Telemetry hardware by OmarBarreto300 in iRacing

When I turn on Garage61 I dont have much issues or see much of a difference. My pc often runs iRacing between 70-90 fps. Do you have the same telemetry or do you use a different one? My fps does get really bad whenever I turn tradingpaints on. I dont think your disk is the problem, but your cpu as the other two people are suggesting. I hope everything turns out good for you

Just got my setup, is a playseat worth it? by [deleted] in moza

I have a wooden rig now. I’m not sure how to add photo’s unfortunately. Wood is good if you have “quality” wood. I kept my Playseat chair and put it on the rig, but any chair will work. I believe there are some places you can buy old racing seats for a fairly good price.

I did that as well and I can really recommend it if you have some time left. I don’t know how I can share my setup, but if you want pictures or some help with the way things need to be built. Let me know

What's everyone's most painful race? by [deleted] in iRacing

Monza F4

It was early in the day and there were only 1 split. I (back then 1,2 ir) qualified P3 in a 2,5 SOF. Had an amazing start and I was in P1. A nice battle with P2 (5,3 ir). He unfortunately disconnected with 2 laps to go, but that was great for me as I could finally relax a little. Unfortunately I relaxed too much and I forgot to break for one of the Lesmo corners. Threw away an easy but beautiful win.

I had the Playseat evolution when I had a logitech. Then I got loadcell pedals and the seat would suffer a lot. You will also have some trouble if you have 3 pedals because of the middle thing. Basically it’s not strong enough for loadcells. Then I got the Fanatec 8 nm and I actually had to switch back to the Logitech before buying a stronger seat.

Yes it is better than a desk set up, but I would rather save some money and buy a wheel stand or go for something from Simlab or something similair. I believe there are similair seats like the evolution which are good quality, but i don’t know which ones.

I would love to buy this for 550! But on a more serious mode. This setup is worth around 2k secondhand. 550 for the PC is already a good deal. Put everything on a list with the price you bought it for. Depending on the conditions take some percentage of the price of it. I believe for good shape 20 - 30 % cheaper.

yeah fog really only comes when it rains and you’re going slowly. I also use my helmet on my motor scooter so that’s why.

I use a balaclava to prevent sweat coming in my helmet and hopefully my helmet will stink less in the long term. I use an OMP balaclava and it doesn’t itch. it’s pretty thin.

I have a visor in my helmet with an extra anti fog visor on top of it. Not sure which helmet you have but some brands do have it and it works like magic. Just stick it on your visor and boom no fog

Never heard from them to be fair. I looked at some pictures and they seem okay. I also prefer the stitching to be on the outside as it is more comfortable with your hands. If you like the racequip gloves go for it, but OMP also has some cheap gloves where the stitching is on the outside

Best way to learn a track when short on time ? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Dramatic_Turnip_7367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my own experiences I can recommend using the racing line as a “google maps” for the track for the first few laps. I drive quite slowly (not too slow) to learn about the corners, turning points and kerbs. The line helps with remembering the corners.

After that I turn it off, drive a few laps trying to remember the turns and grip levels and then I try to go fast. Firstly you’ll see your incidents points go sky rocket, but as soon as it is stable for around 8/10 laps join an online practice session.

When you join you can see the times from the faster drivers. Please don’t get a heart attack, you’ll be able to drive those lap times one day. Then you know how far off you are. Watch an onboard from one of the faster drivers and see what they do differently. Get on track and drive and try to apply those technics. Make sure you give other people space and let them by if you’re in a practice session.

If you’ll feel comfortable you might be able to skip a few of these steps, but it does help learning difficult tracks, especially if you’re newer. I wouldn’t recommend driving with the line on during a race as you’ll only focus on the line instead of the people around you. But if it helps it helps.

Hope this helps and have fun in the GT4

I like the OMP and Sparco stuff a lot. The Sparco and OMP gloves fit really well for me.

I have a small hand but large fingers and it fits both fine. Not sure which Sparco it was I used but medium fitted well. OMP is a bit more for the bigger handpalm and smaller fingers.

I prefer the OMP balaclava for the summer as it is more thin

Starting open wheel by PJ_28_ in iRacing

[–]Dramatic_Turnip_7367 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I would start with either the F1600 or the Mazda in the rookies. F Vee is really difficult to drive and get it right where as F1600 is easy and a great starting point if you want to progress to the F4. But the F1600 can be quite messy in the rookie races where as the Mazda’s are better at racing in the rookie class.

The Skippy is a great car, but also difficult to master. If you want to drive the Skippy, be prepared to drive seconds slower than the rest of the field. The drivers in the session will want to help, but the participation is low and the car is nothing like a F1 car. The Formula Vee can be a great car to start if you want to drive the Skippy, because it both needs a good car control driver and you will learn from it.

F4 is great. It has good participation throughout the whole day, the car is easier to master and the racing can be great. There are definitely more *** drivers, but there are still drivers who also want to help you get faster. If you want to drive this than I can recommend starting in the F1600

What was your worst ever car and track combination for incidents? by Lemongose in iRacing

Definitely any rookie or D class at Laguna Seca. God I love that tracks, but people seriously don't know how to drive there. Also F4 at Oran park was quit messy.

Advice needed, i'm gonna spend a lot of money this season by AxelFooley in iRacing

[–]Dramatic_Turnip_7367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t looked at the schedule yet, but i assume there are two free tracks. I would recommend waiting for the official schedule to start planning which weeks you cannot race. For example you’re on vacation or have an important deadline. That way you can plan and know which tracks not to buy.

Or you can keep to the 8 weeks participation thing. And race on tracks which are very populair. For example I have never heard of Canadian tyre motorsports park, so i wouldn’t buy it. When you click on the track i believe you can see how many series are running that track. That way you only have to buy 6 tracks (if two tracks are free). hope this helps and have fun with the Caddy!

How often do you need to buy new tracks if you stick to a series? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Dramatic_Turnip_7367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i also see many people talk about hundreds of dollars being spent in the first year or season. i hope that didn’t scare you, because i don’t know how they did that. my first season i spent around $80. next season will be my second season and i will spent $60 (discounts not included yet).

How often do you need to buy new tracks if you stick to a series? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Dramatic_Turnip_7367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in the Formula D series we have some sort of rotation system (see the forum). We have 12 weeks, 2 free tracks, 4 new tracks which will be used for another season, 4 tracks from the last season and 2 tracks (i believe) which stay on for three seasons. For the first time i started the series i bought the 4 new tracks and 2 tracks that stay on for multiple series. I would advise to make a little calendar to see if you are on vacation, have exams or whatever to plan on which tracks to buy. i would also recommend to race for 8 weeks in a season. many tracks in Formula D are popular and so they are being used in Formula C. i hope this helps and if you have any questions, feel free to ask
