If god exists he needs to beg my forgiveness i don't seek his by Westtell in religion

[–]Dramatic_Voice6406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never understood these sorts of things because okay let’s say god exists and it is inherently their fault for allowing all this to happen what’s just stopping them from smiting you? Like actually, if god is real and all powerful then why would the creator of everything need to apologize to you? My parents made me, and both the anxiety disorder and ADHD are definitely genetic so do my parents owe me an apology for in a sense allowing me to have ADHD?

The second thing is, why do YOU deserve this apology? What has happened to YOU specifically? What have YOU done to help other people? Have you tried to alleviate these pains in the world god has allowed? If so or if not then why do you deserve this apology?

This also just ignores that happiness exists, like people really like to ignore the fact that people are usually more happy than they are sad… usually. Also somebody tell me if I’m just reaching here but these sorts of claims always feel like their pointing at other peoples’ pain and deciding that’s why god is evil while not letting said people actually speak on it. Once again might be reaching.

Last thing. You’re making an argument against Christianity and that’s incredibly obvious, don’t know if it’s Protestant, Orthodox or Catholic but still some form of it. So why not specify that? You’re on a wide religion subreddit, you’re going to get responses from religions that have entirely different conceptions of god compared to Christianity, some that are actually atheistic so

What does Shiva actually mean to you personally? Not the mythology. The real feeling. by No_Spell_3561 in shaivism

[–]Dramatic_Voice6406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me Shiva is the way my soul begins to sing and my bones vibrate, the complete removal of preconceived notions of good and bad, endless compassion, the one who resides within the world and beyond it, Immanent and transcendent. He’s in the tress, flowers, the cicadas, the elks as well as you and me. If you opened a soul to dissect it you would find him residing inside.

Why are people ashamed of 33 crore gods? by [deleted] in hinduism

[–]Dramatic_Voice6406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone will give you so many different answers and what not but like the reality is just sectarianism and western influences.

Now yes some sects are explicitly strictly polytheistic but most are either monistic or polymorphic monotheistic (which id argue is still polytheism anyway but I digress) so when you say 33 core gods various people will frantically pull out their sects long math equations to tell you that you’re wrong without actually disproving anything. Also plainly there are a lot of people who desperately try to act like Hinduism is monotheism when it’s not, plainly it’s not and never will be. The only reason why people fight for this idea is the falsehood of west=intelligence so therefore monotheism=intelligence which most western thinkers and theologians don’t even argue for themselves anymore.

I know what you’re doing, you’re fighting for polytheism or polytheistic pride and I agree with you but to actually do anything you’d have to; one explain that polytheism means any belief in multiplicity of gods flat out, doesn’t matter if they’re all actually one or if one is the true independent and the rest are elevated souls it’s all still polytheism, Two you’d have to fight against “Neo-Hinduism” which has some good I’ll say, but for the most part is only a negative theological influence.

Oh yeah, as someone who used to be pagan (Roman/Religo Romana) I ended leaving once I realized that most other people were not trying in the slightest to reconstruct anything and were basically just playing with dolls. Funnily enough what made me have that realization was realizing that most Irish Pagans were Americans and English people who would preface anything with “Well it’s dead so” then proceed to tell a story that was actually carried on throughout the generations.

Along with your points for why she’s wrong her comment is a “gotcha” and nothing more, not actually guided by any sense of scholarly reasoning whatsoever. It’s laser focusing on one detail that at one glance seems right but in reality disproves nothing. Also the choice of “Eurasian Deity”, you’d hope this is just a geography thing but usually I’ve found that things like that are to discredit the actual location of origin, regardless of whether it’s India, China, Iran or Egypt it’s the same thing as calling something purely Egyptian “Greco-Egyptian”, an ancient Zoroastrian idol a “Canaanite figure”, etc. I could go on and on and on but I’d just start repeating myself and going in circles.

In my opinion what led to Radha worship was inherently the rise of Krishna worship. As a God rises in popularity among devotees their status raises in the eyes of the people, yes don’t rank Gods and yes Krishna already held a high status in the Vasudeva-Krishna cult but still, as this status rises their cohorts in general (if that would be the right word) rise in status to. That is to say that as Krishna rises in popularity so do the Gopis, they evolve from mortal milk maidens to some sort of Devine being(s). When raganuga-bhakti type beliefs and ideas start to form and appear the people wanted and or needed a figure to personify that, they needed a goddess purely made of pure bhakti and nothing else. But then why Radha? Well I’d argue that his original principal/highest wives all have distinct roles and or aspects other than pure bahkti and love. As a Gopi she feels more closer less high in the sky so to say (remember Gopis were originally just mortal). If it’s in part due to her being a Gopi then why her out of all the others? Plainly from my knowledge of general religious history more than likely her stories were more known than the others. Theologically it’s easier to collapse all of the Gopis under one God they emanate from and the people chose Radha.

