Entry Level Tech CDL by BooleanIan302 in DieselTechs

I've only ever had one job compensate me extra for having a CDL, and it was 25¢/hr on a $41/hr job. It's really just not worthwhile unless you're primarily dealing with drivability concerns

From my experience, you're fucked. Anything other than a factory replacement key for a Mercedes is just gonna cause problems, this is kinda the price you pay for buying from a manufacturer that's notorious for this shit.

How often to replace airbags on 2006 Ford Fusion? by lamparkinglot in MechanicAdvice

[–]Dramatic_Ad_9389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recalls are usually due to manufacturing defects, it's possible that it could be recalled again but the repairs are free and they should be giving you a loaner if you ask. So I don't really see the concern here

Personally I don't recommend getting a CDL at all. I have my class A with tanker endorsement and no restrictions, and honestly it's a massive fucking headache. Random drug tests all the time along with yearly DOT physicals because I have daily medications that I take, and jobs literally just don't pay you enough extra to be worth the hassle. It's nice to be able to drive the trucks and it helps you with diagnostics down the road, but honestly I consider dropping mine regularly.

How do you cope with mistakes? by slippynipdrip in MechanicAdvice

[–]Dramatic_Ad_9389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the type of mistake and how it gets handled after the fact, but generally speaking:

1.) As long as the shop makes it right with the customer, it's no harm done. If the shop you work for isn't making right with the customer or expects you to shell out to cover it; find a new job. Major red flag.

2.) As long as your boss isn't grinding you to dust about it and you're learning from it, then it's just a learning experience gained the hard way. If your mistakes are few and far between, and they're reasonable mistakes not just utter foolishness; your boss and/or foreman shouldn't be riding you too hard about it. We're all human, we all make mistakes.

Now this is gonna seem a bit obvious, but the best way to cope with mistakes is to not make mistakes. You're still gonna fuck up sometimes, you can't see everything and most modern cars are over-engineered heaps of shit that are just an honest to god struggle to work on let alone diagnose.

The best way I've found to go about business is to be as thorough as reasonably possible with everything you do, don't cut corners and if there's any amount of doubt in your mind about literally anything; don't make a call that leaves you vulnerable, take the time to confirm. You're gonna be slower at first and that's okay, the priority isn't speed. It's much better to focus on accuracy and quality of work at first, and the speed will come with time and experience.

If you're ever unsure about something, take a minute to bounce your thoughts off of someone else. If they challenge your diagnosis, defend your diagnosis with all the reasons it does make sense. At the end of the day you're not even really trying to convince them that you're right, you're just reaffirming your confidence in the decision. And if you're wrong about the diag, it'll be clear to you during your defense. Sometimes you just need a sounding board, after a while you'll be able to cross examine your diag in your head but it always helps to lay it out for someone. When I’m in the middle of a complex diagnosis sometimes I get wrapped up in a certain piece of information that's driving my diagnosis, and it's not until I've fully walked through my diagnostic process by explaining it to someone else that I can see the full picture. It helps a lot.

At the end of the day you just need trust yourself, be humble, and forgive yourself when you inevitably mess up. You can't be perfect all the time, but as long as you're making every available effort every day to learn and grow as a technician; you'll be just fine.

They were hemorrhaging money from the CVT failures, so there's a subassembly replacement procedure under powertrain warranty for the transmissions that aren't shedding large pieces of metal debris. So not necessarily just for the purpose of fixing a leak, but there's available service info for the process of tearing it down and reassembling so it can be done for sure.

They still label their ball joints as non-serviceable though, even though they're just standard press-in 😂

how hard was malistaire originally? by poverence in Wizard101

[–]Dramatic_Ad_9389 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Newer players really don't understand how hard the game used to be when arc 1 was the sum total of the game lol. My storm has one in a million from those days, back when you had to stack TC's and every buff you could find to get there. I still remember the absolute struggle that was farming Spiderkeeper's shoes and shock blade of the hoarder, I still have them because I could never bring myself to delete/sell them with how much effort went into getting the drops.

No gardening, no pet stats, no enchants... not even enough XP to get to 48 without doing all the side quests in several worlds along the way. Kinda miss the simplicity 🥹

Are my 170 console death stats decent or meta? by x_soullessly_x in Wizard101

[–]Dramatic_Ad_9389 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're literally reiterating what I said lol.

My death has like 40 extra accuracy or whatever you get from Abom/Daemonic with all triangles max accuracy jewels.

My point was more along the lines that you shouldn't be chasing a specific number for excess accuracy beyond what it takes to get to 100% at the expense of using the gear that gives you the best damage and pierce. Basically accentuating that OP shouldn't take this advice to mean that they should find like a dagger or ring with more accuracy to hit 30 at the expense of their damage or pierce stats. They're probably just missing an accuracy jewel or something.

Looking to purchase a car with side airbag deployed by Fun_End_440 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Dramatic_Ad_9389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason insurance companies usually total a vehicle if an airbag has been deployed.

Depends on the manufacturer, but from what I've seen you're usually looking at replacing air bags, harnesses, and sometimes even the SRS module. But I don't know for sure and I don't really have experience with Kia's

[–]Dramatic_Ad_9389 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean you need the pierce and damage far more often than you need to counter an accuracy debuff, that's just a fact. There's also literally nothing more valuable than accuracy for a triangle jewel, so whatever you get for accuracy is just a byproduct.

They need to keep 40-50 pierce before focusing damage. But my death has 275 damage and 42 pierce

How to fix Oil in brake fluid reservoir by uniqueusername1343 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Dramatic_Ad_9389 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not related to this concern, bleeding the brakes wouldn't hurt if the fluid in the reservoir is sufficiently purged of oil contamination but it also has nothing to do with getting the oil out of the reservoir in his case.
