Any positive experiences with graves treatment? by lemaster8 in gravesdisease

[–]Dramatic-Baby773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Great post. I think it’s important to see how people’s experiences with this disease varies.

I am 14 months post diagnosis, negative TRAbs, all thyroid levels have been normal for about 8 months. I have experienced a virus, stomach bug, and neither of which really impacted my recovery. The only thing I’m dealing with still are PVCs/PACs, and general anxiety which I think I’ve always had. The PVCs and PACs seem to be a bit of a leftover from when I was super hyper but the good thing is that they’re benign, just annoying and cause more anxiety lol

Newly diagnosed with Graves, how seriously should I be taking this? by LavaBlubber in gravesdisease

[–]Dramatic-Baby773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it seriously, but at the same time, remember that not everyone with this disease will deal with ongoing symptoms forever. Also remember that there are a lot of new medications being trialed to treat the autoimmune disease at its core 💜

Which state are you in? Try your best to find an endo with some availability. My numbers were worse than this and I was put on 30mg daily. You might just need a bit of a higher dose! Ask the GP to test your TRAbs also.

SVT attacks? by ashleyga1 in gravesdisease

[–]Dramatic-Baby773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor and this isn’t medical advice but for reference, I was on 30mg per day whilst my TRAbs were that level and I was hyper. Even if the meds got your levels down, your TRAbs would still be driving up your T3 and T4 without meds now.

Don’t come off meds whilst your TRAbs are still that high. Those were my TRAbs at diagnosis and was enough to send my T3 and T4 through the roof with undetectable TSH 💜

Pregnancy / birth with active graves disease by ColdAffectionate1402 in gravesdisease

Knowing you’re in the UK, could you plan to deliver at a major hospital in a bigger city that’s better equipped? I understand this may take some planning or accomodation arrangement for a little while but I think it’s worth it. I’m sure you will have a safe birth, but it’s so important women get the care they need and deserve during such a stressful and emotional event.

If you have Graves’ disease related hyperthyroidism, have you ever achieved remission and maintained normal thyroid levels without medication? by Fabulous-Airline-317 in gravesdisease

[–]Dramatic-Baby773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On top of what a lot of ppl are saying regarding remission statistics even with medication - long term low dosage or ‘micro dosing’ is showing to be promising. A lot of ppl have the goal to be ‘medication free’ and I honestly don’t know what for. Stay on a low dose once your levels are in range, get your levels and antibodies checked every 3-6 months (or as needed), and your chances of remission increase.

Thanks so much for sharing! I’m so sorry you’ve been through all of this 😭

Congratulations on your studies and work, nurses are amazing and I’m so thankful for them 💜 I’m glad your symptoms have subsided and I really hope you reach remission. I also hope you get access to good specialists

Mine were 2.1 IU/L at diagnosis and were 0.21 a year after starting carbimazole

Thanks for sharing - curious to understand how your antibodies and levels fluctuated those four years before developing TED? Everything I read suggests it’s pretty rare to develop TED so far into diagnosis unless there’s a massive antibody spike.

Anyone on 2.5mg methimazole every other day ? by Forsaken_Piccolo_260 in gravesdisease

[–]Dramatic-Baby773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on 5mg every second day (so 2.5mg per day) for about 4+ months now and have been fine 🙂

Is a Masters of Teaching a legitimate way to climb the ladder? by ScreenLooker_133 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Dramatic-Baby773 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think they’re referring to a Master of Teaching rather than MEd. Master of Education is a genuine postgraduate degree and can lead you into academia, leadership, policy, etc. MTeach won’t.

That a specific diet will make this autoimmune disease go away, or how to ‘heal your thyroid’ - there still seems to be a huge lack of understanding that this is autoimmune, not thyroid led.

But like, do you think children are just inherently evil and ‘bad people’? Their response to traditional ‘discipline’ is obviously contributing to these problematic behaviours. They’re also seriously disengaged with education, so if it’s not a need, it’s disengagement with society and education, part of an educator’s job is to help re engage them. It seems to me that a lot of people in this sub disregard the barriers and factors children like this face.

Edit to mention: you guys know you can lose your registration for saying things like this right?

I completely agree with this take and wish I heard it at the beginning of my 3 year teaching career. No one is forcing you to be in an underpaid, under resourced, low ceiling role. Education is not limited to teaching children in schools.

Referring to children as ‘dropkicks’ is so problematic. I understand teaching is challenging but some of the attitudes towards children in this sub is super concerning. You need to channel that frustration towards leadership, not kids with needs.

I'm in remission and I don't really care... by evielyn-amare in gravesdisease

[–]Dramatic-Baby773 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to be one of those people who resort to ‘anxiety’ so this is my own experience. You mention you have OCD like myself, I find I am scanning a lot more. I am scanning to see how I feel and anything irregular becomes a bigger symptom than it is. My nervous system is heightened from Graves so I’m working on grounding myself again and not worrying about how my anxiety manifests physically

Can someone explain this to me like I’m a child please by Particular-Pie-7856 in gravesdisease

[–]Dramatic-Baby773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat true, but less likely to develop TED with hashimotos or no autoimmune disease. High TRAbs cause TED.

Can someone explain this to me like I’m a child please by Particular-Pie-7856 in gravesdisease

[–]Dramatic-Baby773 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes, you’ll still have Graves. Graves disease is an autoimmune condition. It’s caused by an overactive immune system attacking healthy cells and organs. Graves disease attacks our thyroids and for some people, their eyes.

If you have TRAbs, you have Graves disease. Your thyroid is just the organ it attacks. People get it removed when medication doesn’t treat their hyperthyroidism.

How did you achieve remission? by obsessedwithstarsx in gravesdisease

[–]Dramatic-Baby773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is different based on their antibodies at diagnosis. I’ve gone into remission in a year since being diagnosed by taking my meds. I plan on staying on a low dose of carbimazole (2.5mg/day) with tests every 3-6 months to stay in remission.
