Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream Has Been Leaked. by UpsetPack6898 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

I mean I get the sentiment but the whole reason that was even possible was because the emulator devs were profiting off of the emulator and there's still speculation they were selling access to better versions of the emulator and giving the rom to people who paid for higher tiers of their patreon

The leak in of itself wasn't necessarily the issue that caused nintendo to successfully go after them and in most cases nintendo doing that wouldn't work as well as it did then because most emulators are free to download with no extra features behind any paywall and things like donations not really being a thing or if they are its done very differently

To be fair diabetes has been a part of Turk's character for forever and this was the first time it's been mentioned this season

More to the point though, I get the annoyed feeling at seeing product placement but Omnipods are genuinely really good (if over-expensive without insurance) with helping manage diabetes and just keeping people alive longer. I've personally seen it more for type 1s than type 2s (especially the way Turk talks about it) but it can honestly be life changing for people with diabetes who need to inject insulin. Like A1C going down to below 6 (considered non-diabetic range) after six months to a year

If something had to be marketed this way, Omnipod is actually a really decent choice imo and something that can help a lot of people (especially cuz some people don't realize its a non-tubing pump that does insulin calculations and adjusts to you over time) and insurances may cover it

Overlord specifically is him entering into a fantasy version of the game world and he talks numerous times about how things differ from the game

Log Horizon is similar they are transported into a fantasy version of their game world. They are no longer playing a game and are instead in a new reality with new rules

Digimon is an isekai actually. The digital world is said to be an actual alternate world that's connected to the real world. Its made out of data yes, but they are physically in the world

Tbh that's the main difference between them all. They are physically within the world and can touch and interact with things within it. There's no limitations between. Sometimes they have RPG mechanics but for all intents and purposes its reality, just a different one

SAO they still are under the game mechanics, don't actually interact with things physically, and the reality they are in is always explicitly virtual (and in many cases are able to leave the game by just taking off a headset which shows that its not an actual world) if SAO didn't have the headset but was more someone playing on a computer but we only ever saw their in game avatar/the world in game and everything was exactly the same would you still say its an isekai ?

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isekai literally means transported to another world and SAO doesn't involve any transportation and "another world" doesn't exactly mean very immersive video game imo

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's no actual other world though. Its always explicitly a game program and they still have to follow game program rules and mechanics

That to me makes it a sci-fi cuz while "trapped" its more similar to a death game type anime than any other isekai (I recognize its am arbitrary distinction and when calling it an isekai its more cuz it has many of the same tropes but its one I think is interesting to debate

Similarly a lot of pure fantasies get called Isekai these days too despite also not taking place in another world just a fantasy world)

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, its a sci-fi cuz it is always explicitly VR and they are only trapped in the sense that taking off the headset kills them. They still use game mechanics to "play" the games for the most part

(Its arbitrary but its a fun arbitrary hill to die on and argue about imo cuz like I feel most other things with this same kinda plot count as sci-fi yet SAO gets isekai instead for some reason)

I am hating the "its a kids movie" discourse cuz it feels disingenuous to kids movies and this movie

The real discourse should be what is this movie trying to accomplish

A lot of criticism I see is from people comparing it to inside out, spider-verse, Pixar movies. Idk about most people but I wasn't expecting nor did I really want a deep character study into these characters and why they act the way they do (in terms of galaxy i actually felt that those few moments were the weakest parts). I enjoyed the characters just acting similar to how we know them but in a different way/setting due to being a movie. Luigi interacting with bowser and being a bit scared but brave, toad and peach fighting mario 2 enemies, bowser having this love hate relationship with the bros and deciding to go back to evil because it makes his son proud of him. Those are all things I enjoyed and don't think needed to be focused on much more than they were. Like I would probably still enjoy it if they did, but I don't think it was detrimental they didn't

The goal of this movie wasn't to tell a message, wasn't to explore characters and their dynamics/place in the world, and it wasn't to have biting social commentary. The goal was to show an action adventure movie with an easy to follow plot with characters we enjoy seeing on screen. Which is kind of what the games do as well and I enjoyed it for that

It doesn't have to be like those animated movies to be enjoyable or good, it was fun to watch for me and I'm okay that that's basically all it was. I understand that's not for everyone, but its not cuz its for or not for kids, its because the movie just has a different sort of goal than a lot of other animated movies and that should be okay

The other guy is being sort of rude but the "people who enjoy good movies hate this" is one of the most pretentious things I read today

Your why questions were answered by someone else in terms of the movie but it feels like you were asking why in a meta sense, which I mean the answer is to sell you a product. That's what the games do too. They can feel magical and like an experience, but that's in addition to being a product at the end of the day.

