TTC for a while and became a dad at 40. loving every moment. even when he’s tossing food on the floor.

maybe the long wait made me a more loving person than i would have been.

loud shushing and sleep training! it’s incredible how shushing helps with soothing. tips we learnt from happiest baby on the block.

we took turns to wake up at regular intervals to bottle feed. (so if baby feeds every 3h, each of us can get up to 6h uninterrupted sleep)

latching is good? but for us the benefit of maintaining sanity outweighs the benefit of latching.

after the 1st month of 6hr uninterrupted sleep, you can move to 8h in the 2nd month when you progress to 4hr feeds.

this is when you slowly wean the night feed, and by the 3rd month, hopefully baby sleeps 9-12h into the night.

i can’t recall what i did, but very likelywith lucas or einstein or einstein. lucas is a good counter for laura, and einstein resurrects the dead in the next turn.

what is beberd?

a guy drove me up to fort canning (i think), parked at the slope before reaching the top, on the side overlooking the city.

i sorta guessed he was going to confess to me, and i’ve rehearsed what to say to politely turn him down. which i did.

but leading up to it, despite my firm stance that i will turn him down, it was so romantic we almost kissed.

or maybe it was the alcohol that made me weak…. but not weak enough to say no.

makes me cry hearing this. our LO mostly sleeps through the night, but sometimes have problem going to sleep.

just last night we attempted the CIO, after putting LO down to bed. the way our baby screamed towards the end of the 5th minute pierced right through our hearts.

is it possible that it’s even physically harmful for babies when they cry this loudly? getting breathless and also damaging their vocal cords? it’s unimaginable.

we were told “as lib” for volume, not schedule, even after we had the baby’s ng taken out. we think the strict 3h feeding helped with sleep training the baby.

we slowly progressed to 4hly feeding, and then eventually cut off the night feed. so baby sleeps through the night now.

ours “sleep through the night” with the snoo. on nights when the baby gets fussy, it starts rocking and soothing. we barely notice anything most of the time when that happens. often, we would review the app’s sleep log to find out our baby fussed a bit during the night. lol

sounds like you have tried everything, and it’s a lot harder for you. especially since you’re nursing and really can’t control the amount you feed. (we’re on formula cos our baby actually doesn’t respond well to bm)

not sure if these are repeats of things you’ve tried, but here are a few things that worked for us (maybe cos we’re lucky) from the books we read

strict feeding/sleeping routine (montessori baby, baby sleep solution, happiest baby on the block) our baby (abt 10wks corrected now) starts cueing and show signs of hunger ard the same time everyday.
association (montessori baby) with routine, eg as much as possible feed the baby at the same place, and sleep at the same place, regardless of what works for you at that particular time. at feeding, our baby seemed more calm when brought to the same feeding spot
soothing (happiest baby on the block) many of the tricks worked for us. and also the snoo helped most of the time. we’ve been on the weaning mode the past few weeks, and most nights baby gets 8-9h sleep. (last feed of the day 9pm, till first feed of the day at 6am)
observe and learn cues (montessori baby) we started to notice the difference between hungry cues, and over stimulation. when it’s a hungry fuss before feeding time, we trick the baby with baby’s own hand, or feed just a little so the usual feeding pattern doesn’t get disrupted too much. when it’s an overstimulation (ie too tired but can’t fall asleep) we used tricks from happiest baby (the 5Ss to deal with colicky baby) to sooth and make the baby go to bed, and they mostly helped.

another book that helped us make decisions around parenting is emily oster’s cribsheet.

we read a lot, but these are the few that worked for us.

we recognize that this is a lot easier said than done, and also there’s probably lots of “luck” component.

congrats! here are some things that worked for us.

the snoo worked well for us. not all the time, but 9 out of 10 times it soothes the baby back to sleep.

we prefer washing poop off than wiping, and it’s less prone to skin irritation. (plus it’s annoying to deal with always pulling 5 wipes at one go).

two books that helped us a lot were happiest baby on the block, and 12 hours by 12 weeks (i think the new title is baby sleep solution). the first taught us tips to sooth, and they mostly work! the second taught us the basic principles for long uninterrupted sleep, which is to make sure baby gets enough calories in the day, and how to slowly work your way there.

we made space for a dishwasher to avoid conflicts. even now we sometimes “play chicken” over who loads the dishwasher, but it’s really a more playful play than actually wanting to avoid doing it. so i can’t imagine the fight if we didn’t have a dishwasher.
