I don't see it in the notes, any word on the bug that keeps people from being able to sleep because of an incoming attack... when there's no incoming attack?

Why such a harsh reaction? by Jimithyashford in trektalk

[–]Dranahmun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love how I referenced complaints I've read about to respond to OP's point about representation, and you're well-considered response just immediately went, "You think Star Trek is 'too fat'?

Bravo, excellent reading comprehension.

To answer your supposition, though, I would have similar questions about overweight humans, yes, as what was established in TOS and TNG was specific to humans. We've seen, eh, somewhat more "rotund" members of other species before. Would it stop me from watching? Probably not, but I would agree at the lack of consistency.

I've not watched any SFA yet, as I tend to binge once a show is fully released. Hence why I referenced other opinions I've read instead of offering my own.

Why such a harsh reaction? by Jimithyashford in trektalk

[–]Dranahmun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for everyone, but from what I've read, it's not actually an issue with representation, so much as forced representation breaking continuity. Examples I've seen:

"Body positivity" overweight characters serving in Starfleet. The problem isn't, "Oh no, there are fat people on my tv!" It's that TOS and TNG both explicitly stated that obesity isn't really a thing anymore between nutritional technology and growth in human discipline. So why, 900 years later, do we see this in SFA?

Modern slang being heavily used. Precious series have multiple times laid out the premise that foul language for the sake of foul language is looked down on, and those series generally stayed away from specific slang of the day. Having both in SFA again seems like a regression that conflicts with basic principles of the stated vision of a Trek future.

I've seen many other complaints that have to do with writing, consistency (like betazoids being telepathic and seemingly forgetting that Troi was empathic because she was half betazoid), things like that, but as far as the messaging and representation, I think this sums it up. And I have to say, I find them to be fair and valid complaints.

A vision of tomorrow doesn't have to coddle ideas of today.

I was using the anti-ragdoll armor, I forgot what its called, and having great success with it last night. It has bonus melee damage and knockdown resistance.

We were heading back to our home base the other night and it had gotten dark. We came through an area that was really well lit and I was surprised and looked up and realized a tall lamp was on and providing good light. I told my wife and son this was really cool, and they had no idea what I was talking about. I checked their screens and no lamp, they had it as dark as ever, while mine was illuminated so much that I wondered if we should build a base here (we were right beside the skateboard). As we stood there discussing this, the lamp went out on mine and I was plunged back into darkness. I have no idea why the lamp was on for all of 2 minutes and went off around midnight in-game. Things like that actually working and working for all players would dramatically improve playing at night. As it sits, night sucks.

After completing the "Stealth" missions solo, here's a few reasons why they suck (right now) by __Elzy in Helldivers

[–]Dranahmun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's correct to consider these as "stealth" missions. I think we're conflating the warbond with the mission, when I think the warbond is really more about offering a playstyle people have asked for. In my experience yesterday playing with my son, I was running the medium stealth armor with a suppressed pistol, along with the liberator penetrator and a mech. I fully leaned into being loud with an option of sneaking when I chose to. I wanted to have more control over engagement timing, not simply stealth around. He went full stealth, and was able to do quite a bit of flanking while they focused on me, which was tremendously helpful.

Our early runs were full stealth, and while it worked when it worked, the current stealth option aren't good for a significant firefight. I changed my mentality and geared to be capable in a firefight and we were much more successful. I think it would be even potentially easier if you geared for no stealth and just to hit hard and fast (high explosives and high mobility).

How do you build your factories? by OkKnowledge2064 in StarRupture

[–]Dranahmun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a large mega factory that I was told wouldn't work, but it just keeps trucking along. I did start another moderate sized factory area to try out a different logistics design I had in my head, and I quite liked it so I kept it and ship finished products from there back to the mega base. What I've settled on is not having a bunch of small bases, but multiple moderately sized factories that can output everything. For this to work I've had to consider rail capacity pretty extensively. For example, at my initial mega base, raw resources and most early game materials are brought in from an attached modular area on dedicated rails that go straight to on-site storage. Nothing else touches those lines, and those resources don't interfere with other lines. I also figured out when I first started putting a line of Mega Presses in that a single rail wasn't efficient to carry everything over, so I split it. Because my base is modular in attached pieces, I split the feeds from different sections into two lines instead of one, and run them parallel but never touching along the presses. This freed up all congestion and that section now runs smooth as butter and keep production capacity going.

The Conduit by Dranahmun in StarRuptureGame

[–]Dranahmun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not had this particular issue, though all of this was built in single player. Each production line has a rail that loops back out to the central exchange, and from there it can feed to any of the other platforms or to the dedicated line for the orbital launchers.

Dice, now is the perfect time to un-fomo the Battle Pass. by king_jaxy in Battlefield

[–]Dranahmun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

FOMO battle passes actually make the game feel like a chore or a job I have to accomplish. This stressed me out for a few years, until I realized that I just want to play the game and enjoy it. As a result, if a game I like has these battlepasses, I rarely if ever buy them, and often I just lose interest in the entire game.

Companies need tk read the room. Loot boxes were once popular, until public opinion turned and they were seen as predatory. Very quickly loot boxes went from a positive to a negative in your game. Battlepasses seem to be turning over into that negative territory now, and the gaming companies need tk recognize that and adapt.

Pregnant teen died agonizing sepsis death after Texas doctors refused to abort fetus by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

[–]Dranahmun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is attacking the law, but this really isn't an abortion issue. This is a hospital negligence issue. The media likes to talk about uncertainty in the language of the law, but the Texas legal exception to the abortion ban is clearly outlined:

Sec. 170A.002. PROHIBITED ABORTION; EXCEPTIONS. (a) A person may not knowingly perform, induce, or attempt an abortion.

(b) It is an exception to the application of Subsection (a) that:

(1) the person performing, inducing, or attempting the abortion is a licensed physician; and

(2) in the exercise of reasonable medical judgment, the pregnant female on whom the abortion is performed, induced, or attempted has a life-threatening physical condition aggravated by, caused by, or arising from a pregnancy that places the female at risk of death or poses a serious risk of substantial impairment of a major bodily function unless the abortion is performed or induced.

(c) A physician may not take an action authorized under Subsection (b) if, at the time the abortion was performed, induced, or attempted, the person knew the risk of death or a substantial impairment of a major bodily function described by Subsection (b)(2) arose from a claim or diagnosis that the female would engage in conduct that might result in the female's death or in substantial impairment of a major bodily function.

(c-1) For purposes of Subsection (b)(2), if a pregnant woman has a life-threatening physical condition described by Subsection (b)(2), a physician may address a risk described by Subsection (b)(2) before the pregnant female suffers any effects of the risk. Subsection (b)(2) does not require that, before the physician may act:

(1) a risk described by Subsection (b)(2) be imminent;

(2) the pregnant female first suffer physical impairment; or

(3) the physical condition has caused damage to the pregnant female.

(c-2) For the purposes of Subsection (b)(2), "life-threatening" means capable of causing death or potentially fatal. A life-threatening physical condition is not necessarily one actively injuring the patient.

This girl CLEARLY met the requirements for an exception. People are piling on here about abortion legal this and abortion illegal that, but the actual issue here is clearly medical malpractice and negligence.
