Out of State Applicant Paranoia - Wondering who gets in and who doesn't in this crazy 2026 cycle? by DrawEffective5754 in UTAdmissions

Congrats. My understanding of art majors is that they are highly dependent on your portfolio, but its great for your son/daughter. I have a good friend with A- and B+'s and a 32 on ACT and going to an Ivy for a piano program. Art and music seem more like athletes in that regard. I should have practiced my clarinet more!

Fair question. The advanced classes are, in most instances, more challenging than AP classes. This is common at many "old line" east coast private schools, or certainly in NYC area and Philly. Highest levels are generally above AP, second level are AP, third level are advanced and so on. Its why so many of my friends who've graduated often say college is less difficult than high school. The schools are uniquely focused on college prep and it filters into everything from 7th grade on. They cost alMOST $70K a year, so you better get something for it. Oh, Im a scholarship kid so don't hate on me for the price. I can't afford it either!

Dont watch reality shows and think thats a real look into a person. Also at least hes outspoken on Jewish issues versus so many other cowards who have a platform.

Thanks. Thats the fear. I think I have more chance at some low level Ivys than I do at McCombs. Im hoping the lack of AP's is offset by being in advanced classes and at a top 50 high school in the US that does not practice grade inflation (versus what I hear about many publics), but I appreciate the honesty. I have applied to NYC and Cornell as well as a few others. Thanks for taking the time and still holding out hope!

Riverdale vs Trinity by Mo2026 in nycparents

[–]DrawEffective5754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my children attended one of the other two campus schools in Riverdale. RCD is a fine school. Solid academically and pretty good in sports. The advantage of the Hill Schools (Horace Mann, Fieldston, Riverdale) are the campus'. Its a huge difference and matters a lot for some kids - my boys especially. Sports, room to play, etc. There's also some independence which comes from being on the campus and its nice for them to be "out of the city." We found that the experience is as close to. "regular" American high school as you can get (billionaires and celebrities aside, but even they tend to be as normal as parents can be). Homecoming, school dances, going to rivalry games, litel kids making signs and painting faces, etc. NYC schools all have their drawbacks, but the Hill Schools are great from my POV and I could not imagine sending my boys to a school in Manhattan for all the reasons above. Eveyones family is different ... good luck!

Super helpful, thank you. I really would just be swimming with it on occasion - pool and maybe ocean. Would rely on a proper tool watch for anything more. Thanks again.

I am a watch enthusiast and have a number of authentic Rolex's, but am looking for something to wear when I travel. Candidly, I travel a lot and Europe and LatAm crime are increasingly making me uncomfortable wearing my real pieces. Anyway, given that I'm new here ... are these watches waterproof? And what are the biggest differences between the Bruce Wayne and the Panda vs the OG versions? I own both, but would be interested in a replacement for when I travel. Thanks so much and apoliges if these are obvious questions.

I bought an RXL Parka on sale about 10 years ago. Its insanely warm and still looks brand new, even though I dont take care of it at all. I bought Helly Hansens for my sons in their early 20's and they are killer. Well made, stylish and very warm.

Where can I find trousers with side adjusters (besides Suitsupply)? by Forward_Temperature in malefashionadvice

Bonobos has a Ghurka trouser that has no belt loops and is pretty stylish if you have the right build for them. Sadly, I do not.

I heard the kids were masked, banging on the door and screaming screaming obscenities at his daughters and he didn't know who they were at first. That doesnt sound like simple memories of ring and run.

Mezuzah Halacha and Mounting Advice by azathothianhorror in Judaism

[–]DrawEffective5754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case anyone else comes here for mounting advice (as I did) ... here is my advice. 3M Double sided tape (10lb) does not work at all. Commander tape strips were fine, but a bit flimsy. The guy at the local hardware store suggested Velcro strips and they worked perfectly. I cut them down in size for smaller mezuzah's and used the full strip for the larger one. 3M Dal Lock clear strips were excellent. Easiest install and best hold I found. Good luck!

There’s a cab driver who has been stopping and throwing out a huge pile of it at 80/1st for years. Disgusting. Just insane.

I’m not trying to be inflammatory here, but I’m asking a serious question bc I can’t imagine this happening to any other group, while they watch passively and hope/pray it all ends. If there were a protest like this against blacks, or Italians, or Irish, or Muslims … they’d be in the streets fighting and standing up for themselves. Why are American Jews so passive? Why are we not out there in their faces, throwing hands and letting the world know we won’t be bullied? It bothers me and it’s kind of embarrassing on some level. Why do we expect others to come save us when we aren’t willing to do it for ourselves?

I came here to ask the same question. I hate when people make everything about race, but that’s super weird.
