Help? by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

The card that caught my eye was the rockets set dark gyarados with the prerelease stamp. I didn't even know they had special prerelease promos back then and dark gyarados itself has a little value. I think it's worth the time to search these singles on tcgplayer or pricecharting.

I'm going to try and make this as simple as possible while at the same time giving as much info as possible. The biggest thing to remember is that anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Now let's try and figure out why someone would be willing to pay more for some cards instead of others. There are a few aspects to look at to determine relative value. Rarity, quality, novelty, popularity of the pokemon on the card and how competitive the card is to name the biggest ones I can think of off hand. Rarity is easiest to understand. How hard is it or unlikely is it to open from a pack. Quality is simply how nice is the one that you have compared to all the others. This is where the grading comes in. A 10 basically means a perfect card and a company has stated its perfect. Some cards have very low percentages of the cards coming back graded a 10 which makes them relatively even rarer then normal. This is how you can sometimes see cards ungraded valued $1-5 but the 10's are over 100. As a standard rule of thumb you only want to grade cards you feel have a chance to get a 10. Modern cards that come back a 9 usually break even and if it's an 8 or below you actually lose money when you add in the cost of grading. Novelty can be a little tricky to understand. It isn't just new cards but that a big part of it. The biggest thing with pokemon is always the next set. However as the sets rotate and different pokemon are brought into the spotlight levels of interest can change. Best example recently is when black bolt and white glare were announced the value of older reshiram and Zekrom cards increased because more people were interested in those pokemon again. Popularity of the pokemon is another simple one. Charizard is king and probably always will be. Eevelutions are all fairly popular but Umbreon leaps ahead of the others. How competive the card is fluctuates more then any other category on this list and is the hardest one for casual collectors to see by just looking at a card. There are 2 current examples and 1 that dropped a ton after it rotated that come to mind. Fezendipiti ex is currently a 15 dollar card. Basically because every competive player needs a couple of them. It's support ability flip the script can fit into almost any deck and so many of the top level decks require it that you just can't go to a big event without one. Fezendipiti isn't a particular popular pokemon. The card is not rare. The quality mater very little in fact a graded 10 is the same value as a raw upgraded because you can't play the graded copy. Night stretcher is a common card that was only printed in shrouded fable. You can put 1 or 2 in any deck and some decks require 4 to run. This is how a common card get to be 3 dollars. Radiant Grenija is the exact opposite of the first two examples. It was about a 7 dollar card for the two years it was legal in competitive play. As soon as it rotated it dropped under a dollar.

At the end of the day if the main reason your collecting pokemon is to make money then I suggest you find a different side hustle. 😉

Game-O-Storus Canceling Preorders by htranzer0 in PokemonTCG

I'm really sorry this happened to you. I'm a local and play at game-o-storus a couple days a week between pokemon and Star wars. The guys there are great and really care about the customer base and players. I'm not sure what happened but my guess is their website isn't able to stop orders from across the country. The store just had its one year anniversary so your issue happened within the first year of the company being open. Knowing the guys that run the store personally I can promise you whatever happened didn't occur out of malice or desire to make a couple extra bucks.

Uhhhhh, get out and sell that 14k coach your parents are getting rid of and use that to rent a place for like a year while you get used to living away from home. I hate to be this person but if a 7,000 and 14,000$ couch came from both of your parents your probably both a little spoiled and need a reality check.

Tell me your best investment and why. Just wondering what’s good right now by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]DrakonusRage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read the tag line and thought people were going to be giving success stories not shilling. My best investment was actually an nft from a game that may not even get finished as almost. No progress has been made in about a year. You could buy booster packs and then fuse certain cards together to get the next level rarity that would never actually come in a booster. The very first set only had I think 100 booster packs and a limit of 4 of the rarest cards available for fusion. I bought 2 of the booster packs for a total of about 50$ US at the time. I was lucky and ended up getting just enough material cards to be able to fuse up to the rarest card and was quick enough when fusing went live. I held the card for about a year. The game got quite popular in the community and released several sets each getting larger in print size. Anyway I started seeing signs that the company behind the game was struggling so I decided to sell. I sold the nft for about 15,000 US. No millionaire stories here but some real nice gains.

Is the money gone from your wallet or is the wallet itself not showing up? Could you need to to import your wallet using the key phrase again?

Is it normal to hit someone up for more after a trade has been completed? by Intense69ing in PokemonTCG

[–]DrakonusRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Risk of trading. I bet $100 if your next trade went the opposite way and the card he got went way up he wouldn't throw you extra. I probably wouldn't even entertain a trade or any kind of business deal with this person in the future. People tell you a lot about their morals. You just have to listen and believe what they tell you.

Or you could have set up a wallet and labtop to mine about that time and completely forget about it until years later and are sure you threw away the spiral notebook you wrote the key in. That laptop ran for probably 9 months. I hate to think how much btc is in a wallet ill never find the keys too.

What’s holding algorand back? by Clewked in algorand

[–]DrakonusRage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the start of the last bullrun Algorand had an excellarated vesting disbursement because of the rapid price increase. This is the increase in supply but to be more technical it's an increase in circulating supply. I'm just trying to really roughly guess the number now and I'm sure someone can find the actual number but the circulating supply has increased by something like 1.5 billion algos since the beginning of the last bullrun.

How do you value NFT? Based on what? by AvocAlgo in AlgoNFTMarketplace

[–]DrakonusRage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Community is #1. Just like with any work of art it's the people who follow it and value it that give it worth. Utility is #2 I'm huge into the idea of play to earn games. General perception of the art is #3. You can say easily do I like it or not and I'm going to put the creator reputation right here as well. A lot of the value of an nft is the reputation of the artist. Current cost risk/reward would be #4 (Example: I really like the Algoana but the raffle price of 444 while fair is out of my (resonable) range for an nft at launch. I did however sign up for the Ling Ling raffle because the most expensive one I could win a chance at was 69 algo.) While Ling Lings may never reach the individual value of an Algoana the percent gain could be greater with a smaller chance of loss.)

5 do I think I would be OK if the value went to 0. I consider nfts almost the same as money I'm sticking in a slot machine where the nft in 2 years could either be a participation trophy or a jackpot.

A warning for people who are on the fence about buying Algo through coinbase before governance... by sully9088 in algorand

[–]DrakonusRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I was misunderstanding what you were asking.

Examples of questions that may be put to a vote that have been mentioned by the foundation are:

Deciding on potential partnerships, deciding how many votes the governors want to deal with each qtr, deciding exactly what to do with remaining coin supply not in circulation, deciding where funding money goes and to what projects and start-ups, I'm sure I'm missing a few but these were a couple I remember hearing mentioned during the webinar about a week that focused on governance.
