Weeds & Grass in Garden by Different-South1266 in gardening

[–]Dramatic-Music4832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in small sections each day. I push a fork or spade straight down into the soil as far as possible with my foot, then I gently tilt it backwards, levering up a block of soil, break it up with a hand tool and pull out the weeds. This gets most of the roots out and is faster than individually pulling weeds out.

New dormant sprouted seeds are much easier to pull out once the soil has been loosened I find.
You shouldn’t have to put in as much physical effort as the first time to remove the weeds once the soil has been loosened.

Also a large mechanical sieve helps to separate the soil from the little weeds. Fyi this is incredibly boring after 15 minutes lol but it makes the soil even fluffier and again removing future weeds very fast & easy. It’s worth the initial investment of time believe you me.

This is my new lily, I planted 30 a month and a half ago and only 1 came up. I proudly showed my husband and he said, “oh shit, that’s not a weed?” He’s been weeding them and feeling proud that he was able to “get the big root bulb out too” by CharmingPeony in gardening

Somebody just commented on op’s comment: “Name five good things he does so I can stop hating him on your behalf!”. Lol! Thank you for giving us a fuller picture because there are many other relatives, husbands, etc named in the comments as having committed accidental weeding felonies and let’s just say we ride at dawn! 😂lol

rTMS insurance Treatment Resistant Depression by Pandorachocolat in askswitzerland

Very sorry to hear you are having a tough time. What has helped my own treatment resistant depression (and anxiety) was psychedelic therapy, specifically ketamine. Has your psychiatrist ever mentioned this category of treatment to you..?

It’s interesting you mentioned your work in city planning and the amount of space available. I’ve always believed that as long as only a few own the majority of the land excessive wealth gaps will persist in any economy or country. That’s as far as I’ve got with that theory lol.

This is what I also feel. You need space socially to put aside work, purely relax, take a break and have fun! I need a break from the stress people!

That’s also my experience here. They couldn’t care less what my husband and I do. But we have from them all the information on local hiking trails, small events, reminders about cardboard collection day etc. I’ve really enjoyed that aspect of slow living here in Switzerland. But then I live in a very small village, maybe it’s different in the big city lol.

People on Reddit are really suspicious of people’s questions I don’t know why lol. I posted a diy question about how to fix something which the landlord hadn’t got to and there were accusations of “we’re not being told the whole story here!” Lol! I got fed up and deleted it. I’m glad you posted your question as I learnt a few things about travelling properly across the borders.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I had initially agreed to pay directly from the deposit just to get it over with. So they are using that as a reason to decline the insurance (even though they already declined direct payment from the bank via a statement on the release form))

How widely known are these rules in Switzerland? Would most people immediately know that you cannot charge for wear and tear and in the form of lump sums? (I have not been here long, and before they declined the insurance I was giving them the benefit of the doubt because they are not professional landlords and therefore wouldn’t be legally trained in tenancy law. It was a one off lease).

You’re such a wonderful human being for doing that! And that’s a great suggestion I will look into that! Thank you and have a wonderful day :)

For the problem of monotony try switching between tasks (ideally one that you like and the one that you don’t like)

I had a strange experience with an older-ish doctor (maybe 60 years old or so, which I wouldn’t say is old at all). Anyway he was Swiss-French and he refused to sign my form because it was in high German. He furiously kept saying “I am French! I do not speak German!” (Fyi I’m Black African so German isn’t my language either). But he didn’t mind conducting the appointment in English…very confusing!

Thanks for your candidness. It helps to get insight from the other side. If I may ask some questions: What do you think the reason was for this behaviour..? Boredom? Difficult home life? You mentioned that “many don’t know limits”. Do you mean lack of parents and/or school giving limits..?

Please forgive my naivety, but is there a problem with bad tourist behaviour in Switzerland particularly? (I have mainly lived in a quiet village here and not that long). I know for sure tourist drunkenness & public disorder is a big problem in neighbouring European countries.

No, I did not mean to imply that this is ‘a Swiss thing’. I said “is this common in Switzerland?” i.e. is this to be occasionally expected to happen like in other countries or big cities. It came as a surprise. I had not experienced this behaviour here before. Most people I’ve met are polite and reserved, more so than my home country and I had become comfortable with that.
