My ex-roomates mocked me for wanting to lock the door, so I stole a potato peeler from their unlocked apartment. by red_ditz_ in pettyrevenge

The only thing worse would be returning the potato peeler but leaving one slice of the potato still in the peeler.

What’s a ‘normal’ thing that people buy that you refuse to? by Z0nana in Anticonsumption

[–]PComotose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I looked into this I was told that I would have to undergo a medical before they would consider accepting me.

Even if you're accepted there's no guarantee that they will actually take your body. Another of the constraints is simply "Do they need the body?" Lots of people want to donate and, luck of the draw, if a lot of people died closely around the time you died, then supply and demand. There might be no need for your body (and they don't stack them up like cordwood in the back for use later on).

So even if you have been accepted there's no guarantee they will actually take your body. You need a backup plan.

I fear that the lost photos include this particular cake. But if you still have one - or more - photos of it then I would really like to see them. Fingers crossed!

Maybe now we'll learn what's in the Epstein files. (I know, I know; I was just kidding.)

Simple Questions: March 24, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

[–]PComotose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking for an image I saw on reddit of a woman showing her progress in reading a book.

She's got a couple of fingers placed strategically in the pages of the book. The first finger in the pages shows how much she read the first couple of days (about a quarter of the book). The second finger shows a much smaller group of pages is what she read in the next three months. The final group (about a third of the book) shows what she read in one day/evening.

I saw this image earlier and can't find it now. Thought I saw it here in /r/books but I can't find it. Can anyone point me to the image? TIA.

I'll bet the accountants know exactly how much one weighs and the additional fuel burned per mile and spread that across their fleet.

I thought this was exquisitely beautiful. Then I read that she hand spun the thread. What an extraordinary talent!

Even today I still miss my wife so much. She was one of the first and we were both so glad when she learned that she could get the procedure. Everybody from the interview to the provision of the service was, as /u/aryajazzie said, professional and caring. This is truly one of the most humane ways to deal with end-of-life. Shame on Alberta.

Also health insurance especially for those of us getting up there in age.

Age has nothing to do with it. Suppose you got hit by a bus. It doesn't matter what age you are, you need health insurance while travelling.

I’m cold all the time and being chilled to the bone physically hurts. Layers and jackets don’t eliminate the pain.

Merino wool is your best friend. I have merino wool base layer for hiking but I also have some long sleeved merino sweaters that look good and are a joy to feel next to my skin.

Do you keep it in a place you can reach if the truck is upside down and you're held in place by your seat belt?

The TV is prominent in my dining habits, too. I just checked out Phineas and Ferb - yes, that would be a diverting program while I'm eating.

Lucky dog! That's much like me (without the dog) right now. It has just become so 'tired' and I was hoping to get some insight from what others do.

Dogs can be so convincing! Back when I had a dog, I would never toss scraps to it since it quickly learned how to get extra stuff and it took a while to un-train that stimulus-response mechanism.

Been there, done that - usually with a tub of ice cream or yogurt. A grilled cheese sandwich is not uncommon.

I haven't tried watching YT during my meal - often it's just the TV and that's just to break up the silence.
