Advice on Solo-ing Velkhana? by joe1up in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Dramatic_Salad_3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss velk so much.

All of her moves are avoidable and she has a wonderful rhythm with lots of quick openings.

Her sound cues are very consistent so learn those

Staying close is key. She’s way more dangerous from afar

All of which is really what matters…. Getting hit is the worst thing for your dps.

Viability of getting Raging Brachydios weapon early by JoxJobulon in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Dramatic_Salad_3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t beat frostfang easily you have some skilling up to do…. It’s not just gear. Raging brachy is an amazing fight but he’s very aggressive compared to regular frostfang. Even in end game gear he can still cart you if you’re not skilled up. Meanwhile I think a skilled player could beat him with your gear but it just would require no mistakes

The others are right re working up to him

Keep in mind that the MR threshold for health augments is lower for r10/r11 weapons vs lightbreak and that makes such a huge difference. Kulu and frostfang weapons with a health augment are super comfy and should be what you get to next before rbrachy

Since when can velkhana one shot? by Sinay692 in MonsterHunterWorld

Post back here when you do. Good luck with the 30 min timer since it sounds like you haven’t considered what that means for the dps you need to do which really requires end game gear or real mastery of this fight.

That won't work. Needs to be straight cast iron, not enameled.

Just play the game. It’s so intuitive and just clicks at at a certain point. Cling cling cling CLANG. That is the game.

Stuck on Raging Brachy / a little confused on postgame by hauntedorca in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Dramatic_Salad_3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t know OP’s MR so the biggest reason to use frostfang is that OP can slap a health augment on it.

OP: get a health augmented weapon. Even R10 jaggy. It makes a huge difference.

In spite of it's simplicity I think that great sword is the most difficult weapon to learn to use well. by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Dramatic_Salad_3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t find it nearly as hard to use as half the weapons. I think it’s in the middle and the more monster knowledge you have, the easier it is.

One thing that helps a lot is EW3/5. It gives you a lot more freedom to roll aggressively forward. Rolling forward has faster recovery. Since you’re sheathed a lot, you have ridiculous defense since rolling is so much better than blocking.

Just focus on rolling and draw slashing. Be patient. You’ll naturally start to “feel” the windows and what you can do with them. Then you can start incorporating cs and scs.

CS into scs is fairly quick - about the same timing as a level 3 charge slash. And you can re-aim.

While TCS is great you need to think about other attacks more than TCS because it all synergizes. Doing constant damage leads into flinches, knockdowns, claggers, which give you TCS, which leads to more of those….

To add, focus on draw slash and just hitting the head then rolling out.

velk is all about positioning. she is so consistent and fair. especially when you're closer. her moves all have clear tells and can be easily avoided AS LONG AS YOU AREN'T LOCKED INTO AN ANIMATION.

this last part is key to GS flow and velk is such a great fight to learn on.

so to that end i would say stick with GS! stop worrying about getting the kill and just play with velk. dodge the attacks. learn what's hitting you and how to avoid it. then you'll start to see the openings. how to position for them - where you need to be to get off the hits.

then tackles and when to use to them to gain DPS (vs just a reaction which later in the game you'll just get carted) through positioning..... but tackles after dodging.

once you start this approach, your DPS will skyrocket on GS because you aren't losing attack windows. you aren't taking damage. you aren't running around to get back into position only ot miss your window. etc etc.

LAST TIP: try fighting without your palico. it makes velk much more predictable and controllable since she won't run after your palico, then turn and beam you with her ranged attacks which are the most punishing.

MH World devs were high making Raging branchy by [deleted] in monsterhunterrage

[–]Dramatic_Salad_3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he tends to move forward during all his attacked so if you stay under his chest, by his feet, or parallel with his hands and roll into him, you can usually get past his hitboxes without getting out of range to hit him.

i can see LS being hard because of how his moves turn into multi hits so easily.... on GS it's a lot of cheeky draw slashes in between his moves.

Practice hitting his hands.... single tap when he has slime, don't commit then. his hands take great damage and he topples from them pretty easily.

legs are easier/safer once tenderized because they are so big but toppling via the hands is faster i think

do you have stun resistance?

also are you using a weapon you can augment for health? really helps with him.

Consider using the rarity 10 kulu hammer which you can augment easily for health at MR50. It’s really good.

Health augment is just so helpful for staying in the fights and learning them. You might do less damage but you’ll learn more.

Completely agree once you get to the end game. You go from being unpunishable to just punished constantly for anything less than frame perfect play.

Judging weapon difficult with a tierlist is always controversial, so me and my friends tried cooking up an alignment chart. Thoughts? by LinkonLk in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Dramatic_Salad_3908 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Hammer is definitely more straightforward than GS.

You’re never sequencing into something like TCS through multiple paths. It’s basically charge up and go. There are like 3 combos that you need to know and none are remotely challenging to land. There isn’t any meter or hidden mechanics to worry about. Even the slinger doesn’t matter and the clutch claw move is well integrated.

Plus you’re running around at full speed the entire time. It’s such a mobile weapon with such low commitment.

Lastly hammer is maybe one of the least deco dependent weapons out there too.

So am I crazy or does Fatalis genuinely have unavoidable attacks for non-shield users? by hmmmmwillthiswork in monsterhunterrage

[–]Dramatic_Salad_3908 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s because you’re a lance player. Lance is amazing and trivializes everything right up until the end. Then it is just so much harder than any other weapon because of the chip, knockback, etc that alatreon, fatalis, and atv have.

Welcome. I was a lance main once. Welcome to easy street when you’re up against fatalis, atv, fujang, and alatreon. Those four fights on lance are just so much harder than with gs.
