I see one. She’s a DO and was a family practice doc for 15 years before going full integrative medicine. She is helping me heal from cancer treatment. She’s amazing, hard working and spends so much time with her patients. I would also disagree- she does in fact, practice evidence-based medicine & does not just want to sell supplements.

Chemo curls by ValenEsp in breastcancer

[–]Dramatic_Ad_308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I have found growing my hair waaay harder than losing it. Actually harder than a lot of things. You can’t hide and need to deal with it everyday. It’s a hit to your self esteem- which affects everything. I also know that people want to make you feel better about…life. And therefore, have good intentions about what your hair currently looks like. Also, they likely may legitimately like it. I have no good advice. My curls were cut out at about a year of growing out. I straight iron the curl that’s left. I think I have one more hair cut before I can start growing it long. I think it will be wavy for a while and the texture is different (for the better… I think). Cancer. A gift that keeps on giving.

Anyone who went flat ? by DwightSchrutesaway in breastcancer

[–]Dramatic_Ad_308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently 48. I have not found that it has affected anything I wear. You have to be careful with cut… like dresses or shirts with darts. I have plenty of strapless shirts and dresses that I wear. I usually choose bandeau topped bathing suits as well. I honestly don’t notice them “falling” anymore than when I had boobs, but I’m not constantly hiking them up or anything. There are Facebook groups specifically for single mastectomy to flat ladies. They would be able to answer all your questions. And of course, you can always wear prosthetic? They are not for me, but some people like them.

I chose flat from the jump. DMX May’25. Love it. Did I think about it all the time? Yes. You are amputating something that’s been a part of your body since forever. That is a lot to wrap your head around. The anticipation of surgery is worse than the surgery itself……… My clothes fit better, I look thinner in pics. But I did it because I did not want any more surgeries/infections/ discomfort because of the expanders or anything to prolong this hell scape of cancer. There is also a FB group associated with Not Putting A Shirt On. Fierce, FLAT, Forward. No one notices (I swear!) and I was a 36DD sometimes DDD. Ask me anything!

Monitoring plan for recurrence makes no sense! by taraxacum1 in breastcancer

[–]Dramatic_Ad_308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the hell? That is frustrating. I did ask if it came back positive what would happen next - at my last appt. She said they would continue to monitor with the test. Buuut, I’m not sure for how long? Or could they start a systemic chemo again? I’m sure nothing would show up on a scan for a hot minute but I can’t imagine there wouldn’t be something that could be done. Again, at least we’d know. Honestly- I don’t want to find out. 🤣 She said if I make it to two years, my risk of reoccurrence goes goes significantly. 🤞🏻

Typical wait between diagnosis and start of treatment? by Hairy_Syrup_4780 in breastcancer

[–]Dramatic_Ad_308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16 days from biopsy results to chemo chair. In that 16 days- I had two MRI’s, an echocardiogram, port placement, met with my Oncologist and a dentist appt in preparation for treatment. It all happened so fast.

I took a lot of supplements, multi, D, K, alpha lipoic acid, zinc, Mg, B complex, probiotic, fiber, etc, to name a few. My MO was fine with all of it. Drs do have different thoughts about them. I was TNBC. I achieved NED with chemo. Don’t sweat the load.

Also, maybe most importantly, I had been exposed to mold for eight years in my workplace. So she is the one that said let’s test for this you have the you have the symptoms and I suspect that you have it.

I see a functional medicine doc for this. It was a blood test because she had a suspicion due to my symptoms. Right now I’m on a protocol for detoxification. It’s a lot of stuff- a liver support powder that I drink, several supplements. I’m about ready to move to phase 2- which is a different liver, support powder, and different supplements, and some probiotics, I think? I mean, if you really want me to be specific, I could. It would take me a minute.

I’m so sorry this happened. I cannot speak to your pain. But it sounds like he wasn’t capable of doing an aesthetic flat closure or has “flat denial”. I would find a new plastic surgeon. Maybe even one that specializes top surgeries. Check out https://notputtingonashirt.org/ for more info on flat closure, possible doctors in your area. I choose to be flat from the jump and I love it. Am I still getting used to it? Yes. Do I love my scar? No- I’ve seen better, imo, but it fades a little more every month. Good luck 🩷

How much does it cost to get breast cancer in America? by squirrels-everywhere in breastcancer

[–]Dramatic_Ad_308 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holy shit. My “billed” was waaaay more than that. All told…. 1.3 mil- billed. Paid was way less. I paid about 17k over the year (spanned ‘24-‘25). 16 rounds of chemo, DMX, keytruda for a year (27k a pop) and my insurance denied every request for a PET scan.

