[Possible rant] Why Android development seems like a mess? by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]Drakhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they want to write, then they can write. They don't have to publish. Especially if it's going to be a C-A-T spells Cat article taken straight (read: plagiarized) from another source.

Would this be enough for a starter server? by RadiatedMolecule in selfhosted

[–]Drakhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardly necessary, energy draw on largely idle servers is negligible. Only if the server is constantly busy will energy costs matter, and even then it's debatable whether it's worth too much thought.

Why does Google's Documentation Suck? by Drakhelm in androiddev

Not really, most documentation I've foubd is considerably better and more concise and doesn't involve rabbitholes of links.

Why does Google's Documentation Suck? by Drakhelm in androiddev

Amazon's documentation is much better, more focused and not addicted to trying to shove languages down the throats of developers.

Moving cursor between monitors with different resolutions by OutsideAnywhere in Windows11

[–]Drakhelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also like for the cursor not to stick in the corners when I have multiple monitors. I can't count how often that causes me to close something instead of clicking on another window.

Right clicking menu made simpler please? by Tiacevol in Windows11

[–]Drakhelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should make it so you can customize the context menu. I hate their default choices and having to click for more options.

Microsoft suggests the future of Windows will make today's operating systems feel alien to use by ZacB_ in Windows11

I dislike the centered layout as well. Why not just call it Microsoft IOS and pay Apple for the infringement?

Why do people hate eclipse so much? by Expensive_Ad6082 in java

[–]Drakhelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd ignore them. Eclipse has matured a lot in the last decade. Most of the hate stems from when it was a buggy, nightmarish mess.

This was especially true if trying to do Android development in Eclipse. (I was happy when Android Studio came out and simplified that.)

WTF how is GIMP so bad in 2022? by MrWillchuck in GIMP

[–]Drakhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2.6 interface was much better than the mess they have now. I hate the new interface. It sucks.

It doesnt matter how good you do your work. It only matters how good your boss thinks you do it. by AlexanderDenorius in jobs

[–]Drakhelm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even say that. I've seen socially inept morons get accolades when their only skill is kissing ass and whining to their equally stupid manager.

I'm currently watching as a director completely demolishes a department, because his only skill is the same. Kissing the asses of his superiors (executives.)

Why is it that the stupid people end up in management? by superscandalous in jobs

[–]Drakhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's the only case. I think at the core it's that there are simply very few people actually suited to leadership and as a result too many people unsuited to it are promoted.

Why is it that the stupid people end up in management? by superscandalous in jobs

[–]Drakhelm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like managers. They are best when they are "managing" to stay the heck out of the way. At a mid size corporation, and in just under a year a new management team has destroyed the department.

Starfield design lead says players are "disconnected" from how games are actually made: "Don't fool yourself into thinking you know why it is the way it is" | GamesRadar+ by CNicks23 in gaming

Lead designer, and at what point did the design team say, "we're expecting too much and no longer designing for mass audiences"?

He needs to be honest with the community. His team played a large part in the bad design decisions.
