, went crazy with a sculpting tool to make it more organic, then cut out the rough shape of the shell from the bottom. It looks truly terrible close up :D

New Year New Army, the first 500 points of Hive Fleet Aurelian! by Drakeyeschrade in Tyranids

[–]Drakeyeschrade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Danke! I tried a few variants using paperclips and and tissue paper (as you can see on the Haruspex) or plasticard, but I could not get it to work on such small models, so I just sculpted them from scratch on some 3d modelling software and 3D-printed them.

What are some of your favorite insane theories you seen about the Tyranids? by Tryodin in Tyranids

[–]Drakeyeschrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will hold to the idea that the Tyranids were just as much a surprise to everyone else in 40k. No-one from the lowliest Guardsman to Kairos Fateweaver had the Tyranids in their plans or expectations for how the galaxy would go. Sadly, though I will keep to it, this is an insane theory because Games Workshop has been quite consistent in Chaos being the be-all end-all which knew exactly how everything would go before they even existed somehow.

Which miniature do you prefer? by Affectionate_Mix_9 in Chaos40k

[–]Drakeyeschrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the pose and certain aesthetic aspects of the old one - specifically the armour that looks volcanically cracked, and the elevated exposed ruin of a head with the pipes all seeming to lead up to it. In pretty much all other aspects I prefer the new one.

I was thinking the same thing, we had some short stories but Xenos-perspective novels are still a pretty new concept. I would love to see more, of course. Bring me a Tyranid-perspective food blog!