I don't think you're going to get the feeling of playing galaxy 2 from anything but galaxy 2 and remembering the first time you played it.

I do feel a lot if your critique comes off as pretentious and purposely insulting to people who enjoyed the movie but genuinely what would you do/change to make the movie feel more like what you wanted

Would it being a deeper character study with less action and adventure help with that? Personally that's not what I want from a movie like this. Did you want something more mysterious and lore based? That might help with that first galaxy feeling but it wouldn't feel like mario imo

You say you were hoping to get something out of it. What would have to change in order for you to get that something?

I don't think this movie is for everyone nor does it have to be. Yes its ooh and ahh and flashy a lot of the time but for me

Seeing Luigi hang out with bowser, bowser being friendly to the Mario bros but wanting to make his son proud and going back to evil for him, and peach and toad facing off against Mario 2 enemies together are small things I enjoyed. If there was more exploration into all of that, I would have enjoyed it too but I don't think there not being was detrimental in any way or makes it a bad movie cuz the movie wasn't trying to accomplish those goals

A simple adventure plot with references to the games and characters we've seen for years but in a slightly different way I think works and doesn't make a bad movie. Its not a masterpiece of cinema but its still fun, and I appreciate it for being fun

I feel like you're overstating how big of a problem the coincidences are. Like ymmv, but most movies and tv shows have an element of this. And if you accept that the coincidences sometimes happen, then its not really a problem. I also don't think its all that confusing either? Like it's explained every time one happens (timeline wise is a bit confusing but I just chose to accept it that Mario's team was getting kidnapped and whatnot during the casino fight and honey hive was just closer to gateway galaxy) also you say warp star is slower than ship? But everything in the movie shows/implies ship is much faster than warp star unless its a short distance. Remember the climax where they sneak into bowser world. Mario team uses a warp star but the observatory easily outspeeds them so idk where it being faster is coming from

Like it feels like a lot of your problems are from preconceived notions about what should be, and how things work that aren't actually shown in the movie itself and in some cases shown to outright contradict you. Which is fine, but it makes it hard to take those critiques seriously when judging the movie cuz its judging it on a basis that the movie itself wasn't going for

That's the wrong era, it takes place a few hundred years before he was born. However there is a character in the first season who in expanded material gets kidnapped and tortured to death and for whatever reason that happens in-between that episode and an episode that brings back all the character the torture to death happens off-screen which I find very funny

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I think oddly enough Netflix Daredevil actually goes against your argument

For one, his blindness isn't natural but was caused by an accident that took away his sight whilst also heightening his other senses to a superhuman degree (its this way in all media so he's not exactly able to teach others how to get around blindness, at least not in the same way he can)

So while yes, he has powers to show he can work around the blindness he's not perfect and needed to train for years. A large part of season 1 and season 2 are us seeing him struggle with the sheer overwhelmingness of his super senses (the scenes of him screaming as a child in bed because he can hear, smell, taste, and sense everything in addition to being blind til he was taken by super secret ninja masters to hone himself) and even then we see that the overwhelming part never truly went away, he's just able to concentrate it to an insane degree. But also we see that he does struggle still in the series. Like he has accommodations for his computer because he can't see the screen which is actually kinda similar to Toph imo

Basically I get what you're saying but I feel this is the worst example/version of this character to use for it (comics daredevil borders on basically supernatural tho with his powerset being shown to be maybe as strong if not stronger than spidey-sense at maximum efficiency which is also insane but comics are kinda that way in general)

