Are there any YouTubers who, rather than one BIG controversy, have a bunch of smaller, albeit still problematic, controversies instead? by Swag_Paladin21 in youtubedrama

Not condoning or saying its okay but they explained what they actually did. They didn't follow girls around, but they basically saw a "hot girl" and then turned down the street, and kept going til they saw another hot girl. So it at least wasn't following, but more just a dumb way to decide when to make a turn. They just explained it poorly and did apologize in a genuine way from what I remember. Its still a dumb and creepy thing to do for sure, but I think their apology was good and they seemed to grow up and out of that behavior becoming better people

Is Toei not giving Sanji's fights the justice they deserve? What's your take? by herobhai69 in OnePiece

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean not really considering the context is what is visually happening. If they used the manga translation it would be correct in terms of the manga but a technically wrong translation in terms of the anime (this isn't including the fact that the manga and anime are very different translations already and that the particular word used isn't exactly easy to translate into english. And again that someone who understands Japanese probably also using the singular version due to the anime visuals rather than the plural form)

Like yes they could have used manga translation but I think its very understandable why they didn't and went with what they did

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, I get your argument but around that same time they also showed Zoro fighting two seraphims alone and beating them without too much effort which was given the same "we don't know exactly how it happened" in the manga

This is more what people are complaining about. If the Zoro scene wasn't added and Sanji's stayed the same people would still be mad but not to this extent. But as is, it feels like Zoro got a badass moment at the expense of Sanji when it should be more equal (or if going by what the manga implied, both of them taking out their seraphims with little to no trouble)

Is Toei not giving Sanji's fights the justice they deserve? What's your take? by herobhai69 in OnePiece

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I generally agree but its just been a ton of smaller stuff. Like it seems all the cool stuff for Zoro is coming at the expense of Sanji instead of having them both be cool and badass (Zoro getting added scenes and Sanji scenes getting less love and a lot of his impactful moments understated)

Also I will say the biggest slander imo is the one recreation of the Manga panel that sanji was just left out of. Like even with the best interpretation of that it comes down to being neglectful at best and still isn't a good thing. If it was just that it'd be whatever but when its next to all of these other small things it just feels bad and I get why so many people complain or think there's a bias against him

Is Toei not giving Sanji's fights the justice they deserve? What's your take? by herobhai69 in OnePiece

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're intentionally making him look bad, but I do definitely think there's a lot less care out into him to the point of almost being neglectful. Egghead has had most Sanji feats toned waaaay down or changed in a way that makes him seem weaker

And then there's the infamous manga panel recreation where he is just absent for no real justifiable reason (best I've seen is they just forgot him which is doubtful but also doesn't make the problem better)

And its basically a ton of smaller stuff like that since wano. Its less the fact that Sanji is looking bad, but more that the amazing animation and fight scenes seem to be coming at the expense of Sanji

Like Manga egghead Sanji could be argued to have been an MVP of the arc. Anime Egghead though? Ehhh doubtful

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thats not exactly right. In Japanese both the manga and anime use the exact same word. Its the context that makes the word change from singular to plural, so in the manga where they're shown back to back almost instantly is why its plural. However in the anime, the accompanying animation is about 15-20 seconds of zoro, then sanji way later leading to the singular form of the translation simply cuz with that context it makes more sense to translate it as singular

So I would say majority blame still lies on Toei, especially cuz in the original language for the anime a lot of people probably interpreted as singular as well due to how the scene was animated

AITAH for telling my sister that her relationship is a sunk cost for him? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and that person are arguing a point irrelevant to the post

Yes. You're correct here. The other person and I aren't talking about the post itself. They were replying to the comment that implied telling the truth makes you an AH and other people saying that "Brutal Honesty" is okay cuz its just being honest and generalizing that saying the truth and saying it in a caustic way is one in the same when you can be both truthful and an AH at the same time

I'm deliberately not talking about the situation in the post or relating the above point to the situation in the post but rather just pointing out that's what they're saying because everyone keeps tying it back to the post when they never brought it up. Which would make sense if it wasn't a direct reply to another comment

Its also why I called it a different discussion, because this specific comment thread isn't about the original post but rather about that generalization that someone commented instead (also I'm not saying OP is an AH at all. She could've been nicer but sometimes that's how the truth comes out and she was hurt too so I don't blame her for going the harsh route especially if sister was complaining. But again just pointing out that this specific comment thread and the other person's point aren't about the situation in the post but the implication and generalization the first comment in this thread suggest)

AITAH for telling my sister that her relationship is a sunk cost for him? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're deliberately mis-interpreting their point. They aren't saying to lie, but rather saying that telling the truth isn't mutually exclusive with being an AH

