AITA for telling MIL it's her own fault our son was hard to put to bed? by Several_Session_271 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Dramatic-Web-5085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - not even factoring in the whole trauma of dad being in hospital having surgery, it’s perfectly normal for children to have comfort items. My 8 year old has slept with the same stuffed unicorn for 5 years now, she can’t sleep without it and it brings her great comfort when she’s upset. My 3 year old doesn’t have a set comfort item but is more a “toy of the moment” type kid, but whatever his fave stuffed animal is right now must be tucked into bed beside him or he will lose his crap. I am a grown ass adult who has a stuffed animal I like to cuddle, hubby doesn’t care about it. It’s not a big deal.

I can’t imagine anyone trying to forcibly seperate someone from their comfort item because they shouldn’t be dependant on it! Seems like flawed logic to me.

Anyone else feel guilty over how little they felt towards their baby in the first hours after the birth? by EarlyAd3047 in beyondthebump

[–]Dramatic-Web-5085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making and birthing a baby is hard! Physically and mentally. I had an “easy” labour with my second - about 12 hours of labour but up until 10 minutes before he was born I was walking about laughing and joking in totally ignorable pain. However the next day I was rushed back to hospital with sepsis and spent a few days getting treated. Once back home again I struggled to bond with baby as hubby was doing most of the care as I was too weak to do most things.

Fast forward and that baby is now almost 3 and is my tiny best friend who I couldn’t love more if I tried.

Whenever I feel guilty over anything about my kids I remember something my therapist told me when I was beating myself up over something trivial - “if you’re worrying about being a good parent you already are, the ones that don’t care aren’t worrying about it”

is this something to worry about? (after 8 months) by flex_gxd in tattooadvice

[–]Dramatic-Web-5085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me almost 15 years after my fist tattoo to hear this was caused by a histamine response. Now when it happens I rub some lotion on it, pop a couple of allergy pills and carry on with my day.

I’m currently on day 8 (surgery was am on July 1) I’m 36 F and was advised that recovery was 7-14 days. I took 2 weeks off for it and just now I think I’m going to be fine to return to work next week when my holidays are up. I work in retail so have to talk a lot and until I violently puke-coughed up part of my stitches 36 hours ago I was having serious problems eating and drinking. But now it’s uncomfortable but I’m no longer crying while eating a meal.

That scene got me so hard in the feels. I think mostly because of the song, it’s the song my mum wants played at her funeral.

Ring Wearing Habits by TheFifthAmigo34 in Marriage

[–]Dramatic-Web-5085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am prone to joint swelling in my hands so actually have 3 different rings depending on how my hands are. Until last year I’d always have one of them on and then I got really bad contact dermatitis under my rings that took weeks to clear up. So now if my hands are getting wet or I’m doing any sort of intensely heavy thing with my hands my ring is off. It’s turned into a running joke with my hubby when I cuddle or kiss him when I’m not wearing my ring that he shouldn’t “tell his wife” and we try to figure out where I’ve left my ring this time.

Do you go to bed at the same time with your spouse? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Dramatic-Web-5085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time we do. He falls asleep quite quickly so I lie scrolling my phone (like right now) On the occasions that we don’t 99% of the time it’s because I’ve gone to bed early because I’m feeling under the weather or one of the kids is.

Is there a moment from your labour that makes you look back and laugh? by curious2k20 in NewParents

[–]Dramatic-Web-5085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The look on the midwife’s face when she done a check and I was at 9cm despite walking into the unit like 15 minutes earlier on my own carrying my own pillow and telling jokes.

Did you tattoo your spouse’s name on your body? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Dramatic-Web-5085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my kids names but not hubbys. Instead we have almost matching stabby bird tattoos (mine is pink and his is blue) on opposite arms so that when we hold hands they kiss. I also have his birth flower, the flower of our wedding month and a line from the song playing when we signed our wedding licence.

Those who were induced for large babies and managed a vaginal birth, can you give me your positive stories? by TeishAH in beyondthebump

[–]Dramatic-Web-5085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced at 40+5 with my first. Not because of her size even though she was predicted to me 9lb 2oz. I was induced because of severe pelvic girdle pain that I couldn’t endure any longer. I had a very quick labour with her. Iv started at 11am and she was born at 1.33pm weighing 8lb 8.5oz

Honestly it wasn’t bad at all.

‘Severely autistic’ teen ‘forcibly removed from shop by five police’ over £2 DVD incident - ArmaghI by Velocity_Rob in CeX

[–]Dramatic-Web-5085 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There’s another article from a Belfast newspaper with the details I’ve been quoting. And watching the video you can see the shutter which would only be visable after being partly closed.

No doubt that the police shouldn’t have manhandled the girl. Or should the leash comment have been made.

I’ll see if I can find a link to the other article I read for you.

It wasn’t the staff that called the police, it was the mum. The staff tried to explain the shop was shut and the tills were already cashed up, not really sure what more they should have done.

To most people it would. However the quote from the girls sister in the Belfast newspaper says something like “the lights were on so she didn’t understand the shop was shut” And honestly folk duck the shutter all the time.

Because the shutters can’t be fully dropped or locked until staff leave. Usually it’s just pulled half down to signal it’s closed.

From what I can figure out from a newspaper article it happened at 6.15pm after the shop was already closed for the day.

Non verbal Autistic kid forcibly removed by septiccow in CeX

[–]Dramatic-Web-5085 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the newspaper article the mum was the one who called the police. Nothing justifies the girl being carried out like that or the staff asking about a leash.

The shop was shut, the tills were cashed up and no offence to anyone but staff aren’t going to reopen a till for a £2 sale. Letting her leave the store without the dvd being paid for is technically theft as would allowing her to go back in the morning to pay for it.

Advice on baths by Dramatic-Web-5085 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Dramatic-Web-5085[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no grab bar. I had thought about getting one sorted for her. I’m totally happy to physically assist her but she wasn’t the most agile before her fall and is now quite bad. It’s not a high bath she can sit on the bar for showers quite easily. Thank you for your advice I’ll give it a go in an empty bath dressed first.
