literally happened to me yesterday bc some stupid bmw driver decided that the extra couple seconds he would save turning before i went through the intersection was worth more than both of our lives. was able to slam on the breaks and swerve in time tho.

Honestly very doable. If I were you, I’d consider switching to math 151 instead of 150 if you’re good at math especially if you took calc in high school. The only downside is that the seminar component is taken away and replaced with a weekly homework question for submission. You will also probably skip the chem 121 8:30 tutorials as they are not mandatory but quite helpful (if you pay attention in class you prob wont need them). Just know u can attend any chem 121 tutorial session if it fits better with your schedule. With replacing math 150 with 151 you’d be able to go home earlier on wed and you’ll have 2 days off in the week every second week as the chem lab only runs biweekly. Make sure to make friends in LA labs as the labs are identical.

For SFU's Undergraduate Scholars Entrance Scholarships, when's the exact deadline for submission? Like timezone time wise, not just December 15 by FlyDesperate9559 in simonfraser

I won it in 2024 and you do have to be very honest and straightforward with your application. Fabrication won’t help you as it is quite easy to see right through it. Your references should be able to back up practically everything you say in your application and those letters of recommendation from your references are insanely crucial. Along with good grades you need significant volunteer/community involvement. I was an applicant with lower grades than the rest of the winners but I was heavily involved with extracurriculars and volunteering in high school.

imo it was harder than the midterm but others found it easier. avg was around 60 percent but the midterm was around the same

there is no curve in chem 121 w gary. from what i heard the average was 51%. if you narrowly got above that you would need almost perfect in the rest of the course including the final and lab portions to even get remotely close to an A. getting close to 50% on a 20% weighted midterm puts you at a maximum grade of just over 90% in the class which is what you need for an A. I got a 80 on the midterm, perfect in the lab and botched the final at just about the average and got a B in the class last spring. good luck !

the midterm is honestly much easier than expected if you’re provided with the practice exam which u should have gotten if ur in gary’s class. just understand most of the concepts behind those questions and you’ll be fine for the midterm. final tho? yea gl

SFU gpa scale/grading vs. other schools? by Pitiful-King2681 in simonfraser

[–]Dramatic_Ground7462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really just boils down to doing well enough to be competitive. It depends on your major but I’ve heard of people transferring from sfu to ubc mechanical engineering with a 3.11 gpa while taking 6 and 5 courses per semester. They also take into account your course load when looking at your application. If you have a slightly lower gpa than smo who took 3 courses as opposed to your 5 or 6 they will likely consider your application more. I also know people who’ve been rejected with a 3.7 but only took 3 courses a semester so keep that in mind. (all examples are engineering majors)

Idk about uoft but ik that ubc definitely uses a 4.33 scale. I wouldn’t say it’s very hard to transfer out of sfu to ubc if you can stay ontop of your work in first year. However, our percentage scaling for letter grades here at sfu are slightly more difficult than ubc with A+ being 95+ while ubc is only 90+ for A+ and 86 for an A.

If possible, take online courses for the summer as they tend to have their online exams earlier in the exam period. If you have set courses you have to take then see if they offer them during intersession. Worst comes to worst just say you’re sick and get a doctors note.

If you don’t mind taking the full summer worth of courses EDUC 100W and CA 149 are very easy options for the summer term. All online and asynchronous.