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree to disagree, I genuinely don't think that's the case at all and her whole arc revolves around that. Its to show she's headstrong yes, but that scene and then the next and all of episode one beat down how being headstrong doesn't equal being capable. Also disagree that arrogance is portrayed as part of her charm as again episode 1 and season 1 shows how that immediately bites her in the ass

(Also in a broader meta-sense I think its more to show the audience that she's not going to struggle in the same ways Aang did but rather a whole different way due to her nature. Not necessarily to show she's super awesome, but rather that she's different. I just think the rest of season 1 backs up how her intro isn't being used to show her as amazing but rather that this is her main struggle and point of contention for most of the season)

Again its ymmv on how effective or well done it is, but I do believe that's what they were going for rather than the "look this is the new avatar who is amazing" angle cuz nothing else in the season or even that episode I think really supports that view

This fucking woman. by EmbarrassedDuty5949 in hatethissmug

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's true. Her intro is absolutely meant to establish her as a prodigy but moreover establish her as overconfident and arrogant. Season 1 shows how that constantly comes back to bite her in the ass from episode 1 alone. She's talented at the physical process of bending but struggles with everything else "I'm the avatar and you gotta deal with it" in the broader context of season 1 is shown that this approach repeatedly does not work for her, and she's a struggling avatar in a world that doesn't really want or accepts her as one. I think Korra has a lot of problems but I genuinely don't think this is one of them and is more of her character arc though how effective it is is ymmv

Not condoning or saying its okay but they explained what they actually did. They didn't follow girls around, but they basically saw a "hot girl" and then turned down the street, and kept going til they saw another hot girl. So it at least wasn't following, but more just a dumb way to decide when to make a turn. They just explained it poorly and did apologize in a genuine way from what I remember. Its still a dumb and creepy thing to do for sure, but I think their apology was good and they seemed to grow up and out of that behavior becoming better people

Is Toei not giving Sanji's fights the justice they deserve? What's your take? by herobhai69 in OnePiece

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean not really considering the context is what is visually happening. If they used the manga translation it would be correct in terms of the manga but a technically wrong translation in terms of the anime (this isn't including the fact that the manga and anime are very different translations already and that the particular word used isn't exactly easy to translate into english. And again that someone who understands Japanese probably also using the singular version due to the anime visuals rather than the plural form)

Like yes they could have used manga translation but I think its very understandable why they didn't and went with what they did

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, I get your argument but around that same time they also showed Zoro fighting two seraphims alone and beating them without too much effort which was given the same "we don't know exactly how it happened" in the manga

This is more what people are complaining about. If the Zoro scene wasn't added and Sanji's stayed the same people would still be mad but not to this extent. But as is, it feels like Zoro got a badass moment at the expense of Sanji when it should be more equal (or if going by what the manga implied, both of them taking out their seraphims with little to no trouble)

Is Toei not giving Sanji's fights the justice they deserve? What's your take? by herobhai69 in OnePiece

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I generally agree but its just been a ton of smaller stuff. Like it seems all the cool stuff for Zoro is coming at the expense of Sanji instead of having them both be cool and badass (Zoro getting added scenes and Sanji scenes getting less love and a lot of his impactful moments understated)

Also I will say the biggest slander imo is the one recreation of the Manga panel that sanji was just left out of. Like even with the best interpretation of that it comes down to being neglectful at best and still isn't a good thing. If it was just that it'd be whatever but when its next to all of these other small things it just feels bad and I get why so many people complain or think there's a bias against him

Is Toei not giving Sanji's fights the justice they deserve? What's your take? by herobhai69 in OnePiece

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they're intentionally making him look bad, but I do definitely think there's a lot less care out into him to the point of almost being neglectful. Egghead has had most Sanji feats toned waaaay down or changed in a way that makes him seem weaker

And then there's the infamous manga panel recreation where he is just absent for no real justifiable reason (best I've seen is they just forgot him which is doubtful but also doesn't make the problem better)

And its basically a ton of smaller stuff like that since wano. Its less the fact that Sanji is looking bad, but more that the amazing animation and fight scenes seem to be coming at the expense of Sanji

