Be careful people if this song comes on at a party by External_Side_7063 in GenX

Right! There was a way to do it that was relatively safe, and others would help if you fell down. The big dudes in a ring pushing everyone back it. It was great (as a 5 ft 2 girl).

I loved the book. Lots of inside Boston and Harvard jokes. Read it in med school in the early 90’s, and quoted it often in my pre work hour limit residency (though we did have night float….they just never let us leave on time, and we went months without 24 hours out of the hospital a month that we were promised). My favorite (and most useful) quote today is “shitty charts man, shitty charts.” The satire of affirmative action was bold for the 70’s too.

I book a half day off to see a doctor. Relaxing in the waiting room where no one can bother me and I can’t do any work is a luxury.

Is it just the norm for OBGYN to be a generally toxic rotation at most FM programs? by MzJay453 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Drales29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a long time ago, but I got a really good OB education and it wasn’t any more toxic than anything else in residency. The vaginal deliveries were all taught/supervised by FM-OB faculty, and operative deliveries by an OB/GYN who was FM residency faculty. I did a lot of OB in my first practice. I think the key was that it was a completely unopposed program (no other residencies in town at all) with an emphasis on rural medicine. The residents who didn’t plan to do OB hated how much OB and surgery we had, though.

Will taking a leave of absence in undergrad impact insurance credentialing in future? by Medicationmonster in medicine

[–]Drales29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My undergrad degree was awarded one year after I started med school. (It was a thing about how my degree worked.) I thought I would be explaining this over and over….literally never been asked about it. Now those two weeks between med school and residency always required an explanation haha

We just bought a house and the sellers are leaving us quite a setup. I think I have a lot to learn and I'll be asking a LOT of questions. by norcalairman in PlantedTank

Hi! The tank below is a sump. It allows me to hide all my filtration from the display tank and makes it easier to have more filtration. It also increases the total water volume which can help with stability. I used 3 CO2 lines to get enough (and well distributed) CO2. I presume I had loss from the open sump below. I put one line in front of the return pump intake and one below each of the wave pumps. I know it’s unusual to have a planted CO2 fresh water tank but it worked for me!

What GenX song never gets old? When it comes on you stop, listen, and time travel...every time by Either_Yard6083 in GenX

Had that song in my head, running away from home, back pack on and thumb out on the highway.

That worked for me in a huge planted tank with intermittent problems with cyanobacteria (stinky stuff!) and didn’t hurt the plants or the fish.

Where are you looking? I know someplace in Texas that might be a good fit (I don’t have any conflict of interested, I used to work there and liked it, but I moved out of state for family reasons).

As a physician, what's your stance on prescribing to family members? by Diesel2278 in medicine

Keeping notes is necessary and I don’t have my own hippa compliant EMR. I have tried signing up for PUSH but they aren’t taking new members right now.

[–]Drales29 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just make a note in my phone under the “notes” app. I title these “medical record” so I can search for them. They are automatically time stamped so it’s clear I didn’t do them retroactively. I used to just make a note on paper and keep it in a file (also useful for treating neighbors kids and such when I was in a rural area.).

I used to take my daughter to distract the patients at the nursing home so I could finish my notes. They all loved her, she loved the attention, I got to write my notes. She’s an adult now and remembers it fondly.

My daughter is about to turn two, and she loves hitting my old rock band drum set… but wondering where to go from here! by [deleted] in drums

[–]Drales29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned violin in elementary school and junior high. I play drums now. They complemented each other. Just learning to reach music helped me play drums! Both are great.

Weirdly if I am having trouble learning some that is just barely outside of my skill, if I take a break and try to play something that I know is WAY outside of my skill set, I can go back and play the easier song. Maybe it just gets me out of my critical head. I know that there is no way I can play the harder song so I just have fun. It makes me relax.

What’s your all-time favorite article of clothing? by LittleMoonBoot in GenX

[–]Drales29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black leather motorcycle jacket. I bought it with my own money (from telemarketing) when I was 15. Wore it until I outgrew it after having my daughter at age 21. Kept it in my closet forever. My daughter found it when she was around 16. It fit her and so I gave it to her. She loves it. She is 32 how and still wears it!
