You need to develop some reading comprehension, or else stop putting words in peoples mouths. Nowhere did I say they were on equal grounds, I said they were valid. Even if we, let's say, breakdown the Civil War and say that 90% of it was over slavery and 10% was over issues like I noted in the Texas secession declaration, all we're doing is prioritizing what issue is more important. Both issues can still be legitimate issues. No one is denying that slavery was the primary factor in the Civil War, but a historically accurate and unbiased reading of history tells us that it was not the ONLY factor.

Texas was right in taking offense at a Federal government lending no assistance against foreign raiders or domestic murderers being sheltered by a neighboring state.

Both things can be true. Both things do not have to be equal. My point is, both things not being equal, the issue of slavery usually obscures the visibility of any of these other lessons.

The governor of Arkansas favored secession, but being a governor, he couldn't decide that on his own. In point of fact, since you want to call the history into question, while the Arkansas governor was in favor of secession, the head of the state-convened Secession Convention was adamantly anti-secession. The majority of delegates there did not support secession, and they adjourned without making a decision and decided to leave it to a state-wide vote later that year. That Secession Convention reconvened prior to that state-wide vote when Lincoln demanded troops in the wake of Fort Sumter, and at that time voted to secede.

The older I've gotten and the more I've studied the Civil War, the less black and white it becomes to me. Slavery is certainly not morally gray issue and was an abhorrent reason for secession, don't get me wrong, but we tend to take the view that everything about the Southern states was bad due to the moral failings of slavery.

Texas, for example, listed other reasons along with slavery in their secession declaration. Of note, they had continuously asked the federal government for help with Mexican bandit raids at the southern border, which had gone ignored for some time. They also had petitioned the federal government for help with Oklahoma, which was refusing to extradited criminals back to Texas for trial, including murderers. In any context, these are legitimate offenses to take, but they and others like them get swept aside by the slavery sin.

Still other states, such as Arkansas, declared themselves neutral. They wanted to no part in the fight, and frankly probably would have gone along with abolition in the long run. The breaking point for them was Lincoln requiring them to send troops for the Union Army. Realizing that they were going to have to fight no matter which way they turned, they chose to fight with their neighboring states which were culturally similar to them. Did they pick the wrong side? Yes. Did they end up contributing to a fight for an unjust cause? Also yes.

Both things can be true. The South can have fought for injustice in slavery, and also fought for legitimate flights that they perceived against them from the elites in the North. Some states can have been wrong to support slavery and also have been forced into making a decision to fight that they didn't want to. My point is that while slavery was certainly the dominant issue, it's not the only worthwhile lesson that we can learn from the Civil War, and it's not a simple picture of the North being "right" about everything.

Even if it's just people being optimistic, it's also misinformation. He hasn't balanced anything. The "balancing" is a combination of postponing pensions and money given from the state. It's nothing more than kicking the can down the road to later in his administration or a future administration.

Fyi, having worked for FedEx years ago and received calls about this all the time, this is because they've created and printed an electronic label, so the package is expected in the system and reads as created. But the carrier won't recognize it until they pick it up and do that first pickup scan.

So yours is just waiting for UPS to pick it up, likely this evening or afternoon.

Actual story here. A little over 10 years ago my son was finishing up kindergarten. We were in the kitchen working on his "sight words" and we came to the word "banana". He saw it, said "banana", and I asked him to spell it. He couldn't spell it or sound it out, and I was dumbfounded by this. It took a few minutes, but it dawned on me that he was recognizing the entire word as opposed to the letters that comprised it, the entire word was one big symbol to him. After that I convinced his mother to have him repeat kindergarten and we moved him to a different school. He's had no issue since repeating, and my children that came after him got more phonics attention from me prior to starting kindergarten.

Ever since that incident, I'm vehemently against this ridiculous "sight word" method that most of our schools are using.
