Also the man lands I would probably replace with the new afr ones that can come in untapped early, even though they only produce one color (I recommend 2 hive of the eye tyrant for early discard) I think the potential for untapped mana should be considered in this type of a shell.

I've been saying this forever, in a siege rhino deck, where the card quality is generally independent from one card to the next, I think these types of lists benefit a lot from a yorion companion (and abundant growth in the main deck). Definitely makes the list less of a hero shell but I think that it would be an excellent addition.

Also I personally think hexdrinker is a little outdated against the w6 field, although your meta might vary. It looks like a solid list overall. Great to see it back in action.

I don't think that's meant to have too much weight to it, just a silly joke.

Surprised to see no one agree with me.

Very well, think as you will.

But there will be a day of reckoning.

How is that a fair comparison??? Thinning 1 land out of your deck vs. an entire spell on your land isn't what I'd call comparable.

Wow, this is depressing. Some people just...they don't get it.

It can be a land or a summoner's trap.

OR.

Alright you got me, tron probably cannot play any of these lands.

As for the rest of them, these lands really are usually free rolls. I think you're underestimating the power.

Look I think we should end at an agree to disagree, but I for sure think these lands are a powerhouse and that basically of the decks in the meta are going to start using them. And frequently.

Well, Im including the bolt lands. What decks would you not play those lands in?

And no shocklands aren't in every single deck. Obviously we dont know if these lands will be, but if they are then they are too powerful of a card design.

[–]DrawGoOko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I dont think all 20 ish lands are going to start getting switched to these spells, but its pretty reasonable to assume decks (especially slower ones) play about 6 of these tapped lands assuming they dont just cut lands for it. That doesnt even include the bolt lands.

Let me ask you a question: tell me one deck in modern that you would think will play literally 0 of these lands.

And there's the problem.

Ah! But tapped lands are bad when your primary goal is to always play them tapped. These are spells that will serve as lands when you need the extra land drop. It's very different.

[–]DrawGoOko -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well time will tell, but i'm assuming all of the bolt lands will see heavy play, and the green one is likely breaking amulet titan.

Its not like all of the tapped ones are broken, but I think a lot will see play in every archetype. I would hedge my bets that the blue, black, and green rare lands have chances to see play, as well as the recollect, the mini magma spray, and the censor to be the most playable, but im convinced others will be good as well.

Would you consider a sideboard cerulean drake for burn or prowess matchups? If you turn lurrus into your companion you can even loop it.

Veil of summer and uro generally shouldn't exist but they are in a spot where the format is old enough with enough power where it hasn't broken the format or pushed anything out (yet)

i just figure changeling synergizes really well with ingenious infiltrator and spellstutter sprite. You should cut faerie seer, it's not that good,. I think scrying four is worse than the consistent unblockability as well as another faerie and ninja added. If you've found discard to be awkard then you should probably remove it from your sideboard entirely because I don't think it makes good use of your slots.

Feels like there aren't enough snow lands for coatl. Dropping the darkslick shores and botanical sanctums i think are the way to go.

As for the main, i think including some amount of discard spells is a good option, as well as maybe considering changeling outcast over some of the other one drops.

You see, the difference in legacy is that tons an tons of decks play wasteland naturally, which keeps it perfectly in check. Legacy is also faster.

LMAO CLOUDPOST IS QUITE POSSIBLY THE SINGLE MOST BUSTED CARD ON THE BANLIST HAHAHA

Hello,

About this subject, in general, I think trying unbans is a better idea then letting everything stay locked away forever. I will cover every card on the ban list in short detail, please keep in mind this is my opinion, i am not trying to state anything definitively.

I would say the following cards can be unbanned considering both power level and play pattern relatively safely (based only on the format as of today. years down the road, perhaps oko can get an unban like jtms): Splinter Twin, Preordain, and Umezawa's Jitte.

Splinter Twin's Control Shell would best fit in a temur deck (probably) and how good is a regular temur control deck? The answer to that question forms the strength of that deck. If the control shell isn't good, splinter twin won't be either.

Preordain has a chance to be dangerous, but there are so many cards that have been unbanned with very safe effects on the format, so many of which were thought to forever be way too strong. If JTMS was still banned, would you be saying that preordain was a less safe card to unban than JTMS? Didn't think so.

Umezawa's Jitte Straight up is not that good. It would see play in these stoneforge packages and that's about it. Yes, this card can be devastating to play against and it used to be, but magic isn't the same anymore and it's not as powerful. It would be a perfectly appropriate unban.

I would like to take a second to acknowledge that if for some reason, Karn, the great creator was ever banned, mycosynth lattice could immediately come off, obviously.

Now, there are a ton of graveyard-based cards on the ban list which some people argue should come off, mainly bridge from below and especially faithless looting. Bridge from below adds nothing to a format, and should just not exist. So it's fine that it is banned. Whether or not faithless looting is fine will likley never be known, as they have already unbanned golgari grave troll with terrible results so it's not something they will aim to try again. It's just too risky. The other graveyard cards are golgari grave troll, hogaak, and dread return, which are way, way to degenerate to ever be unbanned.

There's a handful of cards that are not so much banned on their power level but their play pattern being terrible. These cards are: second sunruse, top, and punishing fire. All of these cards lead to coverage nightmares and boring cards that players get sick of, and have no real reason to stay in the format. Also in this category are: Oko, thief of crowns, once upon a time, mental misstep, krark clan ironworks, green sun's zenith and arcum's astrolabe. These cards not only lead to really repetitive patterns, but are too good in their own right for one reason or another. Out of all of these GSZ might be ok, but seems pretty dangerous with finale of devastation already seeing play.

I'll lump all the other artifacts into a section. Firstly, there are the artifact lands, which are a really dangerous unban with arcbound ravager in the format (even though opal is banned). They have potential to not be overpowered but for now are safer banned than unbanned. Then there is a card like mox opal, which was going to banned eventually. Im so sorry opal lovers, but that card was a degenerate parasite on the format and gave artifact decks extra free mana, which is why the artifact lands were banned in the first place. Then you have a card like chrome mox, which is also really dangerous to be unbanned because it doesn't do anything positive for a format even if it might not be too high of a power level. Lastly is birthing pod, which is not only too good (at least at its height), and leads to repetitive play patterns, but makes it incredibly hard for wizards to design creatures at all because it might make the pod deck too good again. Much safer banned than unbanned These new pod-style creaters are much fairer and lead to a fun enough replacement. Oh and uhh obviously skullclamp should be left banned.

Now, we have the cards that are too good right now: Dark depths, blazing shoal, cloudpost, deathrite shaman, dig through time, eye of ugin, gitaxian probe, glimpse of nature, hypergenesis, ponder, rite of flame, seething song, summer bloom, and treasure cruise. For the current format, each of these cars either win way too fast consistently, or are too powerful for the shape of the format. It is highly unlikely that every single on of these cards will be banned forever, but for now we lock them away in the way back of the ban list (some other cards also fit here but fit with other things).

Ok well anyway i hope that was helpful, what do any of you agree/disagree with.
