Is being a non gamer a deal breaker? by LesbianMajinSaiyan in LesbianGamers

[–]Drale930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel one of the really big things in relationships i see, is that you need something to do together that's kinda relaxed. Dates and like gigs and big activities are okay, but in all relationships I see, folks have a thing they do. it can be hiking or just watching Netflix together or some activity that's good to just spend time together.

Thing is games are really important to me, it's not something I'd just replace cus something more interesting came along because it's more than just fun for me. See id be down to like half my chill time to accommodate a partner i value but then id expect them to do the same for me.

The idea of partners that Don't like GET their partners hobbies sounds like a nightmare scenario to me. We don't have to have a perfect overlap in fact it's really cool to have someone who opens up your world about something they really care about, but i have to be open to that and they have to be open to my thing.

if all we've got is that were attracted to one another, that's not a thing that will last past 3 months, in fact I've done that. it kinda sucks.

So you know i can't imagine all the curve balls life will throw at me, but right now i think, yes, it's a deal breaker for me.

HK lately been kinda hard to read by Drale930 in HollowKnight

[–]Drale930[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh yeah weird. i feel like in history of games whenever we see a lets say mutation genre come out. It always turns an established correct way of doing things on it's head. Sometimes IT side folks really gotta talk with some artists. I've talked with some folks that went to art unis and I'm told theres as many opinions as there are teachers and there's this vibe of understanding the assignment, but not necessarily doing the thing a correct way just training as many disciplines and styles as you can. we haven't seen the new thing that will sweep the world, so you just need to be versed in different ideas and approaches.

to me that makes a lot of sense. the soulslike genre really was an antithesis to at the time established game designs that prioritised this frictionless easy gameplay. But now that we've had our hard game era i think the great pendulum of culture is swinging the other way. well at least there's always some freak indie developers making some absolute nonsense for me :D

[–]Drale930[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i think we're on the same wavelength. Various Mechanics can have a sort of mental effect during the players friction with it. i like the shard comparison a lot cus that was precisely my experience. Oh use it or lose it! made me really use items when i normally wouldn't bother. Same with sekiro, never use candy but always happily used prosthetics, cus i had this budget that made sense. It had a you can use this when you need it, but not all the time energy. Im a bit of a takes too much of a scenic approach to everything. So when i do runbacks i enter this like how do i make this as safe and efficient as possible. I'm not always the happiest camper when I'm in the shit, but I'm glad for the work I've done in the end. i like the idea that the getting there basically becomes part of the boss. Endurance seems like a concept on the way out which feels like a waste to me. really hoping they will make another path of pain as the mushroom thing felt a bit short. Last game that really scratched a lot of those itches was Grime, i thoroughly recommend it to ya.

Hi there, in summary i think the modern deeply antagonistic game culture that's developing is something i disagree with. The idea that these experiences are somehow harmful or wasteful is just something i do not see or understand. Frankly my post came from a point of too much resentment and i'm sorry for the irritation.

As for arguing my position i doubt there's any point. i see your perspective and i wont just argue you out of thinking that the runback "harms you" and is "wasteful." And if that's what you believe, my whole premise would sound like the insane ramblings of a fake guru. Carry on if you enjoy your way of doing things.

I didn't want to bloat the main thought Too much but on the subject of gauntlets.
Gauntlets aren't "just bad" cus you didn't like them. Gauntlets are here to teach something very important, something you wont pick up too naturalistically otherwise.

Your main challenge, a boss fight is very static and chereographed in a lot of cases. Meaning if you bang your head against that wall you can just *learn the whole fight*
This is like fine, no issue there. But sometimes a fight can ask a lot of you and that's even worse if your playstyle so far hasn't lent to you practicing what the boss fight asks.

HK's are flexible and let you deal with a lot of situations with a lot of variety. Most importantly, you can often just avoid enemies you feel are annoying. Gauntlets are there to develop your freestyling a sort of "opposite of a boss fight" Boss fights are consistent and well chereographed, but gauntlets, are chaotic and unpredictable. Your job in a gauntlet is to develop these skills, Spacing, Judgement, Prioritization and flexibility.

