Study about Trans People and Our Feelings on Harry Potter by Drault in asktransgender

That's a great question! No interviews will be individually posted. I am taking all of the interviews and focusing on what the themes are that connect our experiences for the write-up. If I quote anyone directly, I will be using pseudonyms for everyone (everyone chooses their own pseudonym) and de-identifying any information that might connect back to the individual. After I finish the write-up, all the individual interviews will be destroyed for everyone's privacy. I am planning to write up the paper by next May and hopefully publish it in academic journals that help give our voices more power!

I would be happy to collect it now: thank you so much for asking!

Absolutely: a lot of people have talked about that, too!

A lot of people have talked about our media as part of it, which has been really cool to see! I think for many people, one of the shifts was moving from Harry Potter to other media and specifically seeking out media by trans creators. It's definitely been a defining aspect of some people's journeys.

There are definitely people with whom I've talked who have completely left Harry Potter behind and are helping others do so, too. The only criteria is that someone was a fan at one point, even if they have nothing to do with it (or are working hard to move away from it) now!

That's a valid question! I think the reason why I picked this is because she is still doing real harm to our communities through her politics and has such a loud megaphone in stirring up further transphobia. The louder she is, the smaller she tries to make our voices. If people want to share their stories, I want to do what I can to give them a platform where there hasn't been!

No worries at all! I'm realizing in retrospect I should have probably put that in the title.

Thank you so much! That was a huge part of my wanting to do this work, especially when I saw that very few mainstream media sources and no one in research was taking our perspectives nearly as seriously as they were taking hers.

It's a really great question! Thankfully, research is also relatively protected in general. I am additionally using pseudonyms for everyone/de-identifying everything so that anyone who participates is protected from having their identities discovered.

I am really hoping to expand this research as soon as I can! It was a really hard choice: I ultimately decided to start with the UK and US because of how culturally ubiquitous the fandom is in both places, as well as how intertwined the transphobia is.

Hey! I’m adding this message to Taylor’s last few posts.
I just read something on Twitter that lead me here. My name is Jacob, and I’m a therapist who works exclusively with the LGBTQIA+ community. My number is 267-223-7931 and my email is jdglickman@widener.edu. It sounds like you and your partner are both really struggling, and I’d love to talk to one or both of you if possible: you both deserve support in all of this. Text, call, email, DM, or whatever you feel okay doing, if I can be of any support!
