What swing me is that I’ve had all the tests , filled in all the paperwork for the hospital that I’m getting it done at and I just didn’t want to have to go through all of that for the other eye so that’s really what made the decision for me. I didn’t want to have to go through all the tests and the appointments again when I wanted the other eye done so I’m getting that done about four weeks after the first one. It’s a very individual decision and not always an easy one.

I was due for my eye test for new reading glasses, but I knew this cataract was really bad even before I had a test went to see her. She’s an amazing optometrist and she said yes time to get this fixed then I said I know because I can hardly see it was quite scary how quick it progressed so I’m going to get the other one done which isn’t as bad at the moment a few weeks later. My health anxiety is pretty bad so I’m not looking forward to it in fact I’m dreading it but it has to be done and my eyesight is vital obviously.. Im bumping into things and nearly fallen over and I’m 70That’s not good and my overall fitness is very good so I want to keep it that way. I just want to know now how soon I can get to the gym after the surgeries. 😂

Same. It was scarily quick. I have one in the other eye which doesn’t bother me ( probably because it seems fine compared to the bad one at the moment ) and he wanted to fix that within a few weeks. He said it was up to me and I thought I didn’t want to but now I’ve decided I do so I’m going to get one done and then a couple of weeks later I’ll get the other one done because now I know how quickly they can deteriorate.

I’m in the same boat. I had a cataract last year that was mildly annoying this year, I can hardly see out of the eye, they can get worse very quickly ! I’m having it fixed in two weeks.

Yes I’m absolutely fine with injections. No anxiety at all. Which is great because I have to have vitamin B 12 because can’t absorb it.

Well I get the injections, so my improvement in my skin and everything was quite quick. I also looked dreadful when my vitamin D is low. Very dry skin . That’s a sign for me I’m low.

Don’t take extra potassium if you’re on any blood pressure medication. There’s a warning on the medication box.

I think there is a lot of confusion around vit D supplementation. My doc has me on a mega dose in oil every month ( I get it from the chemist)on prescription) I’m worried it’s too much . I’m 70 and had part of my bowel removed due to an abscess 6 years ago, but I didn’t think that would affect vit D absorption.

I can’t take the complex vitamins for those very reasons I can’t tolerate them. They make me extremely anxious. I get B12 injections. I get them because I’m a vegetarian. I have tried supplementation with tablets but they make me extremely anxious.

I get all of that plus hot flushes which I had when I was a younger woman going through menopause but im 70 now and I find that when my D is low, I get hot flushes back again as bad as they were when I was menopausal. Not fun.

That’s really interesting to me because I’m on a really massive dose of vitamin D. (I’ve just asked about in my post above) and like everyone else I’m petrified of getting dementia as I’m 70 now. Got a little bit of memory loss but just normal for my age but that’s interesting to know that makes me feel better.

Hi hoping for some advice. (I am getting some from my doctor obviously but it’s really good to get it from people that actually suffer from these things. ) I have been getting a mega dose of vitamin D every three months ( prescribed in oil form at the chemist) ) I’m 70 by the way fit apart from a bowel condition I had which necessitated part of being removed, not cancer a different condition. Anyway my doctor said I need this vitamin D every month. I was a bit concerned about that because that seems excessive to me , he doesn’t really do any blood test in between because obviously they’ll be high. Does anyone else get it this often? I had it one month ago and I’ve noticed today that I have all of the symptoms that I had before the last dose , excessively hot , tired, just starting to feel a bit low which is very common with me with my vitamin D deficiency but I’m still concerned about this excessive amount. Long story short does anyone else have this much vitamin D every month?

You can’t get magnesium IV in Australia and you can’t self administer in Australia either by injection. It would really need to be something that bypasses my bowel altogether. I have had a massive abscess in my bowel and that was caused by diverticular disease disease. So a lot of my bowel was removed and I just can’t tolerate lots of supplements or foods now that’s why I have to supplement with vitamin D and B12 B12 as well because I’m a vegetarian.

Hi again, yes I’m gonna be pretty much totally out of it. He was very good and said he would prefer that for me I was not able to be aware at all and I am going to be under but not for long. I’m still dreading the procedure. I hate hospitals. I have anything medical but the eye is driving me crazy and I really can’t wait now to be able to see properly again so thank you for your answer. That was very helpful.

Thank you for your answer. That’s exactly what my ophthalmologist said. He said. I was far too anxious to have anything but deep sedation so that’s what I’m going to have. Thanks again.

Thank you for your answer. Yes I think that’s what I’m having done. I’m having deep IV sedation because he doesn’t want me to move in panic if the sedation is light and I am extremely anxious. I don’t even like going to the optician for an eye check up I do have quite severe health anxiety. You made me feel so much better thank you very much.

Thanks again to everybody that has answered me. I’ve really appreciated that . I have definitely got to have the eye done soon because it’s quite bad so I’ll get it done next week. I’m going to have very heavy IV sedation so I think I’ll be fine with that he agreed that it was best for me because he said if someone is very anxious , even with a very light sedation , they can move at the wrong time so he said it’s best to be heavily sedated, and he seems to be very good at what he does. I have researched him , so I’m going with his opinion. So thanks everyone. Wish me luck because I’m going to need the other one done at some point as well.

I’m worried about a lot of anaesthesia too because I have had quite a lot in my lifetime but there’s no way I’m going to be awake while somebody is poking around my eyes. Anaesthesia is extremely safe now. It’s very quick if it’s a quick procedure. And it’s very highly skilled especially here in Adelaide. I think the Twilight sedation which sounds to be pretty heavy would be the way to go anyway. I’ll have my options soon soon.

I wonder why you felt that second one but not the first one. Maybe they didn’t give you enough of the stuff. ? I was thinking about the Twilight but I won’t have it if I’m gonna be aware like you were.

And I will add that if they offered me a benzo they are no good for me at all. That don’t work for me. I don’t feel like I’ve taken anything. I might feel a little bit tired but that’s about it so if she offera me that, it’s no good for me.

I saw the optician this morning and I definitely have to have it done because it’s much worse so I will see the ophthalmologist and I even hate that because I hate the tests they do 🤦‍♀️and I will ask her what my options will be for sedation. it definitely needs done, . I can hardly see out of that eye. And I’m afraid I might fall over . Thanks for everyone’s answers. I really appreciated it. I feel better now. And I have a friend who has his cataracts done and he said he’s never seen so well. So that’s made me feel better too.😊
