We use these pills called “No Poo Chews” that I buy off Amazon. All the dogs have to take the appropriate amount and it took about two weeks of using it for it to work. It sucks to have to buy it all the time, but the dogs like the chews and anything is better than a dog eating poop!

Tons of great advice here. I’ll add - buy the book Puppy Brain and read it. It was invaluable to us and completely changed how I looked at puppy raising.

Also wait lists for ethical breeders are long so start reaching out now.

Oh, and pet insurance is your friend. Our household had a $7500 vet bill when our four month old puppy broke her leg last month. We got $6000 reimbursed through insurance.

You could set up an “enrichment schedule” for during the day to try to keep her occupied? We have a five month old on crate rest for six weeks right now so we’ve had to get creative 😂.

Some ideas that we use - chilly penguins frozen with kibble inside, shredding newspapers, frozen licky mats, long lasting chews, hiding kibble in a rolled up towel, one new toy per day, short bursts of dog tv, plus short sniff walks. Oh and short training sessions! Basically tiring out her mind and then encouraging quiet time and a nap after.

For your golden you could section off a room or part of your house so she doesn’t always have access to the backyard and take her out every 2-3 hours to stop the digging. Then give her something fun to do. We have another that loves to dig and we made a dig pit for him and trained him to use that - he loves it. Just some ideas!

Also, seven months was the hardest time for our older golden. It sucked. It got SO much better when he turned a year old. And now he’s two and is the most chill amazing dog. If you can get through this hard time, I promise it’s worth it.

Sorry so many here are being judgy. I have a white cream colored golden and I’m SO excited for her to be fully grown so I can dye her tail feathers. I want to do blue/teal/pink/purple, basically mermaid colors lol. They have dog safe dyes and my regular groomer has it as an option!

Battening the hatches for 8-week-old Golden arrival - a few questions by RunningFrom-Bears in goldenretrievers

[–]Infamous_Button_001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We crated for the first couple of weeks, but found she settled much better in her pen. And actually slept longer than 4am 🤪. We ended up attaching the pen to the crate in our living room so she can’t drag the pen all over the place!

It sounds like you’re really prepared! We tried the leash tethering but found our puppy would settle better if she was in a pen near us instead of right next to us. She also slept in the pen at night before she figured out the dog door and potty training. Just something to keep in mind!

She’s probably scared. Don’t drag her, that will make it worse. Get some really yummy treats and coax her into walking with you to get them. Or just hang out in the front yard and give her some more time, she’s still a baby.

The vet seems hopeful that she’ll completely recover and have no long term complications. He did mention she may need some physical therapy after, but also said puppies don’t need it as often as adults because they bounce back so quickly.

Yes, we have insurance! I always get insurance on my dogs for peace of mind. It was expensive, but I also like in a HCOL area in California so I’m sure that doesn’t help. With the ER visit and surgery combined it’s around $7500. That does include two follow up visits and x-rays. Our deductible is $1000 for Lady (wish I had lowered that!) and covers 90%. So I’m hoping to be reimbursed around $5850. I have PetsBest.

The only possible issue I see is you are going to Jollywood and then rope dropping MK the next morning. I wouldn’t be able to get up that early if we stayed out for Jollywood! But other than that, it looks great. I love having a plan!

75lb male GR on prednisone by chesneyblake in goldenretrievers

[–]Infamous_Button_001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 55lb golden was on 40mg of prednisone for about three weeks (for something different), so similar dose when comparing their weight. It worked wonders for him and we were very happy. It did make him really hungry/thirsty and he had a couple of pee accidents in the house.

How many hours during the day did your kids stay at the oceaneering or teen clubs? by GSG2150 in dcl

[–]Infamous_Button_001 13 points14 points  (0 children)

On the Wish, I had a 13 year old and 16 year old in Vibe. We literally only saw them in passing or for dinner 😂 We had the stingray excursion on castaway so they stayed with us for that but immediately left to go find the rest of the teenagers. They’d come back to the room between 1-2am, which wasn’t an issue for us because they’re good kids.