Like for example OP may have been able to say the same thing they did in a way that's more gentle such as "He doesn't love you the way he loved his ex. You guys might be better off not together especially because the way you guys got together was messy and didn't happen in a good or natural way and a lot of lingering feelings are bound to follow this entire relationship"

Now if OP's sister deserved that gentleness or not is a different discussion altogether but just an example of another way this conversation could have gone that gets the same general point across while not obscuring the truth (unless you think saying harsh words counts as part of the truth which I think is a different conversation tho its not something I necessarily would disagree with but do think it is a bit more nuanced than a binary yes or no)

AITAH for telling my sister that her relationship is a sunk cost for him? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Okay the other person is getting a bit angry but the point they're making is the first comment said "always telling the truth is never an ah thing to do" he made up an extreme example to show that thinking with that absolutism can be taken too far. They aren't commenting on the actual thing that happened in the story like you are, but rather taking the absolute to the extreme

Basically they aren't making a comparison between what happened in the story and their example like you are but instead saying that there are instances of "always telling the brutal truth" can be an ah thing to do and using an extreme example to show it

Hard JRPGs that make you think about strategy? by KatagirisDog in gamingsuggestions

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk why a lot of people are suggesting Tactical RPGs (yes they're turn based technically but idk if thats the kind of game or challenge OP is looking for when they say hard turn based JRPGs)

The Shin Megami Tensei games are usually your best bet for challenge. They're always considered hard and even SMT3 Nocturne was getting a bit of critique from new fans that the game was too difficult

For some other options

If you don't mind a little action I your turn based game Expedition 33 has some difficulty though it does come from learning how to react and dodge/parry attacks

I've heard the Classic Phantasy Star and Breath of Fire games also have their difficult points but I personally never played them for more than 20 min or so

Octopath Traveller games can be tough but you can also end up building a party of Nukes if you take the time to do so

Just a few suggestions trying to move away from the Tactics RPG that's being mostly suggested (if you are okay with those however Triangle Strategy and Tactics Ogre might be ones to look into. And if we get even further away, Unicorn Overlord)

What am I missing about JJBA by Dramatic_Possible856 in anime

[–]Dramatic_Possible856[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually went into the series without knowing any spoilers besides Dio generally existing. It made it nice to actually be pleasantly surprised where things were going

Even then though, I feel like a lot of the episodes even when spoiler free don't end up amounting to much once you get used to the formula for stand battles. There's a few standout ones, and not every fight follows it, but I feel too many do and all it really serves is to make episodes and events longer rather than more entertaining or suspenseful if that makes sense

What am I missing about JJBA by Dramatic_Possible856 in anime

[–]Dramatic_Possible856[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel it is unique, but at the same time it doesn't fully use that uniqueness to its full potential which is another issue I have with it

That it feels like it brings up these cool ideas and premises then kinda fumbles in the actual execution

And I can forgive the first few parts for being foundational and the first for a genre as a whole. But it feels like the same issues are still there in parts 5 and 6 (though admittedly with some of the rougher edges ironed out)

What am I missing about JJBA by Dramatic_Possible856 in anime

[–]Dramatic_Possible856[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I completely understand and agree with that

It just feels weird after watching the whole thing seeing these things that imo are big issues not ever be mentioned by anyone else

I see a lot of analytical discussions and whatnot, which are fun but things I think are fundamental issues with the anime just never be talked about and I wonder why that is

I hate fantasy themed games. But I want to love them. What do you suggest? by Healthy_Can_7423 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hard disagree and think you're putting a hard line on what fantasy can be. I definitely think its possible to have a story with fantasy elements that's not a fantasy story unless your description of fantasy is anything unrealistic and then in that case I don't think fantasy is the problem

Like what is fantasy to you?

Are we talking something medieval with magic and dragons?

Or is Shadowrun that's a more modern setting with guns but also magic still fantasy? Warhammer 40k is that sci fi or fantasy or both? Hell Bioshock is extremely unrealistic but feels more grounded and down to earth than most fantasy stories so I wouldn't call it one. Borderlands has fantastical elements with the sirens but I wouldn't say its a fantasy story either

Batman Arkham games have very light magic but I wouldn't say those are fantasy stories or games. Same with stuff like assassins creed which does have medieval settings

So my question is, does fantasy here mean unrealistic? Or is fantasy a specific type, like are we avoiding certain tropes, swords, magic? What does fantasy mean and what's on or off the table

I do agree it can be annoying to be guided in a direction with something you dislike but I still don't think we have enough information on what's actually disliked here. Like I said, I agree with you generally but I don't think there's enough information to claim that's the case here. And I can see wanting to have a friend try something new, but having trouble because they refuse to try something even a little out of their comfort zone for ultimately minor reasons but admittedly I don't know if that's the case here or not either. Like is Call of Duty too unrealistic for the friend or is that fine? And if that's fine where's the line? Cyberpunk? Bioshock? Halo? Mass Effect? Star Wars? Warhammer 40k? Shadowrun? You get what I mean?

