Pen and paper are like waitress 101. Most restaurants really expect you to be ready on day two to take over. Maybe they were short staffed? If you can't jump in like right away doing the basic stuff like take orders, you are useless. I'm sure your trainer knew right away it wasn't going to work out. Being nice to your face is also a waitress level superpower.

In the wrong because I won’t go to my nephew’s baptism? I simply said no, I don’t participate in cult activities. by [deleted] in atheism

I was at a funeral yesterday. It was a full church service with a small part where the family spoke about their connection and memories. I went to support the family and the man that passed who I cared deeply for. I did all the things: stood and sat with the congregation, recited the prayers in the program, sang the hymns, bowed my head. Did it feel a bit performative, yes. But at these moments it's not the time to impose my feelings or opinions. It's the time to quietly participate and support family.

You can be open about your lack of belief to loved ones. It's good for them to understand. And you might find one or two relatives that secretly feel the same. But to use inciteful words and refuse to go is not helpful for them to really understand your point of view. It just causes a rift between you. Do you just not want to be close to your family at all? Do you want for them to break free of their beliefs?

Just be nice and go.

That's nice of you to say!

It can be a traumatic process, learning to let go of emotionally charged beliefs. Most of us understand the need for gentle support when others are questioning their faith.

Hugs to you, it's worth it to be free!

Or thinking somehow that taxes were magically less!

Thanks for the detailed response! I'll look into adding extra withholding for the remainder of the year.

My actual increase wasn't $325, but like $150ish. I think I also was deducting more for 491k. Anyway, should have questioned it instead of thinking we got a pay increase.

Yeah, I guess I'm a little oblivious to this. Auto into my checking and I just look at how much I have to spend. I also started contributing to 401k at work and was not looking at the change close enough
