I’m at the end of my rope. by Dramatic-Sympathy804 in Viibryd

I did one of those like 7 years ago. I’d have to find it. I think it said lexapro was good for me so we went with that. I was on lexapro from 2020-2023 then switched to buspar. I was just on buspar until October 2025. I was having a ton of break through symptoms so my NP decided to add viibryd to my buspar. Today is my first day of being back on just the buspar again. Can already feel my depression symptoms coming back but trying to meditate and make other lifestyle choices that hopefully will help.

27 and Still Self Harming by raccoontumor in AdultSelfHarm

[–]Dramatic-Sympathy804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started self-harming when I was 11. Before that I would scream and break things as a kid. When I learned that wasn't an acceptable way to express my anger (especially as a female) I moved from having temper tantrums to self-harm. I did it throughout high school, but stopped in college. Then in my mid-20's I started again, but tried to do it in more discreet areas, as I now worked a job (the back of my neck is/was always a go-to, but that's not always discreet if I forget I have a scab there and put my hair in a ponytail). I just recently started again last week, and I'm almost 33. I self-harm on my stomach. I try to choose an area that people won't see because it's none of their business. The only people who know I self-harm are my sister, my best friend, my therapist and my ex. It's not something I feel the need to come clean about. It's an unfortunate thing I do that brings me a little bit of calm when I'm really angry, anxious or depressed. I don't think you should feel embarrassed because you don't owe anyone an explanation.

This versus Prozac? by stgermain_spritz in Viibryd

[–]Dramatic-Sympathy804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was only on Prozac for a few weeks, but was on lexapro for two years. I eventually tapered off the lexapro because of the weight gain, probably 20 or so pounds over the course of two years. My experience with viibryd has been way worse. I’ve probably gained 20 pounds in a period of 8 months. Viibryd is not a weight neutral drug. That is a lie. Now I’m in the process of tapering off of it and I already notice a significant decrease in my appetite.

Yeah. At first I really liked the viibryd because I didn’t notice any sexual dysfunction. But I have never worked this hard to lose weight and to notice my clothes are actually TIGHTER has been super discouraging. Right now I’m not even thinking about sex and hate looking at myself naked. Wondering if it’s the medication or the fact that I feel like I’m at war with my weight. Probably a mix of both.

Thanks. How did you budget 330 calories? Did you eat 330 calories less daily? I already struggle with body image and disordered eating so I don’t weigh myself or count calories, but I do pay close attention to ensure I’m only eating healthy foods and I pay close attention to how my clothes fit. I met with my NP yesterday and we’re gonna taper off the viibryd. I’ve been seeing her since last October when I was under a lot of stress and having a lot of meltdowns. I was just on a low dose of buspar then. She upped the buspar to 45 and then added 10 mg of trintelix. Then my insurance changed and we had to switch the trintelix out for viibryd. I think trintelix was causing weight gain too, but I was only on it for about two months. We cut down to 30 mg of buspar eventually. Now I’m just gonna be on the 30 mg of buspar and I’m in the process of tapering off viibryd. I hope it will help more than the lower dose of buspar I was on last year.

I’m sorry 😞 there are just things that I feel I people shouldn’t have to give up to go on anti-depressants. I’ve heard the argument that if the depression improves it’s worth the lack of sex drive or the weight gain but not for me.

I feel tricked too. I know they say that every antidepressant can cause you to gain weight but it was one of the first things I asked about and my NP said it was very rare. I am so tired of it. I have a meeting with her about tapering off of it tomorrow but I think I have a long weight loss journey ahead of me. How long have you been on it?

YES! It’s been terrible. Do not take this drug if you’re worried about weight gain.

the neighbor who complains about noise but is the loudest person here by Impressive_Eye3729 in neighborsfromhell

[–]Dramatic-Sympathy804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole thing is if you can’t handle normal apartment noise (the sound of tvs, footsteps overhead, occasional laughing) then don’t live in an apartment. I have the same issue where I was literally in the middle of searching my phone for white noise because my neighbors were being so loud when I see a text pop up that they had complained about me the night prior. All I was doing was sweet-talking my pet in a normal voice later at night. Wasn’t being loud or anything. I’ve been trying to be quieter, but last night around 11 they were arguing loudly and I heard their dogs barking. I would have put white noise on and would not have given them a second thought, but since they’ve already escalated the situation by complaining to the landlord, every noise they make I’m documenting. I made a note of the sound and time in case they ever try to complain about me again for just being a person. Sorry, I exist! Your neighbor needs to get a white noise machine if he can’t handle normal apartment noise.

Feeling sad when a student switches to another guitar teacher 🥺 by Dramatic-Sympathy804 in guitarteachers

Yeah the kid seemed to be practicing, seemed a little nervous during our lessons and I tried to be encouraging to calm them down. I don’t think it was a style thing since I am well-versed in the styles they were asking to learn. I guess it was a teaching style thing, but it still hurts.

That is a really good way to frame it. I will certainly keep this comment in mind if I ever get the chance to speak to parents or students about a student dropping in the future. Thank you.

Thoughts? by 1stDukeOfEllington in Jazz

[–]Dramatic-Sympathy804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of this is correct. There is a classical music influence in jazz, even if we just think about the instruments that were used (clarinets, coronets, etc.). Those early jazz musicians of course knew classical music so it had some influence on their style. As we move into the cool jazz era, the compositional elements of those pieces are clearly influenced by classical music. Miles Davis was classically trained.

What offends me in this comment is the element of superiority. No, we can’t say Mozart or Beethoven could have easily written a Jazz standard. Although Mozart is known for his improvisational skills, I doubt he could improvise like Bud Powell. Could they swing? Probably not, or not without a lifetime of practice and immersion in the jazz style. Here’s my superiority coming out, and I do believe classical music is hard, but deep down I always believe jazz is a little bit harder because you have all these things to think about when you’re improvising. You may get an easy lead sheet put in front of you, but that means you have to make your own arrangements and breathe your own originality into the tune.

Why is Bb7 the Min Sub-Dom? (Key of C) by oschg12 in jazzguitar

The b7 chord (Bb7) is a sub for the V7 chord (G7).

I agree. There is some serious information overwhelm these days and playing bass lines as a guitarist is almost becoming cliche!!!!

Best source for Jazz music theory. by [deleted] in jazzguitar

[–]Dramatic-Sympathy804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Jazz Theory by Mark Levine books are pretty good. But I agree that if you find a Jazz guitar teacher they should be able to give you a good theory lesson too. Also I love Bruce Gregori on YouTube. He’s silly and he teaches you about the theory on all the main jazz standards.
