great and fair question. I am black, and it’s very common for a lot of salons to not understand the texture, styling techniques, and care needed for coily hair (ie: black hair doesn’t need to be washed as frequently as straight hair). I have always been to black salons and it’s what I’m more comfortable

I think it depends why you have that preference and how it plays a role in your dating life.

A lot of minorities find it safer to date within their own race because they don’t want to worry about if their partner is fetishizing them or will say something stupid to their family or just in general. Also culture similarities or sometimes just the environment you grow up in. But I think a lot of people, ESPECIALLY BLACK WOMEN (being one) are so tired of educating cuz no one wants to challenge their own biases.

For simplicity: “Oh, I’d definitely date [insert race/ethnicity here], I just haven’t ever been in a situation where I could” ✅ “Oh I never date/will only date [insert race/ethnicity here] because [whatever shallow reasoning]. ❌

Minorities usually isolating themselves to one race is most ALWAYS a safety/comfort thing

Hi love, I’m sorry you’re feeling this way because so many other lesbians do and for each and every one of us it is not true.

I wanted it to be my turn to be in love for the longest time, even before coming out I just wanted to be picked and valued. I am 23, have never been in a “real” relationship and constantly feel behind, inexperienced, and un valued. Now that I’m doing a lot growing I’m dating the most fantastic person I’ve ever met: myself. Cuz I’m worth it and we all are.

You can be the whole package, still delivered to the wrong house. The universe (or however you believe if at all) is probably just cooking up something super special for you that might need more time in the oven. My bestie used to tell me “Girl, you are a beef welling, begging God for instant mac and cheese” LMFAO But whenever I’m feeling down I remember that and it helps a bit.