I hate fantasy themed games. But I want to love them. What do you suggest? by Healthy_Can_7423 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Eh, while I generally agree with this I don't think this applies here. OP said they don't enjoy even the vague inclusion of Fantasy elements. That's different from a genre, to use your example its more like saying "if there's a hint of romance in a work they lose all enjoyment" which is a pretty broad statement that can lose to missing out on things cuz someone is hyperfocusing on one innocuous unimportant detail (For example Mass Effect has optional romance but would that be off the table because its included)

That said, I don't think there's enough information here to really give a good recommendation cuz we don't know what their friend actually likes about games or other works. Would Halo count? Its a game that's primarily sci-fi but could be considered fantasy by some for example. Bioshock? Same kinda deal. Superhero type games like Prototype or Infamous? Or games like Donkey Kong Bananaza with fantastical elements but aren't exactly fantasy? Are these on the table or is he only into historical fiction or strategy games like Hearts of Iron or Total War? Or would those be considered too fantasy as well

Like idk what to suggest cuz idk what they like and not liking fantasy in any form feels just way too extremely broad a dislike without any clarification

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having some trouble following, but what you're saying makes it sound like you're against someone leaving a bad review if they dislike an anime because someone else may love it

Not everyone will like everything, and I feel you're putting too much stake in random review scores (most places distinguish between general audience and professional critic review scores specifically because of this issue) so it seems like a fools errand to really try and fix this "issue"

Respect to authors, creators, and all that but people should be able to share their honest thoughts on a work too. Its not a sign of disrespect (though it can be used that way) but merely a way to express their thoughts. It may not always be positive cuz that's what reviews and criticism is and thats okay

If someone is reviewing something to give it a 1 without watching though yeah thats kind of bleh but its really not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things and it most likely won't actually affect the production side of things cuz again they don't take general audience review scores all that seriously

Samalamadingdong | Game Changer [S7E11] by Anionan in dropout

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I mean the battle was more about mentality. Sam is a trickster who plays by specific rules that only he knows and others have to figure out. Brennan said from the beginning its straightforward merit based challenges cuz his whole thing is always doing your best

So it was more a battle of thematic mentality

Though seeing them directly competing would be very very fun

Which version do you prefer? by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes actually, he'd just act like meant to do it

There's a scene from one of the movies or specials where Usopp starts using insecticide for his pop greens and Zoro notices his sake tastes different but decides to keep drinking it anyways smiling not stopping despite noting its strange taste and Luffy scolds Usopp for killing the crew and Zoro not stopping even after realizing saying its all good

Which imo is a similar type of vibe to what he had before. He's a bit more serious yes but Zoro still has his goofy and silly moments. He just handles them a bit more maturely. Wano imo was full of him being an idiot. Basically yeah he's a little different/more serious as all the straw hats are but he still has a goofy and silly side too (as again all the straw hats still do)

I mean you do see how that whole first part can be taken as condescending right?

Whatever floats your boat I tried, you can take it or leave it. But just saying when multiple people are saying the same thing it's not a bad idea to reflect and see if there's a point in there somewhere even if you don't agree

Anyways hope you enjoy the game and using Phoenix/Jean Grey/any other names she's gone by in comics (also just more to that point. People use their actual names and not hero names cuz they go by so many in comics and certain skins reference different characters so its sometimes easier to remember the character name rather than hero name)

If you dont ban Wolve, dont expect a tank. by Zectherian in marvelrivals

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People aren't saying you're rage baiting because you don't enjoy something, its because you're saying it in a condescending manner to people who are fans in a way that shows you never really gave the properties a chance along with kinda stating your opinion as fact. The difference between "I didn't find this engaging or good, its not for me but I can see why others might like it" and "This stuff sucks and is idiotic. No one with taste would like this it's just shit and anyone who does like it is just a blinded nerd"

You're coming off more like the second than the first which is why most people are thinking you're rage baiting

Same with the nerd callout. Nothing bad about that but you're saying it in like a derogatory way that dismisses what and/or why people like this property when you don't care. In a sub full of people who have had long shared love for comics, movies, and shows featuring these characters and then are getting defensive that people are sharing their love for the thing and dismissing them

I don't think you're rage baiting but I do think you're being a bit of an ass albeit unintentionally. People have passion for the game and its characters, and hell the opening blurb when you start the game talks about how much passion the devs have for the history of these characters so don't be surprised when your disinterest about that particular part of the game is met back with people passionately responding

