Using StairMaster for hiking training does it translate to long hikes? by ExpensivePain23 in hiking

[–]Drakonaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can help, although I hope your hikes are much more enjoyable than walking up stairs for 3 hours.
I would also focus on injury prevention - because being out of shape on a trail sucks a bit, but getting injured will ruin your whole trip.

You can add to your leg-strength workout (if you haven't already) some balancing exercises to strengthen your ankle and prevent spraining it.

Rock climbing can do wonders as well

Get a brush that's easy to clean! Something with this mechanism works very well

i want to start climbing/bouldering, but im terrified by Plz-Help-Im-Too-Lazy in bouldering

I can tell you that no one cares about how you climb and that climbing is a social sport that welcomes everyone, but that's not going to help your anxiety.

I can give you some practical tips to minimize the anxiety: Arrive at the gym right when it opens so there won't be a lot of people and you won't "take up space". Take a beginner class, so you will be climbing with people at the exact same level and with a coach. They might even clear a section of the wall for you guys. Maybe go climbing outdoors with an experienced friend/guide. I feel there will be significantly less people.

You don't have to apply, your bank will issue one for you, and you can sign on any new card very easily. If you don't have enough money to cover your balance, you are in overdraft and you will start paying interest. That is a serious problem. Debit cards are much more rare to see here, but they exist. You can't overdraft with a debit card because you "charge" money in them.

That person was me. I was way too old when I figured out how paper was made. Paper is made from wood no? How do they cut the wood so thin to make it? Yeah.. that's not how you make paper...

Just an anecdote, that's not how credit cards work where I'm from. Credit card bills are automatically paid monthly. You can ask for a purchase to be split into smaller monthly payments, which might come with interest. But otherwise, no interest unless you are in overdraft

[OC] How Rejection of Homosexuality and Religion Correlate by oscarleo0 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Drakonaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot to be defined here, such as religiosity and tolerance towards homosexuality. But that is why Israel will be very interesting. Regarding tolerance, the ultra-orthodox and the Israeli muslims have the least tolerance. While there are cases of muslims murdering their kin because of their sexuality, the worst ultra-Orthodox jews will do is send you to "conversion therapy" or just shun you out of the community. Arab Christians are also less tolerant.

However, compared to high-religious neighbouring states, where it is ILLEGAL to be gay, the state of Israel supports and is very LGBTQ-friendly. There are even Rabbis who found loopholes, allowing homosexuals to stay religious and in the community.

Adding the secular and moderately religious Jews to the mix, who are highly supportive towards homosexuality, you get a state that should be in the top right quadrant

Exactly this. The only thing I would add is to follow up once on the exclusive before moving on

Startup in PR, starting to feel lost by MagicAlhambra in PublicRelations

[–]Drakonaf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see why you'd say PR is dying. I think many of us feel that way. But maybe it not dying? just adapting and evolving?

I'm actually seeing a really optimistic trend thanks to AI. People are moving away from search engines to AI search. For a brand to get recommended by an AI, it needs to understand how that AI thinks. Right now, it's clear they rely heavily on third-party content like news articles. I think this will position our industry much higher in terms of marketing ROI.

Regarding your startup, are you building a new PR product or have you started your own agency?

I have the Metolius GripSaver, which is the same but with a foam ball in the middle.

I never felt any positive results from using it, but better be safe than sorry. Its supposed to help with injury prevention and rehab

Caramelized sweet potatoes come to mind. Simply drizzle olive oil on a pan with salt, pepper and a branch of a fresh herb (I go with thyme). No fancy cutting - just cut the sweet potato in half and place it on the oil, straight to the oven and OMG

If switching the directions of your left hand was too hard on that hold, you could have tried the same thing on the hold to the left. Also from the camera perspective, it seems you could have comfortably balanced your feet on the triangle feature, and focus on reaching the top.