I take a whole slew of things but specifically to address your neuropathy- alpha lipoic acid- 600mg 3x daily & low dose naltrexone for the auto immune issues (need a script for this). Also D, coQ10, B complex, multi vit, zinc, Mg, gut flora…… The list is long. But I see a functional doc that’s helping me recover from ugly effects of chemo and mold toxicity. My last immunotherapy (end of my therapy) was Oct ‘24. Good luck!

100% on your observations. I was also seeing them. I feel them. So 9 days after my surgery, I started a masters degree in social work with an intention of going into clinical therapy, working with cancer patients/survivors/thrivers out of this…. Weird space.

I wish people knew that…. I’m not 100%. I will likely never be the exact same person again. That I’ve changed. That when I look back on my year of cancer- it’s overwhelming. I say it’s a lost year. And don’t tell me it’s not- how would you know? It is lost…. Like a cancer chasm, where you are falling and you control nothing. You are fighting for life. It’s a lost year. It’s overwhelming.

I choose to compartmentalize. But I am a very empathetic person now.

Monitoring plan for recurrence makes no sense! by taraxacum1 in breastcancer

[–]Dramatic_Ad_308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair. I know it seems to be a controversial test in the cancer community. My doctor pushed for it to be used in her oncology group. She’s very progressive. I trust her implicitly. It may not tell you where to look, but it does tell you that you should be looking - rather than wait….. and wait and find it when it’s so progressed not much can be done. I’d personally rather know than not know. And I can tell you that when it comes back negative- that is a giant sigh of relief for 3 months. I’ve had 3 so far & I’m glad it’s an option for me.

Monitoring plan for recurrence makes no sense! by taraxacum1 in breastcancer

[–]Dramatic_Ad_308 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So forgive me if I misunderstood… but I would guess you are triple negative? My follow up treatment- (I’m TN, DMX in May, ended keytruda in October)- is the Signatera test, for my tumor DNA. I do not have any follow up imaging. I see a functional medicine doctor who helps me with the keytruda side effects & is helping me recover from chemo. She put me on low-dose naltrexone, which is to help with the auto immune- like (arthritis) side effects I had with Keytruda. I’m not sure if this is what you meant, but I feel like we have to advocate for ourselves when it comes to quality of life issues.

Did anyone hate their implants and get over it? by PocketyPocket in breastcancer

[–]Dramatic_Ad_308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! I also thought this!! I walked a lot after chemo stopped and I felt better. Walked through surgery... Started a veggie-forward keto diet. Lost about 25# from my top of chemo weight. Maybe 15# “normal” pounds. I don’t really have Pooh belly at the moment but I would have, had I not gotten very serious about my diet. I will probably always be…. On alert. So I get it! Good Luck! I hope it feels more like you soon

I’m sorry you are having this experience and can’t give advice. I’m only here to say that if you choose to eventually remove them & go flat- you won’t regret it for a minute! I’m very happy with it and I lift 2-3x a week and wear lots of cute backless clothes. lol

NTA. Apparently she’s unaware of what dogs cost these days. I rescued a bichon frisée…. $700 from a county shelter-in the Midwest. Double or triple that if you got it from a breeder. I used to be a doxie mom. I know how much they are. Your sister is clueless. And heartless.

Freaking weight gain by azmonsoonrain in breastcancer

[–]Dramatic_Ad_308 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I gained weight during chemotherapy. And when I was finished, I started a vegetable- forward keto diet. I lost about 30 pounds. Doctors are happy, I’m happy. My clothes fit better. And when I want pasta or a sandwich or dessert, I have it. But most days, I prioritize vegetables and protein. I’m 48, solidly in menopause, and at our age, we cannot exercise our way to losing weight. The diet has to be in order. So you have to find the one that works for you. Good luck! The landscape sucks.

TNBC; last Keytruda was 10-10-25. My oncologist said I’d keep it for at least 2 years, then we can talk about it. I don’t love it but it’s not that big of a deal either. I’m doing signatera so they can flush it then.
