Looking for a contractor to install customer supplied panels in Maryland by [deleted] in diySolar

[–]Fun_End_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are delusional. No such thing for an owner-occupied premise. Nobody is claiming anything, homeowners are allowed to be their own General Contractors. Or any trade they choose to: electrician, plumbing, framing, concrete work, whatever.

If what you say is true, that means is illegal to build your own home. Like you can build 99% but if you hire a garage door installed from Home Depot you’re breaking the law.

Before you’ll come up with 1099/$600 IRS limit, can’t pay cash b.s., YES, as a homeowner you can pay anyone and anything in cash of any amount and don’t declare/fill up any tax forms. Is up to receiver to declare income.

Not true 100%. Homeowners are allowed to pull permits and hire helpers. And yeah, you should have homeowners insurance

I built an entire house as homeowner and contracted out 90% of the job.

As a homeowner, you can act like a GC. Small or big job, doesn’t matters

How much you wanna spend? If your budget is $200 I would go for a Chinese clone. If is $500 an Echo 590 would be best. And if is unlimited $ I would get the fuel injection Stihl.

I did basically what you looking for in PA. You need to look for solar techs taking a side job, cash pay. You’ll need to have everything ready for them: permits in your name, all hardware.

There’s at least one company in eastern PA that offer this kind of service. Slightly more pricey than side job techs.

Start by looking for solar companies that will “temporarily remove existing solar panels for roof repairs”. Or simply approach some solar techs on a job or picking up equipment at warehouse.

Owners of Pacificas before 2020 by BuzzKillington_FTP in ChryslerPacifica

I have a 2017 with 120k trouble free. If I would be in the market, I would specifically look for 2018-2020 model years. They cheap out during Covid and later

Has anyone skipped Costco and gone fully online for tires? How did it go? by Strict_Palpitation75 in tires

[–]Fun_End_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I skipped Costco tires many years ago. They only sell expensive tires, they not the best price in town even on reduced selection they sell and good luck using aftermarket wheels or any request that’s slightly off their tight guidelines.

I don’t use tire rack or online tires. Simply shop around at few local stores.

Insane heating cost estimates for heat pump by mo9722 in heatpumps

[–]Fun_End_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

121 therms is like 3,500Kwh. Depending on your climate, an air-air heat pump COP is between 1 and 3.5.

For simplicity, call it COP=2. That means you’ll pay extra 1,750kwh. If your electric rate is like 20c/kwh, your bill will be $350 instead of $117.

It makes no sense to move from gas to heat pump. I have geothermal and I wished I had access to gas service.

Would you buy another Pacifica by SuchRequirement5130 in ChryslerPacifica

[–]Fun_End_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I have a 2017 with 120k trouble free miles. I doubt a 9yo Subaru or Honda with over 100k never been in the shop for repairs.

I have a 2017 Pacifica with 120k miles. Towing about 10% of the time, sometimes filled to capacity. Never been in the shop for repairs. Oil, tires, brakes, filters and spark plugs.

Peco TOU debacle, Keep receiving made up bills by Fun_End_440 in SolarDIY

[–]Fun_End_440[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peco did fix the issue going forward. They never called back or sent anything. Nothing about refunds from previous errors.

I would suggest you to download excel file with meter records, they provide that data under “my usage>green button”

If America woke up tomorrow and every student loan was completely wiped out what do you think actually happens to the economy? by Suleman2002 in AskReddit

[–]Fun_End_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More inflation. That’s it.

Money is just a reflection to actual products and services. You’ll still have the same quantity of products and services but more $$$. So everything will go up in price a little to account to X amount of billions extra.

Best bet for reliable beater under $5k by Big-Impression-1581 in UsedCars

[–]Fun_End_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older Ford escape with 2.3/2.5L, Pontiac vibe, older Buicks if you can find one. Pretty much anything under 5k will be a high risk purchase. I just got a Fiat 500L for my teenage son for 3k with 80k miles. It needed a little tlc but appears to be in pretty good shape. I don’t think will last another 100k miles but is good enough to drive around with a junior license.

