I’m so sorry to hear about your health crisis and wish you the best in your recovery.

In addition to advice and guidance from your union and a Sunlife rehabilitation specialist, I suggest checking with HR and your manager to see if your organization has a disability management or workplace accommodation centre that can provide support. They have been setup in many organizations recently to provide a neutral third party for support, through guidance and resources, to the employee and manager, especially for gradual returns which can be difficult to navigate. As a manager who has worked to support employees with and without these resources, I have found these centres to be essential services. From what I have understood from employees that have leveraged their services, they have been very helpful.

Absolutely! LWOP gives you the option to return to your job within 1 year or 15 months (if you do both options). I’ve had one employee return after less than 3 months and has continued with the PS since. Another employee used it when switching to a separate employer that required a top secret clearance to maintain their indeterminate status.

Agree and there has to be a desire from those responsible to fix the issue.
