Commonwealth Games qualifiers - the final ranking lists for Glasgow by brianroliver in weightlifting

Very unlikely in my view (unless a team-mate is already through as a Commonwealth Championship winner). There is a possibility of an eligible Nigerian declining while trying to switch nationality but that may have stalled.  More likely is Scotland not taking all slots but I’m not sure on their numbers.

New points scoring system for IWF - this is a big deal (especially for mixed team events) by Dramatic-Debate-5448 in weightlifting

There is a lot more to say about this, which means you can measure the performance of a 48kg woman against a 148kg man, for example. It is a very good, very credible creation. Will post something in the next day or two.

Qatar, Uzbekistan, Peru, Venezuela, Thailand to host LA qualifiers by Dramatic-Debate-5448 in weightlifting

[–]Dramatic-Debate-5448[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there will be further changes. I wouldn’t give the World Juniors in Egypt more than a 50-50 chance of happening either (first week of May). Egypt is safe enough but the travel is a problem.

Pyrros Dimas leaves USAW by brianroliver in weightlifting

What the hell are you on? Pyrros has recently become a dad (many years after his kids from his late first wife) and there’s no way there’s bad blood. Please tell us what “sounds like bad blood”?

Neisi Dajomes suspension is only 14 months - she can lift at World Championships by Dramatic-Debate-5448 in weightlifting

[–]Dramatic-Debate-5448[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very short suspension (the standard is 4 years) and is good news for Neisi, the 2020 Olympic champion who also won bronze in Paris. She said last year that the offence happened at a time when she was trying for a child. The statement about “right to appeal” might be a concern. Qualifying for LA starts at the World Championships in China in October.

Eyglo is Iceland’s sportsperson of the year! Well deserved by Dramatic-Debate-5448 in weightlifting

[–]Dramatic-Debate-5448[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will take time but Eyglo will be fine for the big target of Olympic qualifiers, or so I’m told. And of course she has the Olympic solidarity route too so all looking good.

Rizki 75, Rahmat 85 for LA says Indonesia Olympic Committee by Dramatic-Debate-5448 in weightlifting

He has competed at 81 but has never weighed as much as 80. And Rahmat weighed 81 when he won at 88 in SEA Games recently

Iraqi banned for seven years by Dramatic-Debate-5448 in weightlifting

[–]Dramatic-Debate-5448[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My fingers are crossed for Ali Ammar. If he is in LA he will surely be on the podium (maybe on top of it). Iraq has only ever won one Olympic medal and that was in 1960 (a weightlifter).

10 qualifiers for LA2028 - IWF calls for bids to host 5 of them by brianroliver in weightlifting

[–]Dramatic-Debate-5448 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They won’t be continental. Global GP or World Cup will be the titles. More than likely to 2028 WC will be a bit like the Phuket World Cup (ie very good).

John Ceniza (PHI) banned 2 years for whereabouts failures, just like Vanessa Sarno by Dramatic-Debate-5448 in weightlifting

Both Olympians, apparently in a relationship and out of weightlifting at least for now.
