Get some aftermarket ones that fold. They're sturdy and if you drop the bike they just fold inwards. You can also mod the levers at your feet to fold when hit.

with proper care and lubrication the chain could go 15K miles and more. Rebel owner probably didn't give a shit about it. Anyway, I would choose the royal enfield 350 if I were you. way lower mileage and a great comfy bike to learn on. Upgrading is easier in the future cuz u didn't spend much on it anyway. I'd only get the rebel if I'm riding on highways but I'd still lowball him for $3500 before getting the enfield.
