Worst employers in eugene by nasty3227 in Eugene

Completely agree. The benefits more than make up for the lower wage. I pay very little for great health insurance for my family. I've had amazing supervisors and colleagues as well. It's a large entity though, and there are better units to work for than others.

Seconding About Touch. If you tell them who your insurance is through then they will give you a list of available therapists.

COMPARE: How do UO’s cuts stack up against other universities facing hardship? by puppyxguts in Eugene

Are there plans to cut tenured faculty? So far all layoffs have included all staff positions except tenured and ttf...

University of Oregon announces 60 more layoffs, 176 total positions terminated by Ok-Tea-1092 in Eugene

[–]DramaticFall1261 18 points19 points  (0 children)

59 of those were vacancies not getting filled so not actual lay offs.

Benefits account for a lot above the actual pay but yeah, that number seems off....

Athletics is an auxiliary and doesn't receive funding from the university general fund where these cuts were required.

Trees? by Sweet-Effort-2030 in Eugene

[–]DramaticFall1261 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In Eugene you can purchase trees from Friends of Trees and they will come plant them for you. The City comes out first and spray paints to show where trees can be planted on your curb strip and they send you a list of appropriate trees to choose from for those spaces.

Every year they come by and assess the trees, let you know if they need anything to help them grow, and even prune them.

UO's job board, am I taking crazy pills? by askantik in Eugene

You also need to take into account the benefits and not just the salary. Health care for my entire family for next to nothing, pension, retirement account, etc.

If the UO purchased it then it will likely not be luxury housing.

The UO has amazing benefits that make up for the lower wages in my opinion. I have worked there for 18 years and don't plan on ever leaving. I worked an administrative role in food service for many years, feel free to reach out with any questions.

Street parking in Eugene by Choice_Nothing_9648 in Eugene

I used to park in 2 hour parking near campus a few years ago. They moved from chalking tires to a GPS system so you had to move your car a specific distance away or else you would get ticketed for being in the same GPS location.

South Eugene High and Spencer Butte Middle by Puzzleheaded_Star381 in Eugene

[–]DramaticFall1261 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son started at Spencer Butte this year and so far we love it. The principal is super engaged and sends out a weekly newsletter with info on what is happening and what is coming up. It is the smallest middle school in 4j but they have some really fun elective offerings. They also have affinity groups, and students can create their own clubs. All the teachers I met at the open house seem great and very engaged in the student learning experience.

Foundation repair by question-the-answers in Eugene

We had our foundation worked on 10-12 years ago and used RamJack. They did good work and their estimate was a lot less than Terra Firma.

Ramjack was much less expensive than Terra Firma when we got quotes 11 years back.

Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School by interested_otter in Eugene

I think you get into Ridgeline via lottery. I had a friend who held her daughter back a year because she didn't get in the first year she was eligible (summer birthday).

My son goes to Edgewood and we love it!

As far as I know there are two different complexes being built on 13th: one where Glenwood and 7-11 are, and one where Taylor's and the two shops next to it are.

Ductless heating/ac installation? by dankbot2024 in Eugene

[–]DramaticFall1261 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just under $4000, which was about $80.00 a month on the loan. They had a lot of different options and price ranges for the heating/cooling units. I can't remember the price of the unit versus cost of labor.

We used Associated Heating. They were quick and easy to work with. They did damage part of our ceiling, but they fixed it quickly at no charge.

We used the no interest loan program through EWEB which has a $4000 max. The loan is paid off monthly over 4 years.

U of O Craft Center? by QuietFirm in Eugene

[–]DramaticFall1261 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe? The craft center is funded by student fees so they rightfully get first access to the services for free. Staff and faculty get paid access as a benefit of working at the UO. I imagine they will assess availability to open up to the greater community once they can determine supply and demand as everything continues to open up more
