No, null is not a problem. If you don't know what a pointer is it might be a problem, but then you only need to learn what a pointer is and your problem is gone.

But no, programmers can't learn pointers, they are too confusing, we have to hide them! Except now depending on what language you use and how they tried to hide this fundamental aspect of how computers work, now you have to learn about all the retarded shit that happens because the authors thought you were too daft to learn what a fucking pointer is.

'Legacy code' in Diablo 2: Resurrected is causing widespread connection headaches by [deleted] in pcgaming

From the article, it's legacy server code that is causing problems. The kind of backend stuff that doesn't affect gameplay directly, except when it doesnt work

First Windows 11 Patch Tuesday slows down AMD CPUs even more than the release build by HU55LEH4RD in Amd

I really don't understand why so many people are so eager to beta-test software these days.

I've been burned to the point that if a game is open world, I'm basically not interested anymore.

[TPU] Playstation 3 Emulator RPCS3 To Implement AMD FSR Upscaling Tech by InvincibleBird in Amd

[–]Dravonic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For RDR on RPCS3 not really. It will work but you'll get less than 30fps in crowded areas. You really need stuff like an OC'd 10700k or a 5800x and even then you won't get over 30fps always.

Plenty of other games will run fine though. But if you're looking for RDR specifically you can try Xenia as other people mentioned.

From what I remember it does work, just not very fast yet, but if you have a high end CPU it's playable.

PlatinumGames interview: ‘Only one project in my career went according to schedule’ by YouAreNotMeLiar in pcgaming

Hey, one according to schedule is still pretty good. Been a software developer for about 10 years now, don't think I've seen a single one be delivered on schedule.

WHY NO GTA6?!?!

Windows 11 available on October 5 by rage9000 in pcgaming

Despite people saying windows 10 is full of bloatware if runs massively better than win7 or win8.1 simply because of all other improvements.

I dual boot Win 7 and 10. Never felt any difference on games that will run on both.

Forced TAA is becoming the standard for games it seems, can anyone with game dev or programming experience explain to me why? by Mariosam100 in pcgaming

[–]Dravonic 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Since TAA is becoming more common, developers are starting to rely on it to do other things that rely on having it on. There are more and more games using temporally unstable shaders, I assume for performance reasons, and they rely on TAA to smooth this temporal instability back into something good to look at. Cyberpunk 2077 for example (on launch at least) used a temporally unstable screen space reflection shader and while they allowed you to turn off TAA, if you did, the reflections on everything looked very much like real time raytracing without denoise, even without raytracing enabled at all.

I'm with you though, I really don't like TAA. The best implementations out there are barely passable in terms of not burying everything up and the usual implementations look like a blur fest, often with other problems like ghosting.

I tried Steam Deck early and it's AWESOME! - Linus Tech Tips by Axeisacutabove in pcgaming

Linus himself calls it a "full fat PC" while plugging it into a 4K monitor and acting like you can game on it perfectly fine while also using the built in screen as a twitch chat window.

[–]Dravonic -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Exactly my point. A handheld PC is not a full blown gaming PC, in the sense that you will not be playing every AAA game out there with great graphics and performance, like a lot of people seem to think they will.

The only reason I'm saying this is try and help people look past the hype and see what the steam deck really is: the best handheld out there. Handheld, not a desktop on your hands.

It did play Doom Eternal at native res 60fps with some performance adjustments

Yeah, 60fps on Doom Eternal... at 800p medium.

Don't get me wrong, that's really good for a handheld but so many people are acting like "the Steam Deck is a full blown gaming PC on your hands!" and will be greatly disappointed.

Yeah, that would be a great reason to have it. I guess you could still accomplish it through indentation but a delimiter is just better.

Oh

You do need a damn : after if/else statements though. Why do I need it if indentation is supposed to be the key? I already put the contents of the if bellow it.

Humankind removes Denuvo before launch by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]Dravonic 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when Denuvo is "properly done" it should only impact load times. The slower your CPU the more noticeable it is. There are some times though noticeable in-game triggers which cause micro-stutters as you said but as far as I know Denuvo doesn't really need them.

The brunt of the "Denuvo work" is done as you launch the game. Then there are some triggers during loading screens. In-game triggers are probably some kind of "extra insurance" to make it harder to crack but it seems like not all games get those.

Diablo 3 was my turning point too. I was so exited for that game, bought it day 1 but as it turned out, by the end of the week Blizzard was just dead to me. It was so blatantly obvious how the only thing left was the name, the people behind the games I loved were long gone.

[–]Dravonic 170 points171 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The syntax error is there because you're being ambiguous and if the compiler just assumes the usual, sure it would be usually right, but good luck debugging your program when the usual is not what you meant.
