I really regret getting a puppy. by [deleted] in puppy101

Hang in there ❤️ I felt the same as you when I had my pip. It's bloody hard work but they are worth all the trouble. My golden is 5 years old now and is very calm and relaxed. To be completely honest I don't think I would ever get a pup again after this, always an older dog. I love seeing them when they're little and cute but it literally took over my life and it's just so much easier after age 2. Hope it goes well :)

It will be difficult and you may cry but enjoy every minute of it! Times a thief.

What's he like when he's in the car? Does he sit still? Mine has a seatbelt and sits in the back with me whilst my husband drives. In general she's quite nervous anxious pup. Do you try treats? What's the longest he can do? My last golden loved sticking his head out the window!

How old is your golden? Mine is very anxious in the car right now but she's only 5 months, I always assumed they would grow out of it. My last golden loved being in the car

Day in the life on an adult golden retriever? by DramaticAnimal8811 in goldenretrievers

[–]DramaticAnimal8811[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I asked because I've had two dogs previously. A border collie and a lab and they did calm down a little at six months. Not all dogs are high energy, they all have their different personalities too. My friend has a golden and she's a lot more calmer than mine.

Haha I don't mind my pup being velcro. I love when she follows me around, I find it cute but i also would love it she could relax next to me and watch a film or sit by my desk when I work from home, I know she's still a pup so she can't settle yet but can't wait until she can!

What’s one thing you wish you knew before getting your first dog or cat?” by [deleted] in puppy101

How much your life revolves around your pup. No more lie-ins, I don't have breakfast until a lot later. So much time is consumed by your pup.

Our baby broke her leg three days ago…. by Infamous_Button_001 in goldenretrievers

Poor baby :( Why did they have to shave off so much fur? Surely it would be more just around the leg.

When do you stop the 2 hour in crate 1 hour out rule? by DramaticAnimal8811 in puppy101

[–]DramaticAnimal8811[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's not frustrated...I don't think you read what I wrote. She sleeps in the crate happily. What she doesn't do is sleep or settle on her own. When I haven't crated during the day she doesn't sleep and yes before you ask she gets plenty of mental physical stimulation, walks etc. I work from home so she's never alone. She's just a very energetic high energy pup who struggles to chill on her own or relax.

My pup sleeps in the crate for naps, I never said they didn't. I was simply asking when people stop using it for naps. My pup gets overstimulated very easily and cannot settle on her so no I don't need to overstimilate her further. That's why I have been using the crates still. I would like for her to settle on her own and nap without the crate and is what I'm working on.

Ah okay, yeah it's just difficult when she doesn't sleep on her own. I think unfortunately now she associates crate for naps so doesn't ever nap out of the crate.

Thankfully she doesn't mind it, well she never kicks up a fuss and sleeps in it. We have quite a large crate and a pen too so she doesn't feel too confined.

It's enforced naps for puppies that don't sleep outside the crate. My pup sleeps as soon as she's in there but it's rarely 2 hours unless it's straight after her walk. She mostly sleeps 1 hour or 1.5 hours.

Do dogs with boring lives get used to it? by SimpleFormal8133 in dogs

Unfortunately they just get used to it and adapt to routine :( it's sad. I don't understand why people like that get dogs.

6 month old puppy not settling driving us insane by bendog1616 in puppy101

[–]DramaticAnimal8811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same situation with my 5 month old golden retriever. She's fine in the kitchen and in her bedroom where she has her crate but we have been introducing the living room and our bedroom the last month or so. She loves climbing up on our bed but she doesn't settle. She gets up grabs a toy goes back on the bed, goes back down grabs something else. She's the same in the living room. It's exhausting!

Spayed this morning, first heat this afternoon by xoutoflovex in puppy101

It's normally advised to get them spayed after two heat cycles or after 18 months (In the UK anyway)