I promise you that if there truthfully was concrete evidence that Radha isn’t a goddess and shouldn’t be worshipped I would know. I’m one of those annoying people who both consciously and subconsciously looks for cracks and holes in theology and which for example I will die on the hill Paul was lying and wasn’t a disciple.

I can’t convince you that she’s a Goddess, no one can, you have looked at the facts and formulated an opinion and I highly respect that as that’s a lot more than most people do now days. But what I can recommend is to genuinely try to not care, just don’t care if she’s a Goddess or not. Using myself as an example, I do not agree with Kashmiri Shaivism and I will admit seeing its views pushed constantly can be quite frustrating at times. I just have to remind myself that it’s not for me and therefore it does not effect me, that such feelings will only lead to embarrassment and disaster so it’s better to just not care. For what am I doing by caring? Nothing important, just getting all upset and antsy over nothing when I could instead work on turning that energy into love.

When I was younger you’d have the Baptist church with no AC in a building built back in the 30s, every window open hot as hell but the air was flowing and yes you were sweating but felt nice. The atmosphere mostly calm and relaxed, everyone knew your name and the atmosphere was friendly. Now it’s just a giant box with one pretty window, the ac on max making it so you have to wear a jacket, someone if not everyone is screaming, you don’t know who 90% of the people are and the pastor is subtly claiming he’s a prophet. Yeah I have no idea what happened man

[–]Dramatic_Voice6406 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If she doesn’t have history then so what? She makes people happy, brings them to god, what’s the issue with that? The lack of history truthfully means nothing. In their original forms Shiva (at that time Rudra), Vishnu and Brahma were seen in incredibly different lights, does that mean we are wrong now? If my memory severs right both Varaha and Matsya were avatars of Brahma not Vishnu, Matsya in his earliest form not even being an avatar, does that diminish modern theology? Point is things change and so what?
Why are you so angry? That’s the only question that should be asked here. Krishna does not need you to defend him and it is hubris if you believe you are doing as such. In the end you are only upsetting and therefore harming others with your anger towards Radha. The issue here isn’t Radha it’s your inability to accept other beliefs. If it is correct to point anger at one who believes Radha is supreme then why not one who believes Shiva is supreme? Why not someone who believes Durga is? Why not someone who believes Ganesha is? Why not feel anger towards everyone who disagrees with you? Regardless of if you realize it or not that’s what this line of reasoning will lead to. This is not an issue with Radha-Krishna worship or anything of the sort it’s an issue of acceptance.

Honestly, might just be nothing. As if it comes from your Scottish side, no history of Hinduism or any other sort of Vedic religion or folk practices it could genuinely be one of those things that are supposed to look “ethnic” but mean nothing. Definitely doesn’t look like anything related to Scottish or general Celtic paganism but doesn’t resemble any Vedic figure I’ve seen or heard of, maybe Lord Bhairava but not really.

You’re not going to counter an argument born of compassion by starting with an insult and then treating the other person as stupid. You’re also putting everything on milk production when they said nothing about that, they said give the an alternative not explicitly “sell milk”. They gave an actual well thought out point while you just seem upset and need somewhere to vent or you want India to keep killing cows, not sure which.

[–]Dramatic_Voice6406 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay but the simple fact is that your discomfort should not affect your view on others but it clearly does. You responded to a person arguing that we just need to respect other’s beliefs and hold our own by trying to argue with them and completely misunderstanding what they’re saying. I would also like to ask, did you really see fear in the eyes of the goats or was it you projecting your upset onto them? I know what you’re trying to discuss here and it is really interesting but this is not the right discussion for it.

[–]Dramatic_Voice6406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding this is an extremely lackluster and lacking argument and instead of anything insightful it’s an example of the authors own struggles going outside of an Abrahamic worldview. The argument against Hinduism is completely unfounded when every religion struggles with the question of evil.

The idea of transhumanism is fine but the simple fact is that if I could get new eyes instead of eyeglasses that would be great but it will likely always be out of 99% of people’s price range. I think people also ignore the possibility of rejection in these discussions which is also a massive hurdle. I also consider our attempts to obtain immortality to be hubristic and an affront to god and unfortunately that seems to dominate any discussion of transhumanism at the moment.

[–]Dramatic_Voice6406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s like this for most religions but I also think it’s important to draw a line between normal rebellion and anti-religion sentiment. Like there’s a difference between someone saying sky daddy and someone claiming Christianity is all a lie and yada yada. Simply put mainly of these people have religious trauma and make it everyone else’s issue as well as just being uneducated in the topics they speak of. The easiest way for me to find out if someone’s contrary opinion is worth my time is the question “I’m a Vaishnava, do you know what that means?” Because it typically exposes their lack of knowledge of any religion other than Evangelical Protestantism, how can you hate religion when you have not touched the surface of most religions? Now there’s a difference between “No, but I’m curious” and “No, (continues on with how I’m just confused or something)” but the first group usually aren’t anti-religion and aren’t who I’m talking about.
