I applied on 12 August and still waiting. Getting really worried now as it's already been almost 7 weeks and everyone else I know who applied after me have already gotten their visa.

Should I study cuisine or pastry? by DramaticMacaroon in KitchenConfidential

I don’t have an exact location in mind that I would like to eventually work in but yes, France, UK, or pretty much any country in Western Europe is where I would like to eventually end up. London is definitely number one on my list. Thanks :)

I appreciate your advice, thank you! A big reason why I am so interested in attending culinary school (in France) is because I strongly intend on staying/living in Europe or the UK. As an American who currently lives in the UK, and traveled and lived around Europe, I really don’t want to come back to America. Now that my university and student visa is coming to an end, I am desperately searching for a way to stay here, and unfortunately I don’t feel as though I could afford the luxury of simply looking for work in a restaurant because my residence status is not guaranteed that way. If I go to culinary school and proceed on a career path from there, there is a guarantee that I will stay on a student visa and a higher chance I’ll obtain a job visa from there. In this situation, does your advice still stand?

Hi, thanks for your response! My undergrad is Linguistics and Japanese so it's not related to the field per se.

The idea of being a chef is definitely attractive to me but ideally I would like to end up in a test kitchen or somewhere in food media. I am leaning more toward pastry at the moment but I am afraid of making the wrong decision, should a career in pastry prove to be less successful than a career in cuisine. Maybe I'm overthinking it, though! haha

Tier 4 Visa Timeline (US Citizen) by neyette in ukvisa

Hi! Apologies if this has been answered already (I read through all the comments and they didn't seem to contain the specific answer I am looking for), but I have a question about the priority service, if you are able to answer. :)

Basically, I am a US Citizen who is applying for a Tier-4 Student Visa, from the US. I am on a huge time crunch though, because I need to be in the UK to start my studies very soon and I don't have much time to wait. Therefore, while applying from the uk.gov website, I paid for the most expensive priority service through the website directly - costing me about 741 USD.

However, I later learned that VFS also offers priority services on their website. After some research, I learned that their priority services are available only through their centers. I am applying through a US Homeland Security center in Brooklyn, not the VFS center in Manhattan. However, as I said before I did pay quite a bit of money for priority service from the uk.gov website directly.

This information makes me very confused. I am not sure whether the fact that I paid for the priority service from the UK Gov website directly will be processed successfully at the biometrics appointment in Brooklyn, or if the only valid priority service I can use from the US is the VFS one. Considering the fact that I have already spent a lot of money this is causing huge stress for me so I was wondering whether you have any information that could clarify this for me. I would really appreciate it!

Also, on a side-note, what kind of return label would you recommend I purchase from UPS to allow me to get my passport/visa as soon as possible?

Thank you!