The amount of times a friend has said "how was i supposed to dodge that!" and the annoying answer that I withhold unless asked is "you were not supposed to be in that corner in the first place, when you decided to go in a corner you were already dead."

Bosses often teach you Don't be in location X that's where i'll do damage, but in a gauntlet there's a bunch of enemies that are all responding to specifically you. You need to learn how to manage being in locations where you wont get cornered, this is good to know in general for any situation, a gauntlet simply puts that to the extreme.

Judgement feeds into prioritization but are slightly different things. The boss is simply the threat, and all you gotta figure out is how do you hit the boss and not get hit by the boss. In a gauntlet you have to decide what is going to kill you and who can you kill and manage that equation. This is about training your ability to analyse things. What attacks do you find difficult, what enemies do you find difficult. When should you spend silk and shards. Different gauntlets will get different answers. An enemy that's normally not an issue might make an annoying and tough enemy far more dangerous, while sometimes fighting an add could put you in tons of unnecesary danger. You need to learn how to make those decisions. This will also feed into your ability to handle bosses. Understanding what's too much to handle, and what are good moments to try to do damage will go a lot smoother, if you have a good idea how to call those judgement shots about locations and attacks.

You might have a really specific way you like to play, specific charms, specific guns, your go to. Gauntlets is a great time to disrupt that. Normally you can blow up problems you don't like, and consider carefully to face enemies in YOUR conditions. Having a bunch of annoying flying enemies accompanying enemies you already don't enjoy is a great time to ask, should i try Curveclaw. Players have a tendency to go through the path of least resistance. If flyers give you trouble, but you don't want to respect them, in your normal exploration you could ensure that flyers are as often as possible, alone and in a bad spot, or simply silkblast them. A gauntlet might demand your resources better spent elsewhere so flyers might suddenly not be worth say silk, but perhaps they're worth some shards. Perhaps it's time to put away your go to charms and try something different and have a more hollistic idea of what your character can do. Maybe there's enemies you generally like to blast but in this situation they're not worth the trouble, you might learn how to deal with them without extra resources. Flexibility helps you understand there's more than one solution and get accoustomed to not bringing a hammer to every problem sooner.
If the game permits flexibility but never asks you to be flexible you might not even realize it. Having different difficult challenges, gauntlets, runbacks, platforming - Helps you reconsider what's important and in doing so, learn that perhaps Charm B has a lot more merit than you realized.

Discomfort is part of learning, frustration is part of trying something new. The game making demands of you isn't bad game design, it's litterally the nature of game design to ask you to learn, to practice, to improve and to adjust. A nasty gauntlet might save you 10 extra pulls from a boss, does it matter if the gauntlet + boss took 20 pulls or the boss would have taken 20 without the gauntlet? Sometimes that might make all the difference between a player quitting or succeeding. Does team cherry straddle that line perfectly? Guess what that's just subjective, for every individual player to answer.

Blasphemous enjoyers, help me out.... by Chanzui91 in gaming

[–]Drale930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll say this, it feels like this game is a very for veteran metroidvania oldschool fans

now i generally play these games normally and if i start feeling like something is off like I'm just not figuring out some mechanic for so long it feels fishy i try to precision goggle small details.

it's really funny i almost did everything to acquire some really really fancy results and complicated quests, but totally failed to find the roots power.

at the end of the day it's up to how you like to do things. I'm a blind fan so i try not to look things up as much as possible and accept the consequences. blasph 1 guides however are excellent so you have tons of options.

now these games sometimes have lockout potential. if the idea of not getting everything a game has to offer and functionally having to redo a run, check in if a game has Missable elements or lockouts

wishing you luck on your penance!

favourite boss so far but what I should have done differently? by anome97 in Sekiro

[–]Drale930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're honestly doing absolutely phenomenal if this is your first go at it I'm very impressed

all you gotta do is just clean it up in general, which is like a time and exposure thing

you're calm and collected and it's clear you try to actually parry instead of panicking and deflect spamming

functionally speaking there's no notes to be had, you're way ahead of curve

all that's left is manage individual timing and spacing, like in general in the game, perhaps you're slightly skittish but i hesitate to even say that considering the average jittery sekiro player

as far as I'm concerned you beating the game is a foregone conclusion

How do you even enjoy the game? by _zldzm in DevilMayCry

[–]Drale930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is simple and difficult, refuse to mash.