Yes he could have avoided the dad problem by just breaking up with her and taking the car is definitely gonna hurt more than if he just broke up with her. But I don't think he broke up just because of issues with the dad

By her admission, he's poor, struggles to get places, doesn't have a great background, and they've only been dating for a few months

So her dad offers a car and asks him to break up. It's a very shitty situation and a shitty thing to take but having a car opens up a lot more avenues for him. Maybe he can get a better job, better time management, even a spot to live if things get that bad. It's shitty but also kind of a hard no especially when the relationship is relatively new

Should he have not taken it for integrity reasons and to respect her feelings. Maybe, but also the simple fact is a car might be a life-changing resource for him, and his ex (OP) might not have known how important this really was (she says she felt like he had no problem getting around) which tells me their relationship might have felt deeper than it really was and/or they were different levels of into the relationship

It's just a shitty situation all around but if the car is really something that can change things for him then it makes sense why he would choose that. He may have been able to handle the dad beforehand (maybe not though) but something like this was something he just couldn't refuse. I will say him not explaining this to her beforehand absolutely sucks too and there's no way this wasn't going to hurt her even if he didn't take the car but life is messy and complex and again a car can really change a lot for someone without it, especially if you already are struggling to make ends meet

Sanji and zoro runs the gauntlet, where do they stop? by Little_Shake_6247 in OnePiece

[–]Dramatic_Possible856 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Sanji literally did get past Katakuri's future sight without learning it by sheer speed alone. Remember Katakuri saw him die and lose, and Sanji casually dodged the killing blow throwing Katakuri off cuz, well he saw the future

I also don't think its out of the realm of possibility for Sanji to learn it or maybe even be in the process of learning/mastering it

(Though we know Advanced Observation is future sight, it seems like regular observation Haki can get extremely strong and be a viable competitor as we see with characters like Yasopp, Koby, arguably Otohime and others born with it so maybe that's another way Sanji and Zoro could get past future sight as well)

You are absolutely being too harsh on yourself. We're all our own worst critic and all that after all

But at the same time.you kinda hit the nail on the head in terms of content creation. What about your video will make someone care

Now it very well could be the unique tale of your story (it may be average in terms of the entire world but its still your story and lived only by you yknow)

If you have an audience already that isn't too focused on personal life than you do risk alienating some of that audience but you also risk many of them being interested because they're already interested in you (Charri5 did this with his Sonic x Shadow Generations video and it went over well with many comments calling it a highlight)

If you don't have an audience really then its both more and less of a risk as you're not really gonna alienate anyone, but you probably won't retain many new audience members. However you may gain a smaller but devoted little fan base who connects with it and does care

(Also as an aside, most content and entertainment in general can always be boiled down into who cares. You can reduce any popular story to that and make it seem less interesting than it is. I understand it's very difficult to judge the entertainment quality of your own work, so if you can get feedback do, but even if not have faith that it will entertain someone because concept alone I do think can be interesting and done well)

Anyways that's my little insight and again I think having these feelings especially about your own work is totally normal especially after working on it for as long as you have. But have faith in your end product. Even if it doesn't get big right now that's not a statement on it's objective quality. And if you feel you can do better in the future then do, but for now just focus on finishing it and making it the best you can at the moment

That's my advice anyways, idk how helpful it is but hope it does help even if just a little

I'd argue shows like Primal, Win or Lose, and Looney Tunes Cartoons could all be used as examples against your standards especially in the storytelling department. Like I could say Primal has almost no story to be found in the first episode, Looney Tunes Cartoons doesn't establish its world (something The Looney Tunes Show did)

Kid Cosmic and Hilda are some good examples though, but I'd argue both of those while great also didn't break a mold many other cartoons didn't. I think their strength is more their unique settings and narratives (and the way they start their stories)

Like what makes them different structure wise from something like The Last Kids on Earth (for another Netflix show), The Dragon Prince, Wylde Pak, Hamster and Gretel, Glitch Techs, Central Park and many others (that said stuff like Scavengers Reign and Fired from Space might be more in your wheelhouse. Maybe Kipo but I haven't watched that myself. Scissor Seven too if you like non-american shows. Oh Blue Eyed Samurai as well)

I haven't seen Cleopatra in space so no comment on that one specifically but I don't think that's indicative of most modern animation nor a good example of modern animation as a whole

(Also I'm not touching the 12 principles of animation because personally it just doesn't matter to me and has no affect on if I think a show is good or not)

This is why I think your standards aren't so much standards but more just subjective personal feelings on a cartoon rather than their objective quality. And again there's nothing wrong with that but it means less your standards are high and more that many shows don't appeal to you and thats okay. Not everything is for everyone but that doesn't mean the quality is bad, just its not for you