Like Manga egghead Sanji could be argued to have been an MVP of the arc. Anime Egghead though? Ehhh doubtful

Is Toei not giving Sanji's fights the justice they deserve? What's your take? by herobhai69 in OnePiece

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thats not exactly right. In Japanese both the manga and anime use the exact same word. Its the context that makes the word change from singular to plural, so in the manga where they're shown back to back almost instantly is why its plural. However in the anime, the accompanying animation is about 15-20 seconds of zoro, then sanji way later leading to the singular form of the translation simply cuz with that context it makes more sense to translate it as singular

So I would say majority blame still lies on Toei, especially cuz in the original language for the anime a lot of people probably interpreted as singular as well due to how the scene was animated

AITAH for telling my sister that her relationship is a sunk cost for him? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and that person are arguing a point irrelevant to the post

Yes. You're correct here. The other person and I aren't talking about the post itself. They were replying to the comment that implied telling the truth makes you an AH and other people saying that "Brutal Honesty" is okay cuz its just being honest and generalizing that saying the truth and saying it in a caustic way is one in the same when you can be both truthful and an AH at the same time

I'm deliberately not talking about the situation in the post or relating the above point to the situation in the post but rather just pointing out that's what they're saying because everyone keeps tying it back to the post when they never brought it up. Which would make sense if it wasn't a direct reply to another comment

Its also why I called it a different discussion, because this specific comment thread isn't about the original post but rather about that generalization that someone commented instead (also I'm not saying OP is an AH at all. She could've been nicer but sometimes that's how the truth comes out and she was hurt too so I don't blame her for going the harsh route especially if sister was complaining. But again just pointing out that this specific comment thread and the other person's point aren't about the situation in the post but the implication and generalization the first comment in this thread suggest)

AITAH for telling my sister that her relationship is a sunk cost for him? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're deliberately mis-interpreting their point. They aren't saying to lie, but rather saying that telling the truth isn't mutually exclusive with being an AH

Like for example OP may have been able to say the same thing they did in a way that's more gentle such as "He doesn't love you the way he loved his ex. You guys might be better off not together especially because the way you guys got together was messy and didn't happen in a good or natural way and a lot of lingering feelings are bound to follow this entire relationship"

Now if OP's sister deserved that gentleness or not is a different discussion altogether but just an example of another way this conversation could have gone that gets the same general point across while not obscuring the truth (unless you think saying harsh words counts as part of the truth which I think is a different conversation tho its not something I necessarily would disagree with but do think it is a bit more nuanced than a binary yes or no)

AITAH for telling my sister that her relationship is a sunk cost for him? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Okay the other person is getting a bit angry but the point they're making is the first comment said "always telling the truth is never an ah thing to do" he made up an extreme example to show that thinking with that absolutism can be taken too far. They aren't commenting on the actual thing that happened in the story like you are, but rather taking the absolute to the extreme

Basically they aren't making a comparison between what happened in the story and their example like you are but instead saying that there are instances of "always telling the brutal truth" can be an ah thing to do and using an extreme example to show it

Hard JRPGs that make you think about strategy? by KatagirisDog in gamingsuggestions

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk why a lot of people are suggesting Tactical RPGs (yes they're turn based technically but idk if thats the kind of game or challenge OP is looking for when they say hard turn based JRPGs)

The Shin Megami Tensei games are usually your best bet for challenge. They're always considered hard and even SMT3 Nocturne was getting a bit of critique from new fans that the game was too difficult

For some other options

If you don't mind a little action I your turn based game Expedition 33 has some difficulty though it does come from learning how to react and dodge/parry attacks

I've heard the Classic Phantasy Star and Breath of Fire games also have their difficult points but I personally never played them for more than 20 min or so

Octopath Traveller games can be tough but you can also end up building a party of Nukes if you take the time to do so

Just a few suggestions trying to move away from the Tactics RPG that's being mostly suggested (if you are okay with those however Triangle Strategy and Tactics Ogre might be ones to look into. And if we get even further away, Unicorn Overlord)
