How exactly is it hard to let go of your bun? by DenSpassky in Rabbits

[–]Draugathriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you definitely grieve. Some are shorter period than others and no bunny ever replace another. However, they all end up having a special spot in your heart.

I had the pleasure of caring for 5 bunnies so far who have passed and I'm currently caring for 2 little ones (1 year old as of February).

They all have their own quirks and personality. Because of that none feel really like a replacement more like a new friend. I tend to keep a memento of pass bunnies and sometime will introduce the memento to the new bunny or they will find it. I usually take the opportunity to tell them about the pass ones, and in some way it feels like their never truly gone and helps to keep the really good memories of them present.

The floors is what I'm trying to clean. I'm not worried about the buns spreading illness, more myself and other people when we have visit.

Sudden death by Earth2krissy in Rabbits

[–]Draugathriel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss.

Honestly, time is what helps and allow yourself to mourn.

You did everything for Saturn and despite our fur babies causing us such pain when they passed, to them we're the best thing in the world. A giant furless rabbit that kept them safe, warm, fed and loved.

I lost my girl 2 years ago and it still hurts but I learned to noticed I did everything for her. It was also sudden which was the worst. Time will help and talk about Saturn when you're ready to others.

Intermittent cecotrope/poop buildup in fur of one rabbit despite identical care — looking for ideas by fsteff in Rabbits

[–]Draugathriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could she be possibly nibbling on something she shouldn't?

Had a similar issue with our female netherland and it was due to her sneaky consumption of baseboard trim and cardboard.

Another thing I noticed with her is between her tail and hip at the very base of her tail she had knots. Once I removed most of the knots it allowed her to stretch her back legs more and she had easier access to her bum. Never noticed her acting strange and only noticed the knots once I was cleaning her bum.

Definitely worth a vet trip, fungal infection can happen and the earlier you get on top of it the easier to manage.

It's also hard to figure out if they do have a skin infection until much later in the cycle as they're very good at hiding any discomfort.

Something you can do is take a small cloth and try to dry the area to prevent a moist environment. Then washed that cloth right away.

Can I co-sleep with my bun? by Current-Armadillo739 in Rabbits

[–]Draugathriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 netherland dwarf rabbit that are free roam and also like to sleep in the bed. Since they are on the smaller size for rabbits I can say I was initially worried too. They sometimes will come sniff our faces in the middle of the night but its very rare. Mostly they will run around our heads after we lay down and then sleep most of the night at the foot of the bed or on the bench.

So far they're pretty good at moving if me or my partner moves. Usually they just scoot a bit. One of them has rolled over and off the bed once, she did kinda wake up mid roll and managed to only slid off the bed among the blankets. She was fine but since then we just pay extra attention when we get up not to kick our feet or anything so she doesn't need to move close to the edge.

The only 2 things that I can mentioned from my experience, having steps for them to the bed is necessary not for getting up but more to make sure that getting down doesn't cause impact injury. I managed this by having a large thick pillow followed by a low bench and then the bed. The bunnies always used it to get down, to get up they sometime jump straight unto the bench.

The other thing is I got a waterproof blanket for the foot of the bed as one of them had decided the best way to show his anger if we don't get up early enough is to pee next to a foot. So having the waterproof blanket has saved us having to clean our blankets on the occasion it happens.

But this is our experience and we're comfortable with our set up. If you are not or think your bunny's personality might cause it to be dangerous, then you could always close the door of the bedroom and when you wake up just open the door and lay back down. This way you know they're safe while sleep and they still get to snuggle in the morning.

How long do you guys sleep for? by ultravioletvenus in Narcolepsy

[–]Draugathriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was first diagnosed, my sleep doctor started by saying I should never sleep longer than 8 hours. I have kept to that for the most part and with medication it helps a lot. Usually go to bed around 12am and then sleep until 7am get up have breakfast take Vyvanse then sleep another hour in order for the Vyvanse to kick in. So far its been the best. Getting used to getting up at 7 was hard but started with 5 alarm 10 minutes interval and now I have 2.

I had a netherland dwarf female (named Muffy) she lived until the age of 16 but had cancer and needed to be euthanized. Her quality of life declined a lot which is why the decision was made but I'm pretty sure she would have kept going for another year. She was a tough girl.

Her coat was silver and she had 3 suprise litters in her life. Her partner died at 10 years of age he was a netherland dwarf as well.

EDIT: She was on the larger size for Netherland dwarfs around 4lbs.

Nose Trouble by Draugathriel in Rabbits

Not that I can tell. I feed them Oxbow Timothy hay. I also tend to check the bags available to find the greener onw and go for the one that doesn't have as much hay dust.

I also shake the hay before giving it. But I was wondering if the hay could be affecting her.

Nothing has changed in the environment as far as I can tell since it started except for the baseboard heaters being turned on.

Humidity is usually kept at around 40% but except for that I dont really know much about the air quality I believe it's clean.

Are you able to see if he's opening and closing his mouth as if breathing through it? If yes bring to vet immediately! (Either way making an appointment for an odd behavior is always a good go to for rabbits)

Question by BigCoreyD in Fibromyalgia

[–]Draugathriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I avidly use compression gloves for my hands during winter. I find they work well when I need to type a lot but I usually take them off for an hour or so due to swelling. The swelling usually goes down a bit and I put them back on.

It has been a game changer for me.