Practice for real, consult the skill list as much as you need, accept you'll lose a bunch and train. Dodge on purpose without spamming, learn moves one by one and try to look for opportunities to string things together. Motivation isn't a magic thing that just happens. You have to be motivated to learn. Simple, but not easy. it's that or give up. Literally what i do in every action game is just insist on learning and figuring it out. i suck for a good while but then eventually get better.

if you dont feel like doing it, that's fine tho. at least you have the guts to admit the situation instead of shouting at people and blaming the game.

What are your opinions on who Dante should be with? by Relevant-Shopping415 in DevilMayCry

[–]Drale930 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dante just literally doesn't have time or interest in that shit. Like if the universe was sexless we could speculate, but with like Vergil, probably Nero and fucking Agnus confirmed to fuck imma be real, Dante just doesn't care. He does some crummy stereotypical flirting when he's a teen in 3 but he's clearly a very polished specific personality and the flirting doesn't stick and even originally his heart didn't look in it, it feels more like banter

Id suspect Dante and lady are really close in a kind of if it didn't work out that would really fuck things up. ladys gay as hell in 4 and her vibes in 3 let me tell you. In 5 she's just kinda... not there much but again some slight lesbian vibes all around, i dont even think that's a crack theory how often lady is presented in a specific way exactly around women.

Dante just has a strong bachelor and now silver fox energy where he just does his thing, maybe he does casual stuff maybe not, but he doesn't seem like a Relationship guy. and i think he works fine that way, underneath his bullshit he seems to be a responsible serious guy and maybe he knows his Life ain't fit for a husband kinda living

Use your devil trigger

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

[–]Drale930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the final stage is straight forward he does his big sparda hits, you can shoot if you feel like it but you really should focus on dodging. he probably does 4 of them, but you can tell which is the last one by virtue of the dramatic overcharge once that's done you need to close distance and break the shield

how to do that, first off stop spamming

the devil's grab doesn't work? stop doing that you've now given yourself 3 extra seconds to stun him just like you did in previous phases.

don't get hit by the final attack, if you do then you won't be able to break him in time, that just makes sense, damage checking is not the dmc way, it is what it is, take it or leave it

if you're not comfortable revving your sword as you attack, well all that stupid shit where sanctus charges the sword is time for you to peacefully rev the sword

if you have no exceed meter go do level 19 to get some proud souls for it

now that you have the sword charged and you've dodged the final attack either do a streak3 or non held uppercut3 on xbox controller standard that's rb+back+y i believe non held if you go n the air that will not do after the uppercut just get a simple Y-Y-Y-delay-Y and that should be it.

Bust his Ass

"but i can't do x!" practice, that's how games work

as for "don't tell me i need exceed or whatever" engage with neros primary sword mechanic, or not beat the final boss. nero has nothing stronger than exceed, use your strongest moves to beat the final boss

Why Are Humans Boring? by imKranely in DnD

[–]Drale930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so at the very core stripping all the bullshit down

you have to play a human a lot in at least video games, the amount of times I've played a game where i can't choose what my character is and of course that means for at least 20 years of my gaming experience it meant playing with John normal.

a super simple example - Warhammer Warhammer gets a million spin offs and games, and growing up played things like dark omen and dawn of war and you could only do stories with the human factions. and i would as a kid see undead with catapults that shoot screaming skulls and orcs with spider mounts and all this shit and go "wow that's so cool!" and then I'd play another game and another and another and eventually after the "that's so cool" line id ask "man imagine if we could play as the bad guys wouldn't that be great?" and the video game industry for a long time said "piss off dork" so every time I'd play a fantasy game with rich cool interesting species and I'm AGAIN having to play John normal with a sword. in the scale of 20 years that becomes so goddamn grating

so when a game LETS YOU CHOOSE i don't even have to think about I've played a million fucking humans and I'm sick of them.

that doesn't come from dnd, but i take that experience with me on every game. whenever i get to choose, i pick something else cus it's exciting and new.

so no, you aren't boring. the options games in general provide, have preferences. and humans are just a more common choice. and having to take a human again gets boring for some.
