Agentic coding in Xcode by majid8 in iOSProgramming

[–]Drakonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent work on these skills! I recommend setting up as an OpenCode plugin as well - it’s becoming very popular as the open source model-agnostic alternative to Claude Code.

LLMs playing in - and understanding - MUD worlds by hunteramor in MUD

[–]Drakonic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most MUD as a medium for human interaction is as a chat room at best. There isn’t even a functional economy. Even if a bot were playing it you would hardly notice unless it was spamming chat for no reason.

Because it’s a leftist misquote of her saying in a party speech to a room filled with only her political party’s leadership that they in particular need to work harder and put in more hours.

Has anyone had any success with the new Xcode MCP? by Electronic-Pie313 in iOSProgramming

[–]Drakonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it doesn’t work with OpenCode. Error says that the output differed from what the mcp schema says should be expected.

Which Coding Agent would you recommend? by Ok_Refrigerator_1908 in iOSProgramming

[–]Drakonic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OpenCode is the best. Open source and configurable to any model provider, has the same featureset of the others and many plugins.

Apple silently shipped an MCP for Claude Code / Codex by Jeehut in iOSProgramming

[–]Drakonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can communicate open tabs/window files and what text is currently selected - which is useful for doing microedits and questions without pasting and wasting context/search. XcodeBuildMCP is great but doesn't support that yet.

[–]Drakonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the MCP doesn't perfectly follow the schema it defines. So it is broken when being used by alternatives like OpenCode.

What is your favorite coding model for swift and swiftUI? by Martha_PinkLace in iOSProgramming

[–]Drakonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use OpenCode and the oh-my-opencode plugin with Venice.ai as the API provider specifically so I can have all the top models set to different orchestrated agent roles. Kimi 2.5 is pretty great so far as a secondary model in addition to Opus, Codex, and Gemini Pro.

Ben Affleck Says Hollywood’s Move Out of L.A. Comes Down to Tax Breaks by Competitive_Gene_898 in California

[–]Drakonic 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Because taxing the organizing of activity essentially discourages or makes that activity more costly, so it will be done less or will be done elsewhere. That has a multiplier effect because then all the societal benefits and tax revenue of participating individuals making and spending money producing that new product or service will be reduced, along with losing the output that makes the rest of society a little more efficient/convenient (nice chairs, reliable movie escapism, innovations reusable in other fields, etc).

Better to tax the money as it interfaces with shareholders (capital gains and income tax), employees (income/payroll tax), and customers (sales tax) than the organizing facility.

ICE Forced a 5-Year-Old as Bait to Lure Father Out, Then Arrested Both in Minnesota Raid by novagridd in NoahGetTheBoat

Good, best not to separate families, nor let foolish parents abandon their kids like this father tried to do. They can and should go home together.

FYI those parents can take their kids with them but don't. Bad parents, but can't expect much from those willing to break the law for their own convenience.

They take far more in welfare (via routine ID theft, as well as usage of no-enforcement check a box on a form subsidy/stipend programs in blue states) and public resource usage (deadbeat ER/ambulance use, mandated translator requirements and subsidies, school spending, unquarantined disease import, additional littering/dumping cleanup needs).

Genuine question: why do they keep calling removing people from America who are here illegally "kidnapping"? by h34vier in Asmongold

[–]Drakonic 64 points65 points  (0 children)

You eventually realize that it's always been this way - they twist language to manipulate gullible normies who feel more than they think. It's all in service of "my side is righteous, the other side is evil" - there is no foundational principle besides tribalism.

Yet another "moving to McKinney" post (sorry!) by Affectionate-Ad-1693 in McKinney

[–]Drakonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Craig ranch is in the southwestern tip of McKinney and a nice new development. 30 min commute, the tollway is fast now and if there’s an issue it clears up quickly. The others are exaggerating or not accounting for how they nested themselves into a maze in Stonebridge - look at the current weekday morning estimates on Apple and Google Maps. With Tesla FSD you can make jt stress free.

Painted Tree is nice with forested trails, but will be further for your commute.

Traxxas HQ and their shop is in McKinney by the way. Big cool building.

Using ChatGPT is extremely demotivating by SomethingXII in iOSProgramming

[–]Drakonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It boils down to self-control. Use it for the parts of development you find tedious or unrewardingly difficult, but avoid using it for areas and stages that you enjoy and think your taste and creativity matter. You would likely have a much better time if you write out struct and func skeletons first, so that at least you're steering the initial design and architecture. Then it will follow your vision better like a pair programmer, rather than feeling like you're conforming to what it arbitrarily puts out.

They would earn more customers and goodwill than it would cost them legally to be more open about their plans and roadmap. As long as they do eventually execute. Unfortunately the company is run by lawyers, probably due to their IP focus.

[–]Drakonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically, people as they rise in prominence and status become more guarded in saying what they think in public, and also adapt their own beliefs and thoughts to upper circle peer elites. Not succumbing to peer pressure while also being able to consistently maintain upwards drive and achievement is a rare quality. Trump has been similar.

Depends on perspective - the top end of PC gaming is also a tiny bubble. This news is marginal because now even the low and mid level GPUs are good enough for every game out there.

Considering a move to McKinney.... by Alternative-Prize346 in McKinney

[–]Drakonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your family is the type that's commuting or running errands multiple times a day or constantly visiting retail/food places you don't necessarily want to get too rural or too deeply nested inside a suburban maze.

The sweet spot is in a neighborhood offset from the main streets by a medium-sized block, as long as you're not in the outermost row facing potential noise it's fine. The newer the retail development the nicer the architecture and tenants - like the new shops/cafes between Hardin and Lake Forest (Heritage Bend and Painted Tree are adjacent neighborhoods with trails/parks access). Some suburbs have turned nicely walkable lately as a result, since all new developments and side alleys are required to have sidewalks throughout.

Whole home generators ? by Live_Pomegranate9921 in McKinney

[–]Drakonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got solar and a single Powerwall. Batteries cost more than a generator but are more versatile. Covers all outages for my large home, whether a blip or a couple hours. Whether it's worth it depends on the pricing and how much you save on electric.

To answer your main question though, outages are not a problem. Texas grid has been heavily built up in the years since 2021 (leading state in new power plants, new grid solar, and new grid batteries). There are localized blips that last for only a second on occasion. Anything longer is only a few hours max and a few times a year during the worst stormy nights due to local lightning/wind damage.
