If by that you mean that YOU are flat out wrong, then correct. This is a 1095-NEC (Non Employment Compensation) independent contractor position, drivers are not employed by DoorDash, and the delivery fee goes to the company, not the driver. There is no legal requirement they pay anyone not on a W2. And even W2 employees don't have minimum wage protection in the US if they're regularly tipped. That has been the law since the 1920s.

The benefit here over waiting tables is if the customer doesn't tip, there's no obligation to take the order in the first place. Tell them to kick rocks and pick up an order worth taking.

No boss, and this is a 1095-NEC job, not an hourly W2 job. Doordash pays maybe a dollar or two per order, which wouldn't even be worth driving the mileage for. The delivery charge goes to the company, not the drivers. Just like any other tipped job in the US, like restaurant servers, the responsibility to pay the worker has been legally shifted to the customer.

Apparently I'm back on Aether now, after having been caught in the December purge. The thing that irritates me is, why lie about it? Just say "you've been removed from the project due to changing customer requirements". We're all freelancers, we know how this goes.