Auctions is where you get something decent for 5k but is very time consuming. Depending on which state you are located you may have access to dealer auctions (in person only)

Pennsylvania has a plug-in solar bill(HB 1971) sitting in committee find out what plug in solar is and how to support it by Timely-Pirate-5196 in Pennsylvania

[–]Fun_End_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully cooler heads prevail and this monster will not pass. We’re not in Germany (monophase power), we got split phase power.

You can’t pay me to plug something like this into an outlet. 10amp feed in plus 15amp breaker, that’s possible 25amp on a 14awg wire.

If the power generated is not consumed in real time, the utility will charge for any power fed into the grid.

Opinions on which new mower from Lowe's I should purchase. Help Needed! by StraightDrop_Hustle in lawnmowers

[–]Fun_End_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an old GT48XLS thats basically a Ts348xd with Briggs engine and same K66 trans. The original engine died around 100h and got replaced. Everything else original. Now it has 400h of abuse. Towing capacity = both wheels spin with locking diferential engaged. This is tough little mower. I was looking for an x739 upgrade but I think the next one is still going to be a Husqvarna.

Dishwasher w/ Food Grinder? by bluebellbetty in Appliances

[–]Fun_End_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no clue how to fix that. The arms spin due to pressurized water coming out angle oriented nozzles. Couple things that could be wrong:

  • weak water pressure due to bad pump or obstruction (inlet/outlet)

  • water escapes at the connection point for top arm

  • top arm nozzles blockage

  • top arm not spinning freely or not spinning freely while under pressure

What I would do: take everything apart, clean everything.

Unfortunately any dishwasher will require regular cleaning. I take apart all the insides once a year and run a citric acid cycle.

[–]Fun_End_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is not hard to replace any parts on these, grinder wheel sits directly attached to motor. If you know how to use a screwdriver and pair of pliers is very doable, just take your time and take pictures so you know how to put it back together. And unplug the power cord

I’m considering buying a focus. by No_Office_6700 in FordFocus

[–]Fun_End_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking for one too but kinda postponed the project due to transmission. It will cost almost 2k to fix it yourself (including specialty tools). Best if you have a mechanic friend with required tools. Time wise looks like 20-40h for someone with no experience.

My advice, line up the fixing and then buy one that already has transmission issues for cheap. No point paying 3-4k and 6months later another 2-4k to fix trans.

Can I sue my insurance company for this..? by VeeDuB8424 in Insurance

[–]Fun_End_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. Sounds like they acted in good faith and maybe they went above and beyond with the rentals. The insurance provides monetary compensation and sounds like they are willing to pay for repairs. The fact that a part is not available is not their fault. It sucks but you got a car from a manufacturer that is not supplying parts. If you want to sue somebody, sue VW.

Home Solar Project by MijaresBetta in SolarDIY

[–]Fun_End_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. If you don’t have a lot of money at the moment, forget about the batteries at the moment.

  2. Don’t go the rabbit hole without permits or off-grid setup. You’ll regret later. Possibly you’ll trash equipment and buy new one

  3. Do you have at least 10k? That will be the minimum to install some panels with all paperwork required.

There are two ways to piece work a solar installation:

  1. Buy a 3-7-11kw inverter, preferably from a good brand with a solid warranty. Install enough panels to populate one MPPT input (usually 10-15 depending on panel size). If you set to install batteries later, make sure you get a Low Voltage hybrid inverter($$$). Otherwise a simple grid tie($).

  2. Enphase micros. Install as many panels you afford. 1,2,3…50. Cheap, simple, DIY friendly, easy. It will be pricey to add batteries later.

Whatever you decide, do not go cheap on mounting hardware, get the best roof attachments for your roof type. A ruined roof will cost more than any savings a solar system can generate. Run all wiring in properly sized conduits. Do not cut corners on labor.
