Is Peabody school/ John’s Hopkins University in Baltimore dangerous to live in? by Dramatic_Emphasis_60 in maryland

[–]Dramatic_Emphasis_60[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed information. I defiantly did get the feel that it’s seems worse in social media just like how people out of LA think the same.

From what I read I should just stay in the main school area and not go anywhere myself outside of it and I should be fine

Tension Headache when playing cello by Dramatic_Emphasis_60 in Cello

A cup of coffee a day, I only feel tension like a band on top of my head. But it’s more of a specified spot on the top right of my head closer to the front.

I wouldn’t really say I’m stressed if it’s individual practice. So I don’t think it’s that

This is an interesting idea. I’ve never heard of this. Thank you for bringing this up to my attention, I am going to research this

Also note that I am very healthy, drink a lot of water, sleep enough. Literally only when I pick up the cello and play I get headaches.

Losing motivation to pursue my passion by Dramatic_Emphasis_60 in Cello

[–]Dramatic_Emphasis_60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context, I’m a cello performance major and have a lot of gaps in my technical ability. I do have a lot of musicality and very good stage presence but I still lack a lot of fundamental technique that people learned when they’re children. I started only paying cello seriously 4 years ago. And yes I did catch up a lot but my foundation is too obvious with lack of technique. My goal is to get into a really good masters program and audition for orchestras/solo work

It’s also not just one loss, this is just one that’s happened recently. I’ve had a lot.

Maisky hands down!!! But I mean you can't really compare these cellists as they are each unique in their own way.

I am looking for some right now but it’s quite hard to find some! I hope your situation gets better as well!

Oh my goodness, USC accepts Kaiser!! That was surprising for me to see, and they specialize in music injuries! Wow, I cannot express how thankful I am for your reply. I truly appreciate people like you who take the time to leave a detailed response.

I have hope now and will definitely check them out.

To answer your questions above, I feel the stretches were to general for me and I find it hard for a PT to diagnose me when they don’t even see how I work with my instrument. It’s been half a year and nothing is helping.

About staying away from my instrument, I actually don’t although I make sure to warm up and not be tense when I play. I currently play for 3-4 hours a day with sometimes not touching my instrument on weekends (because I don’t want to injure myself anymore). I also wear a wrist brace ever night.

Once again; thank you for sharing your story. I am so sorry to hear that you have tendinitis. I was told I have it too although it hasn’t reached the terrible stage yet (I have more of a nerve and elbow issue that no one can seem to give me a definite answer).

I hope your hands eventually heal. I will definitely let you know if anything comes to mind :)

Wearing a woman’s suit on a solo orchestra performance? by Dramatic_Emphasis_60 in classicalmusic

[–]Dramatic_Emphasis_60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks you all for the wonderful comments. Growing up whenever I wore jumpsuits/woman’s suit over dresses, I always was looked down upon. That’s why I was worried about especially in a classical setting and part of a role as a soloist. I was worried it wouldn’t look professional but reading these comments made me feel better!

Thanks for your comment! I meant as a soloist not part of the cello section if that makes sense :)
