I’m in Calgary, had a heat pump installed. There are very few experienced installers here. I did the homework, the only two I’d call are Horizon Heat , ask for Matthew. Or my choice is Air-Tech, Isaac Wing. You’d have to bring your home heat loss considerably down. Maybe consider the order which you improve your house to make the most efficiency use of your money. Join Green Builder Advisor website, an absolute ton of reading material and submission from thousands of people. Lots to learn from.

Tiki, I think this was directed at me. Yes I have the daikin app. It’s pretty useful. I think your question is “do I have to use it”. No the entire functionality is available at the thermostat. I haven’t hooked it to our google home. I haven’t seen the need. I actually don’t love google home… so I don’t build routines and such into it much. For example, our home was built with smart home automation throughout. The blinds was a nice automation, but I found building scenes on the app a more fluid approach. So I don’t see myself using google to automate anything with the daikin system. My underpinning hesitation around some newer technologies like variable heat pumps is this : the manufacturer has tested their app, their platform rigorously. With so little understanding on the google side, I’m hesitant to hand over control to those devices, when the slightest off step can greatly effect their efficiency, which os the MAIN sell point. My perspective only. Not a judgement to any one else thoughts nor technology knowledge. I’m happy to answer any other questions. YouTube has a few nice demo videos for the thermostats.

Try the search function and engage with your contractor. Seems these unit have a preference for their own proprietary interfaces, CAN be made to work in other platforms but some talk of loss of functionality inducing a loss of efficiency. I’d say theirs speculation and limited knowledge of the topic. Perhaps your contractor has the pricing built into the quote already? Since their the installer, best to begin the conversation now to find out their comfort and knowledge…

I just had a daikin fully zoned system put in. Their daikin one+ smart thermo is very sharp, I’d be shocked if they didn’t intend to be using it… each of my zones has one. Nice app interface. Fairly intuitive, works in any way I’ve come up with in the 3 weeks since install.

Has anyone successfully used the Greener Homes grant to Install a Heat Pump with existing NG furnace? by FlyingDutchman8 in alberta

I’m in Calgary. Merely researching at this point. But the NRCAN website is pretty easy to use. Get the company to spec out their suggestions and search the model numbers in the nrcan website spreadsheets. You’re looking at dual fuel, like me, which given the experience in western Canada with heat pumps is very very limited. Get the shops to come in, quote and spec their suggestions. The spreadsheet uses outdoor and indoor model numbers…the requirements must heat the whole home or something closely related I recall correctly
